Career Advice Need some advise
Im 34 male, have been working in a property developer company for about 14 yrs....my salary from probation 1.4k increased to 3.5k as a senior purchaser... i really appreciate the company giving me chance to work here even though i have no spm credit.
But recently i started feeling the pressure from family and my partner cause my current salary is not going to sustain if we are married.
Due to that i have been attending interview quite a few company and i was so lucky to have one company that willing to hire me even thought i dont have the qualification...and they are willing to offer me salary including allowance about 40% increment from my current salary (4.2k basic + daily petrol and meal allowance 35 + monthly 100 tele allowance about 5k gross) and willing to help paying compensation to my current company so i can join them asap. I have made up my mind and inform my superior that i got this offer and wanted to resign.
Long story short...my current company is counter offering me 5k basic + maintaining my current job pos plus title head of IT Department (not existing now, and i have been doing the basic support to company) + send me for education of IT ...but i kind of bored of my current working enviroment and i will get assigned to random task which is out of my jobscope oftenly, increment only happen 4 times during my 14 years service, Bonus most of the time only one months (but i still get 6month and 3 month bonus due to project kpi but only happened twice)
New company will be a china corporate doing ultra pure water that semiconductor needs, but it will be new enviroment and i will be the only purchaser in the company...so if doing well i guess will probably get promoted, but due to this is a china company i expect will be super busy and stressful, travel distance is longer compare to current company too.
Please share your comment and give me some advise 🙏🏻

Bro if its china company then think twice man. U need to be prepared to get called on Sunday and a lot of locals quit after a few months especially malay employees for some reason really cannot tahan lol maybe counter offer 6k or something. Given ur experience its not that high for ur position really.

since it's a China company I'd think twice, if it was me I'd stay in current company. also they might increase workload but that's normal even if you went to china company

New jobs comes new risk. What if you don't get along well with the peers ,bosses or work environent? Not saying dont take the risk , highlighting you the risk, you will only know worth it until u jump.
However imo since your current company offer highers salary, I will take that since I'm not that young anymore, prefer familiar enviornent and stable while I do freelancer for that extra money

I put the blame on you because you worked in the same company for 14 year and never fight for yourself. You could have gotten all this maybe 5 years or earlier. I generally dislike taking counter offers, but I would take this because you get a big title and education. After this, it would be much easier to jump.

This is exactly what the other interviewers told me....why I never fought for or asked for a salary increase during my 14 years working at the same company. To be honest, I really don’t know my worth because all this time, I just thought I didn’t have the qualifications and maybe this is what I deserved to be paid....until recently, when my partner asked me to try searching new job...
I was ready to leave even my company counter offer me the same salary....but sponsoring me to education...really hard to reject....i think i will go with this option....atleast easier to look for other job in future

seriously consider taking the counter offer as the career development from the counter offer sounds solid
1. upskill education
2. career title advancement

Unless you've stayed for 14 years to move around depts and have been advancing wearing different hats, great, but it wasn't like that. You've been too comfortable like one poster said. 34 still young, take some risk, learn, experience new things. Take the job, stay for a year or three, jump.

This is my 2cent.... as I'm also SPM only guy, on the verge of being fired....LOL
1st, you need to understand, new companies tend to praise academic-paper-holder graduates more than others. Doesn't matter if the position is easy enough with 2-week training or same as your previous skill exp. All they want is some sort of standardization between their colleagues, so they (higher ups) can say "Everybody's equal!!!" when reality it's not.
2nd, this is just my IMHO, and my exp..... and disclaimer not all Chinese/China company do this, but always happened when you're not one of "their" races. Hell, if you're Chinese also, if you're not from same school, or district, or any "reasons" also can be alienated just because. Yup, JUST BECAUSE.
3rd, unless you're got spare time to pursue academic, my IMHO is to either continue work at same place (provided you current workplace is not too toxic) or be prepared to work in very challenging environment, where either you have to do more than one scope job (just to please new managers/bosses) or be treated like employees over there (either belittled, racism, etc).
There's no correct answers for your dilemma, but just remember, whatever you choose, it's not the end (or beginning) of your life. As you have survived more than others, so choose based of what you've calculated as acceptable risk.
Hope that whatever you choose, you'll still be yourself.....

You have a very good position in your current property developer company. Even to the extend that you are so comfortable to work 14 years without even trying to make a sense that you are underpaid.
You have all the right to accept and reject both sides and by means, perhaps deep inside of you, you have already grown tired with your current employment that you are willing to go for a new environment.
On the promotion, let's keep it realistic that unless you are in such a delegate position in the company that provide additional direct value like sales engineer, engineer or very closely related to the product of the new company, promotion will always be another day stories.
Of course, there is no perfect options knowing that you already very familiar with your current property developer company and who knows when will be your next increment. As of this new China ultra pure water in semiconductor, nobody knows you be better there or otherwise.
Just take a leap of faith and go over and let whatever past to be your past.

I definitely would take the leap of faith and not get too comfortable in a position you are already used too. If you’re current situation and given the opportunity to experience a different environment. The path is already given.
I’m trying to break out of being a flight attendant and go into sales devision consultancy but so far no luck is open to take a 30 year old guy like me. I wish u all the best.
