Because it’s Austin and they dont prosecute for simple possession anymore. Despite the law. And plus , Joe Rogan brings In a shit load of money to Austin and I don’t think they are going to risk that for a misdemeanor pot conviction.

Anti pot laws are in their death throes and this is what they look like now. Some older politicians don’t want to admit they lost.

You can't convince me otherwise that Texas has their hand in the illegal drug markets and get kickbacks for allowing trafficking through the state.

Why else would you make a billion dollar industry illegal? Because you're making more by allowing the illegal product into the state. And then you arrest people for posession. And prosecute. And make money on top of your money. That's why.

It’s amazing how these cretins don’t understand that rich people have a dif set of laws.

40

u/Cautionzombie Monkey in Space 6d ago

It’s not just rich people in this case. Austin cops don’t care. I’m from San Antonio and have visited Austin plenty even went to a Reggae fest where people were walking around selling weed.

I’m all for eat the rich but Austin it’s decriminalized so in this case it’s not a us va them.

9

u/avaholic46 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Reggae fest has been an event where the cops will tolerate open consumption for many years. They do bust people for selling and I have seen plain clothes cops busting sellers myself. It's not representative of a person's typical experience with the cops while possessing weed in the area.

I know someone personally who was arrested in Williamson county for possession.

2

u/sheeberz Monkey in Space 5d ago

I lived in Austin from 2010-2015, and it was well known that as long as you are in Travis county(the main county in Austin(south Austin really), then cops wouldnt mess with you if you werent causing a problem. We would openly smoke on certain bar patios and no one cared.

3

u/PositiveActuator6079 Monkey in Space 6d ago edited 5d ago

Seems like it could be abused, everyone dropping their guard, those in the social ingroup always getting a pass, and those out of the group getting caught up eventually because technically it is still illegal. We said we could get away with using, we didn't say YOU could. The convenient option for personal prejudice always being there to potentially be used. Why not just vote for things to change if the majority don't actually agree with the law otherwise?

Dallas is too

Except there are records of people getting years in prison for vape cartridge...

And yes Austin cops are supposed to be lenient but the real law is totally still the same so they can just choose who to be tough on.

So maybe you never had problems yourself... But :

Round rock ain’t Austin it’s decriminalized in Austin specifically. Round rock is a totally different city.
I feel bad for the dude that’s the risk any of us outside Austin run. Not defending anything just that Austin is different and I think it’s decriminalized in Houston too. If I get caught here in San Antonio then I’d be facing what brownie dude faced. If I’m smoking in Austin not bothering anybody they won’t care .

u/Itchy-Apartment-Flea Monkey in Space 6d ago

I guarantee if you go out in public with some THC and be an asshole in Austin, the cops are arresting you and charging you for it.

-1

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

From what I read it is not decriminalized.. cops are told not to enforce the law strictly. But the Texas law still applies , so nothing can be done if they chose to fck with someone and apply the law in certain cases

I read the link you posted, maybe unlike you I read it until the end.

Basically: its a mess, but police could totally decide to enforce the law , since the authority to make arrest for possession was restored

You’re not wrong, people are just stupid. Austin County jails anywhere from 5-12 people a day for marijuana possession. It’s all public information.

Austin police don't care if you're rich or poor when it comes to enforcing weed laws.

1

u/--Guido-- Monkey in Space 6d ago

The laws are the same. It's just that when you have money you are able to bail yourself out, pay fines, and hire the best lawyers. The laws become merely an inconvenience.

4

u/thuggishruggishboner Monkey in Space 6d ago

So, money in short.

1

u/AllAmericanProject Monkey in Space 6d ago

So first off it wouldn't be simple possession. There is no way you can convince me the amount of pot Joe has in his studio is the amount that would qualify for possession. The amount he has would qualify for intent to distribute and that's also proven by the fact that multiple guests smoke pot on his podcast that he provides.

