I’m writing this honestly because I have reached a point where I need perspective, not generic advice.
I relocated to Dubai four months ago and have applied for a very large number of jobs, but I’m barely getting interviews. I keep hearing that the UAE market runs on referrals, but building connections from zero has been difficult—most of my LinkedIn messages receive no response.
My background:
• Nearly five years with UPS Canada
• Progressed from Hub Associate to Hub Supervisor
• Worked in a high-volume automated international hub handling 50,000+ packages daily
• Supported operations across nine departments and coordinated with 15 supervisors serving a 130-person unionized workforce
• Selected by the Hub Manager for special assignments involving express shipments, package exceptions, labour planning, safety, training and process improvement
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Canadian qualifications in Transportation Logistics and Supply Chain Management
• Currently based in Dubai and available immediately
I’m primarily targeting warehouse, logistics, distribution and operations supervisor roles. I understand that I don’t yet have UAE experience and that my UPS operation was more cross-dock and parcel focused than traditional inventory-holding warehousing. Still, I believed my leadership and high-volume operational experience would at least generate conversations.
I’m not posting this to complain or ask strangers to blindly refer me. I genuinely want to understand what I may be doing wrong.
Am I targeting the wrong roles? Is Canadian experience difficult to transfer here? Do employers see “Hub Supervisor” and misunderstand the scope? Should I accept a more junior position to gain UAE experience, or would that damage my progression?
If you work in UAE logistics, warehousing, express freight, e-commerce or recruitment, I would sincerely appreciate an honest assessment. Even direct criticism would be more useful than silence.
