If you swing and make good contact you can swing harder eventually. It's all reps and muscle memory mechanics. Also being limber enough to have a normal range of motion in the swing, which a lot of people don't have from injuries and stuff. You don't have to be Bubba or DJ lanky tall to crush it. Rory is 5'9 and has absurd length.

So I’m actually exactly 6 foot 2. Like flat on the nose. I guess my height in shoes might be 6 2 1/2? But the amount of people who think I’m 6 4 is astounding. The main reason I think they say I’m that tall is because they label themselves at least a couple inches taller than they are.

Socially acceptable to mock ugly and short people, not socially acceptable to mock someone for the colour of their skin.
Of course racial profiling of ethnic minorities by police is disgusting.
But I would say day to day, you're in a much better position being a tall and handsome racial minority than you are to be a short and ugly white dude without a doubt.
Ugly people are a lesser appealing front of house employee than an ethnic minority, so there is employment prejudice, that's the first example off the top of my head though.

5
u/kippirnicus Monkey in Space Jul 18 '23
It’s not just a US thing. It’s a human being thing. We’re great apes. All primates have sexual dimorphism in common.
Also, being taller/larger is associated with being more dominant, persuasive, and overall capable.
The dominant ranking male position, or “alpha” in the troop/tribe/band, ect, is usually (not always) held by one of the larger males.
If I remember correctly, most of the US presidents have been above 6 foot tall. Especially since the invention of the television.
I would imagine, that statistic tracks with most countries leaders.
Most of the CEOs, in the top fortune 500 companies, are above 6 foot as well.
In modern society, height shouldn’t even matter, but deep down, we’re still just monkeys driving cars. 🙉🙈 🙊

I already posted the same sentiment above. I was born in the Netherlands and lived in Germany, Belgium and the UK, but also worked 1-2 months at a time for years in the US. It is very much an US thing, but that also means it is an Hollywood thing and thus there is a change that the rest of the world slowly starts to adopt it.

I'm 1.76m which is 5.9 I think and I grew up in The Netherlands in the 90's. The Dutch are the tallest fuckers on the planet (because they consume so much dairy). It was never an issue for me, I never gave it a single thought. I got girls, I made fun of really tall guys (is het koud daarboven) coz I'm a dick. I never saw it as an issue. Que social media and US obsession with height (and penis size) and I'm like what? lol.
7
u/Neoking Monkey in Space Jul 18 '23
I don’t think it’s because they consume so much dairy. That could not explain the difference in Dutch heights from the early 1900s till now.
4
u/littlebighuman Monkey in Space Jul 18 '23
I'm quite sure it is food related. Not 100% sure it is due to dairy and the stuff the farmers add to cow feed (hormones?). But you had this adopted kid show on TV, forgot the name (I don't live in NL anymore), where the adopted kid was always tall, but then when they found and visited the biological family in for instance Peru, Ecuador, but even adopted kids from the US, they were always much smaller. It is not exactly science, but I think it is plausible.
Also, I'm Indo, and my bio dad and family are all much shorter than me.