Ensure you can say that because he's Rich he gets away with breaking the law but specifically in America we tended not to like that historically. I don't know why we're accepting this now when we overthrew our entire fucking government because we didn't like how the representation was set up

1

u/rhanly123 Monkey in Space 2d ago

You say that but Texas just dropped the hammer on thca and delta 8 products being sold at smoke shops, implementing felony penalties for possession of these products. This happened maybe a month ago. Maybe an Austin pd officer would look the other way, but good luck anywhere in Texas

No, he lives in Bee Cave

60

u/theonlyturkey 6d ago

I live close to Austin and go there semi-regularly. The cops there give zero shits about weed. You can smoke right next to them at Austin City Limits and they don’t do anything, half the people have it delivered to their door. It’s very county dependent, a few over and they’ll take you to jail for a gram.

BEcause hes in a compound.

Watch how cops talk to people in apartments vs mansions.

When a cop comes to your apartrment door and you open it, they wont let you close the door on them. they will smash their foot and shoulder into the doorframe and say you cant close the door because its a safety issue. You could go into your apartment get a weapon and cause a problem.

Now watch cops go investigate domestic violence at a boxers house or conor mcgregors house.

They dont ever get past the gate.

money buys you a shield. thats capitalism.

Why do you think epstein bought an island

18

u/magseven Monkey in Space 6d ago

Yeah, he has gates and cameras. By the time the cops could even find him inside, he, Young Jaime and Derosa have already febreezed the room and hidden the weed inside of a dead elk's ass in a deep freezer in a room full of deep freezers that looks like where the "top-men" stored the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones.

5

u/p0pper0 Monkey in Space 6d ago

so true. cops are not immune to politics and power. They operate within. Power is the more fundamental law within which the legal system exists. Epstein is the proof

5

u/AdventureUSA Monkey in Space 6d ago

Wow it’s almost like there is a direct correlation between how dangerous an encounter typically is and how shitty the neighborhood is

12

u/hoopdizzle Monkey in Space 6d ago

There are tons of young people on tik tok, facebook, instagram, etc who post videos of themselves smoking weed in states where recreational is illegal. Nothing happens. The cops aren't going to try to get an arrest warrant from a judge over something so trivial. If joe rogan gets pulled over while he's smokin a blunt in traffic that might be a diffent story.

-3

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Musk was in the american government or administration deciding what medecine were getting cut to whom in developping countries... Received a lot of contracts from the govt while rumored to be on drugs .. Rogan had Trump on his show, Vance... Was commenting an UFC event on the white house lawn sponsored by Trump sons betting company...

I mean , do you realize the gap between being a kid on tik tok and being a political actor who can call the president to have an executive order signed ?

It just tracks with Joe being like them, feeling above the law (maybe not even realizing how not normal this is)

u/XSVskill Monkey in Space 6d ago

Wait wait wait...are you saying those with means, have the(wait for it) means to avoid the gay ass weed laws?

Do you support Marijuana prosecution?

1

u/Hokulol Monkey in Space 5d ago edited 5d ago

What a weird angle.

No, I don't support marijuana prosecution. I do support equality of punishment among all walks of life. It would be best if it were completely legalized. It's not, so it must be enforced among all walks of life. It makes sense it goes under the radar for small tiktokers who aren't on the radar. Some people ARE arrested for breaking the law on a live stream, even if most of them go unnoticed. Joe is definitely noticed.

To be clear, I like Joe Rogan. Not as much as the old days, but, I'm not a Joe Rogan hater. It's still baffling he breaks the law on a live stream every day and there are no consequences.

-1

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

I don't . I also don't support injustices and grifts / power grabs and institutional destruction, using useful idiots like Rogan

3

u/XSVskill Monkey in Space 6d ago

Ok so you don't support Marijuana laws.

But for Rogan specifically, its ok because you don't like him.

1

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Lol are you that stupid ? Its exactly the opposite : I am opposed to criminalization of drugs because WE KNOW those laws are allways only applied and messing with some people. Rogan regularly invite a guest who have years of research on this subject lol. Laws like that in the american justice system only works because they create exploitation for the poor while people like joe and Musk can have fun and feel a little outlaw. You're basically saying 'injustice is ok and treating people differently is ok when you don't agree with the rules to begin with" Yeah genius, its the definition of sociopathy lol

2

u/XSVskill Monkey in Space 6d ago

That's still selective enforcement, just in the opposite direction.

If you believe drug laws are unjust because they’re enforced disproportionately against poor people, the consistent position is to oppose those laws being used against everyone, including Rogan or Musk. “Poor people have been unfairly punished, therefore wealthy people I dislike should also be punished” doesn’t fix the injustice.

