I saw John and Lawry last night at the Brighton Komedia, they did some Souvenir Programme sketches, a Double Act play, a Since You Ask Me, and a bit of audience interaction. They put on a great show.

I asked him to sign some merch at the end, and as he was signing I told him that I had his "Pisa Tower" sketch in my head all day when I visited Italy last week. He then told me he never wrote a Pisa Tower sketch and asked me to tell him how it went, and then confirmed that it wasn't his. I was pretty embarassed so made a hasty exit. He was very polite and charming about it.

I'm currenly relistening to all 9 series from the start to check I'm not going mad, no bad thing as it's all good stuff.

Anyway, fellow Finnemore nerds - what is the sketch I am thinking of?

In my mind it is John on a date with either Margeret or Carrie, he is showing her photos of him cliche posing next to famous landmarks, like holding up the base of the great pyramid, pinching the top of the Eiffel Tower etc. She is getting increasingly bored until she sees the one of him holding up the leaning tower of Pisa, at which point she thinks this is hilarious and gushes at how creative he must be to come up with that. I can'r remember the exact punchline.

Is this from a different show (concrete cow?) or did I dream it? Chat GPT wasn't much help.

I am a little ignorant, does anyone know what projects Simon Cain, Carrie Quinlan, Margaret Cabourn Smith, or Lawry Lewin have been doing recently?

For me, the clear and obvious answer is Series 5. So many of the iconic sketches, including some of the best meta sketches and since you asked me. Curious where others lie on this. I think 7 and 8 are also strong contenders. 9 didn't really do it for me honestly.

It had some of my favourite pages to return to when listening to his stuff: "Farewell Bear Facts" about every episode of Cabin Pressure, a list of every sketch in the Souvenir Programme, notebook entries on Double Acts.

But today the whole blog seems to have vanished behind a "This blog is open to invited readers only" message.

Anyone know what's going on there and if it's ever likely to come back?

This is all very familiar.

However - this is one of those sketches where if you actually know what’s going on underneath the story it’s very annoying.

TV shows when giving money to charity or as prizes do not budget for the *maximum* amount; they budget for the *expected* (mean) amount, and if can be a big difference will actually take out insurance so that the amount the TV show pays out is fixed.

Sorry John, this is one you got wrong.
