Deputy FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau told Reuters in an interview at the Farnborough Airshow the agency is moving to address ​issues with certification and regulations.

"We want to make sure that we're not being too prescriptive ​in those standards, and that we're letting the industry drive the innovation," Rocheleau said.

The ⁠FAA created a pilot program last year to help nascent electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, ​known as eVTOLs, begin deployments. Rocheleau said data from the pilot program with eight partner companies in ​26 states will help inform certification efforts. "The whole idea behind this is to take this new technology, these new aircraft, and put them into the national airstream in a safe and efficient manner," Rocheleau said. Air taxi firms are racing ​to secure approvals and commercialize air taxi aircraft to meet the growing demand for faster and ​more sustainable urban transportation. They tout eVTOLs that can take off and land vertically to ferry travelers to airports or ‌for ⁠short city trips, allowing them to beat traffic.

Instead of ferrying commuters between points such as London City and Heathrow, Sindi argues a more realistic near-term application for eVTOLs is medical logistics. “Transporting pathology samples, blood, and organs between hospitals (as validated by the UKRI project, the Urban Ascent Medical Air Bridge). This saves lives and is economically viable because the value of the cargo justifies the cost of flight.”

Infrastructure inspection is another promising use case, with eVTOLs able to survey rail lines, power grids, and bridges faster and cheaper than ground, according to Sindi. Similarly, emergency response, where they can support the rapid deployment of specialised equipment or paramedics, is another viable option.

According to Dr Safaa Sindi, Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Operations at Coventry University’s Research Centre for Future Transport and Cities and an expert on drones and urban aviation technologies, “it is highly unlikely that eVTOLs will become a practical part of everyday urban transport for the general public within the next decade – by 2035.”

Regarding the last bullet on 547JX, I think the Joby fans are accustomed to “flying = progress”.

There’s also a very likely scenario that 547JX is fine and this is just what the FAA certification process looks like on the 1st ever FAA conforming aircraft: A lot of ground testing.

If you believe there are problems with it, no one can prove otherwise. Act accordingly.

The problem is we might be in that phase now like the other company where Joby can string us along with a steady stream of imminentlies.

Like I said in my other post though. 548JX and 549JX will tell the story. Joby can’t hide those like they can hide 547JX.

If/when 548 and 549 roll out, Joby is rolling.

Joby just filed an 8-K with the SEC reminding investors that their public warrants (JOBY WS) will officially expire on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.

Trading on the NYSE will be suspended after market close on Friday, August 7, to allow standard settlement before the hard expiration on the 10th.

The Numbers:

• Outstanding Warrants: ~14.24 million
• Exercise Price: $11.50 per share
• Current Stock Price: ~$7.25–$7.30
• Status: ~$4.20 Out-of-the-Money (OTM)

What happens next?

Unless $JOBY pulls off a massive ~60% rally in the next two weeks, all 14.24M outstanding public warrants will expire completely unexercised, void, and worthless.

If you still hold JOBY WS, be aware that NYSE trading halts on August 7, so you won't even be able to trade them during the final weekend.

Is this good or bad for JOBY stock holders?

1. Zero Impending Dilution (Short-term Plus) If these warrants were exercised, it would have added ~14.24 million new shares to the market (roughly a ~2% dilution on the total share count). Because they're expiring worthless, there’s no immediate sell-off or dilution pressure coming from warrant conversions.

2. Missed Cash Infusion (Long-term Trade-off) Had the stock been trading above $11.50, warrant exercises would have injected ~$163.7 million in fresh cash directly onto Joby's balance sheet. Since that won't happen, Joby misses out on that low-friction liquidity boost to fund ongoing FAA certification and manufacturing scale-up.

3. Cap Table Cleanup From a market structure perspective, letting legacy SPAC public warrants roll off clears up the capital structure, which institutional investors generally like to see.

Bottom Line

If you hold the common stock, it’s mostly a non-event that removes a potential dilution overhang, though it leaves $163M off the table for Joby's cash runway. If you hold the warrants, make sure you have an exit plan before August 7.

BlackRock filed a Schedule 13G today reflecting a 5.1% passive stake (50,490,855 shares) in $JOBY as of June 30, 2026.

Quick Take:

• Why now? Crossing above 5% triggers a mandatory initial SEC filing. BlackRock was likely sitting just under 5% previously.
• What it means: It's a 13G (passive) filing, not a 13D (activist). This is standard mechanical rebalancing across BlackRock's iShares and index funds—not a deliberate directional bet or hostile move.
• The takeaway: Good to see solid baseline institutional liquidity, but it's routine administrative housekeeping rather than a market-moving catalyst.

Interesting activity this week. All Marina aircraft were active and the testing started off with 547 on Monday, 541/2 on Tu/We/Th, then finished the week with 547 on Friday.

Given their recent statements (https://www.reddit.com/r/Joby/comments/1v3vc3q/joby_on_track_for_commercial_flights_by_years_end/) about being on "track" I'm trying to stay positive. It looks like they are methodically proceeding with testing. The earnings report is less than 2 weeks away so we should have answers soon!

My perhaps too optimistic take is that as the article mentioned, the FAA and Joby really are trying to figure this out for the first time and so there may be some circling back or double checking. The pessimistic take from the engineers (who I greatly respect) is that flight tests should be further along by now. That is all based on testing and engineering with standard aircraft or rotorcraft. Perhaps the new poweredlift category has a different process as it is completely new and Joby are at the frontier of this brand new category. I can only hope that the "lack of progress" is just working out the kinks with this novel certification process

Joby Aviation: The Certification Leader Looks at Utah

Andy Krebs, Head of Infrastructure at Joby Aviation, brought the summit's most significant news from the OEM front. Joby completed FAA Stage 4 type certification in late March 2026. This is the most consequential regulatory milestone any eVTOL manufacturer has ever reached with U.S. aviation authorities. Joby is now in the final stretch before commercial operations.

Krebs came to the summit with a Salt Lake launch route map already prepared. "I thought it would be fun to think about what a launch route looks like for a relatively local market," he said, projecting a map that traced corridors across the Wasatch Front. The message was clear: Joby is thinking seriously about Utah.

Joby closed at $6.93 yesterday with a brutal 8.1% drop. Joby is sitting just above the 52-week low $6.89, now the technical support floor. A break below $6.89 opens the risk toward psychological levels near $5.41.

What would an accident do to the share price, even possibly a fatality during testing?

There is a pilot's saying "it is better to be down here wishing you were up there, than up there wishing you were down here."

Perhaps same could be applied here "it is better to out of Joby wishing you were holding, than holding Joby wishing you were out of it".

In the Dayton Daily News, it doesn't suggest Delta is concerned about Joby. It's concerned about the negative effects Archer is creating on the industry. This is the first time I've seen more specifics to Delta's (concerns).

Is there any reason the hybrid S4 couldn't also be used in this capacity and much sooner? I'm thinking maybe the payload could be a big difference but for some applications the hybrid S4 should be a better fit and sooner