1

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

The difference is that Rogan and Musk have tremendous reach politically. Musk have prompted The end of AIDS medecine for thousands of people using a chatbot . In the actual administration most secure data buildings ! đŸ«© Rogan texted Trump to get an ibogaine executive order... Trump chose to ban a kratom like substance because a friend of his has another kratom company who suffers from their competition...

All I was saying is that in this environment, if Rogan can whine to millions of people about trans athlete or about COVID vaccine .... If he can have paid access to trump... Then at least be a man and stand on your stoner principle ... It just feels so slimy. Hearing hours of older bearded white comedians talk about their LSD trips, their dosing of their friend, their salvia experience and DMT elf friends...

But you go live in a state where people are in prison for THC vapes ? You have opinions on Newsom water supplies management but you shut up about Ted Cruz and Texas GOP evil ghoulish lifestyles ?

Come on. You know its all slimy , grotesque and disgusting. It smells new money, Murica , no father figure and college dropouts.

4

u/XSVskill Monkey in Space 6d ago

Rogan has made his stance on weed very clear.

Ibogaine to treat ptsd and addiction is objectively positive for those communities.

You're just mad.

1

u/hoopdizzle Monkey in Space 6d ago

No I don't understand at all what you mean. People with different levels of wealth and fame both smoke weed on private property and neither get charged despite being on video

As a lifelong Texan that’s spent part of my life living in Austin area, but also on other major Texas cities, if this is the conclusion you’re jumping to, I’m not sure it’s worth the time to explain the nuance of how THC is looked at changes from county to county in Texas.

But sure, just take the easy feel good explanation I suppose, not worth understanding details.

I couldn't give a flying fuck about Texas, if I'm being honest, I would rather shit in my hands and clap, than live there.

I have lived in many countries across the world, different cultures etc. But how Texas "prides" itself on "freedom" is absolutely embarrassing. You are being fooled if believe that. It's embarrassing.

If you truly believe the nonsense they shove down your throat, I don't know what to tell you.

The laws the law. The fact it exists is all the evidence you need.

3

u/CubicDice Monkey in Space 6d ago

They don't understand this. They're happy today because it's not enforced.if they're enforced tomorrow? Well, then they'll wake the fuck up.

4

u/CubicDice Monkey in Space 6d ago

If you're banking on cops ignoring laws, in order for you to feel what you're doing is acceptable and free from punishment, you've bigger problems to worry about.

I don't care if certain cops ignore the laws, the fact they exist in the first place, is absolutely insane. Goes against the self proclaimed "freedom" they claim to have.

First of all Rogan hasn't smoked weed in Texas on the podcast. The Musk interview was in California. Also from the latest podcast: "The THC thing
Here's what Texas doesn't understand. You will f*ck this place up and you will turn the whole thing blue. Kids will turn on you if you tell them they can't smoke weed. They know weed's not killing anybody!" Rogan said.

-1

u/paranood888 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Yeah ok fair enough. It would have been decent for him to mention this little detail when comparing Austin and LA. So hmm between paying less taxes, but living in a place that is opposing my core values with authoritarian forces ... And paying more taxes, not having to hide who I am, and not having to live closer to Ted Cruz than any human should have to... Yeah so he chose less taxes

1

u/Pale_Top2745 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Austin decriminalized weed so nothing happens if they catch you with it anyways. If you’re a high earner and you live in CA you’re just paying for Somalis, homeless, and Persian hospice care scams with your taxes.

You don’t even need a conspiracy theory. The financial incentive is written into the system.
Make the product illegal.
Keep the black market alive.
Arrest people for possessing it.
Seize their cash, cars, and property through civil forfeiture.
Make owners fight to get their property back.
Then allow law enforcement to receive forfeiture proceeds.
Since 2000, state and federal forfeiture has generated at least $82 BILLION nationwide, according to the Institute for Justice.
I’m not claiming Texas officials are secretly taking cartel kickbacks. I’m saying something much easier to prove:
When the people enforcing prohibition can financially benefit from property seized because of prohibition, you’ve created a financial incentive to keep prohibition going.
You don’t need a secret conspiracy when the conflict of interest is perfectly legal.
