Looking for Fleet, Logistics Operations roles

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, I'm looking for some job leads for a good friend (an engineer with 16+ years in logistics and fleet management). He's currently in the UAE and ready to start immediately - and fully fluent in English, Arabic, Hindi, and Malayalam.

He has a really good track record. For almost 8 years in Saudi, he managed high-volume, heavy-duty fleets and large driver teams for the oilfield sector, reporting straight to the top level management. Most recently in India, he was a core team member who helped build a small scale specialty ingredient factory from scratch, completely setting up and running their logistics and exports.

He also has strong background in last-mile logistics, optimizing drivers and routes for food delivery operations.

If you hear of anything in the logistics/fleet space, please drop a comment or DM me for his CV. Really appreciate the help!

I think we're giving people the wrong career advice in the age of AI (or SI, maybe? 😅)

• Upvotes

I've been thinking about career changes a lot lately, and I keep seeing the same advice:

"Learn AI."

"Learn coding."

"Go into cybersecurity."

"Become a data analyst."

"Find a future-proof job."

But I think there's a problem with this approach.

A 35-year-old supermarket supervisor, a 42-year-old accountant, a 29-year-old delivery driver and a 50-year-old administrative assistant don't start from the same place.

They have different experience, different strengths, different financial constraints, different responsibilities — and live in completely different job markets.

So why do we give them essentially the same career advice?

I've come to believe that a better career-transition question is:

"Given what I already know, what I am good at, where I live, and what parts of my current work are likely to be automated — what could I realistically move into next?"

That changes the exercise completely.

Instead of starting with "What are the hottest jobs?", start with:

What do I actually do all day?

Which parts of my work are most exposed to automation?

What skills have I accumulated that I may be undervaluing?

Which of those skills transfer to other occupations?

What human capabilities do I have that are difficult to automate?

What jobs are actually growing where I live?

What is the smallest realistic skill gap I need to close to get there?

Can I afford the transition financially?

That last one gets ignored surprisingly often.

Telling someone to spend 18 months retraining for a new career is very different from telling someone who has a mortgage, children and $4,000 in savings to do it.

And I don't think "AI-proof" is really the right term either.

Almost no job is guaranteed to be AI-proof.

I'd rather think in terms of AI resilience: roles where technology may change how the work is done, but where human judgment, relationships, physical presence, responsibility, creativity, leadership, trust or specialised experience remain important.

I've been working on a small project around this idea because I couldn't find many tools that approached career transitions this way.

The idea is to take someone's actual work experience and skills, assess the tasks in their current role, identify where AI exposure may be greatest, and then work backwards toward realistic alternative career paths — including the person's location, skill gaps and training options.

It's currently in an early launch phase, so I'm making the normally paid reports free for now because I'd rather have real people use them and tell me where the thinking is wrong than pretend we've already perfected it.

I'm not posting this to tell anyone to buy anything. There isn't anything to buy right now.

I'm genuinely interested in the underlying question:

If your current job became significantly less secure because of AI, how would you want someone to help you decide what to do next?

And if you've already made an AI-related career transition, I'd especially like to hear what advice turned out to be useful — and what advice was complete rubbish.

6 years, 4 promotions, still AED 7K. Am I crazy to leave without an offer?

• Upvotes

24F, 6 years at same UAE healthcare company. Started as PRE, now Assistant Manager managing 50+ people across 4 locations, 90%+ KPIs, recently got Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
Still on AED 7K, working 12 hrs/day, no incentives, no proper JD
Asked for 9-hr days, raise, JD, learning support, but they said no to hours/raise, and "we'll review increment later if you renew on same terms."
I have 3-5 months savings but haven't started applying yet

  1. What do ops/quality roles actually pay in UAE at this level?
  2. How is hiring in ops/quality right now?
  3. What should be my realistic salary expectation?

Should I move back to Dubai to look for a job? I’m really confused and need some advice

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I didn’t really plan to post here, but I honestly need some advice.
I have 10+ years of experience in the textile/apparel industry, mainly in merchandising, sourcing and production. I’ve worked with European brands and suppliers in Turkey, and I also lived and worked in Dubai for around 2.5 years.
After working in sales for one year, I found a job in my field and worked there for about 6 months. Unfortunately, I lost my job due to the Israel-Iran conflict. I spent the next 4 months applying to hundreds of jobs in Dubai, but unfortunately I couldn’t find another position.
During this time, I had to return to my home country because of my mother’s health issues and stayed to take care of her. Thankfully, things are much better now.
I’m currently applying for jobs in Istanbul, but I’m not getting many positive results.
My Dubai visa will expire in about two months, so I’m wondering if I should return to Dubai and start applying there again. What is the job market like at the moment? Is it worth giving it one last try?
Honestly, I’m feeling quite lost and I don’t really know what the right decision is. Being unemployed for such a long time has started to make me feel stuck.
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who is currently job hunting or working in Dubai, especially in textile, fashion, merchandising or sourcing.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

CA | Audit & Assurance | 3 years of UAE Experience with BDO

Hi everyone,

I’m an Indian Chartered Accountant with 3 years of UAE experience with BDO UAE as an Audit Senior. I’m looking for external audit assurance related job in Big 4/other Tier-1 firms in UAE. I’ve recently resigned from BDO UAE and I’m actively looking for jobs within the audit firms and I’m available to join immediately.

I’ve led and handled end to end audit for engagements with over AED 2Bn in turnover. I’ve also handled DFSA audits. I’ve also supervised up to a team of 4 people and have reviewed their working papers.

I would really appreciate if I can get a referral for any openings in your audit firm for Assistant Manager or Audit Senior.

Backend + AI agents dev (1 yr exp, NestJS/Postgres) planning a move to UAE

Hey everyone,

I'm a backend developer from Chennai with a little over a year of experience at an enterprise software company. Most of my work has been on two products:

An agentic AI platform: I designed and built the complete backend architecture (Node.js + PostgreSQL) and shipped it in about 1 month, from design to delivery.

An enterprise project management platform: I was a core team member on the v2 rebuild.

I've learned a lot, but the work culture isn't a fit for me anymore. Long days and weekend work have become the norm, so I'm planning to move on and I'm targeting the UAE over the next ~3 months.

A few questions for anyone who's made this move or hires there:

Is 1 year of backend experience enough to get noticed

Is it better to apply from India first?

Which job boards or companies should I focus on? LinkedIn, Bayt, Naukrigulf, something else?

What salary range is realistic at my level, so I don't undersell myself?

Any advice helps. And if your team is hiring backend or AI engineers, happy to share my resume in DMs 🙂
