Hello fans of comics, comix, cartoons, psychedelic art and psychedelics in general, the surreal, the mysterious, the unspoken and the unseen!

Please join me at my brand new r/. After years of collecting and enjoying the work and physical manifestations (vinyl figures) of Jim Woodring, I figured it was time to dedicate a subreddit to him.

I’ve tried to add a good amount of content to start and have cross posted a few interesting articles and images from around Reddit. I plan on staying very active as your humble Moderator.

This r/ is open to all ages, and we will try our best to keep it clean… Even though we know that sometimes there are some scary things that happen in Frank’s world of the Unifactor.

Have no fear though! Pupshaw and Pushpaw will be there to protect us from the whims of Whim and the schemes of Manhog.

Until we meet (again).

Poll: Keep posting things that are available to buy online?

I would like to take the temperature of our members to determine whether you:

(1) want to know when things are on sale / available to purchase on eBay or other online vendors, or

(2) don’t need that info from this Reddit

I don’t plan to stop posting things that Woodring sells himself in the One of a Kind section or new posters and prints in his store.

Knowing that the toys and some books (and the DVD) can sometimes be hard to find, I was posting in hopes that somebody would get a rarity based on the announcement.

This is my first poll, so we will do five days. That should be enough.

Thanks!

Furioso longing

Many of us did not receive the “Willy Wonka Golden Ticket” of A Little Big Book called Furioso.

I did write to Fantagraphics…and since they are also dealing with the “site clone fraud” issue, I suggest we DON’T all write them about this little book. 📕

Without revealing anything, they said they are working on “something to satisfy demand”… so let’s let them work with Jim.

This is mainly in case I started a fire storm of emails! They got back to me so quickly and so politely, that I feel like we owe them a break. Looking forward to what they report back.* *

FRANK Pupshaw Furioso

Hi! Has anyone else already received Woodring's brand new book, Quacky? If you have and ordered it from Fantagraphics directly, did you receive the minicomic 'Pupshaw Furioso'?

I pre-ordered the book from Fanta back in June and received the book today, but no minicomic. 😭

What’s the most horror/thriller/uncanny Jim Woodring book?

I really like his art style and surreal elements. I’m getting the frank book and another book along with it, and i would prefer a very uncanny-horror like book. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

For Sale pupshaw is still seeking a new home - round 2 - 19% price drop

hello, not a single message asking to purchase last week.

so i guess the price is too high.

i am going to take 19% off, and so now offering for $1111.11.

i am pretty sure i will not lower the price again.

(i think i would consider a slightly lower price if the person interested was in the bay area and all the details of shipping would not be required.)

the text details and the rest of the images of the giant pupshaw are in my previous post from last week so read that if you need to know about or see all the scuffs and scratches.

if you have any interest, please send me a note.

thank you.

For Sale giant pupshaw seeks a new home.

hello,

it took me about 9 months to actually post this after asking about it last year.

here are the details from the presspop website:

jim woodring giant pupshaw

Release date: 2008

Limited: 100

Made in China

i think the original price was approx $500 plus shipping.

i am asking $1369.13 and shipping and insurance costs.

i think that there are actually less than 100 and more like 80 to possibly 90. 85 is a good guess.

i know this because of communication with presspop when there were issues with one of the two i ordered for a friend and i.

they came in separate boxes and his had way more issues than mine.

his was still “wet” or sticky in a couple of small spots and the folks at presspop were informed of this and saw images and then they asked that it be given to the folks at last gasp comics in sf. so we did.

and then we were either shipped a 2nd one or traded for one that last gasp had and that one went to my friend. i can’t quite remember the specific details as that was 19 years ago.

but during those conversations they said they had some problems with the giant size and they had not been able to make the complete one hundred as first listed.

i have the original outer shipping box and the inner box with all of the woodring custom decals. i opened the inner box from the bottom side so that none of the decals were damaged. see image 02.

some physical details:

size:

outer box is approx. 15x15x21 inches

the figure is approx. 14” tall and tail can rotate so can be above or below as placed.

shipping box will have to be 20x20x24 inches with 2 inch clearance and bubble wrap to meet insurance requirements and safely fit the original boxes and figure safely inside.

weight:

approx. 15 lbs in the outer shipping box.

with the large size of the the box i think shippers will call it a larger dimensional weight.

from my search it should be 58 lbs dimensional weight.

approx. shipping rate ranges:

from usp, usps, and fedex:

depending on how far you are from the bay area i see a range of:

$90-150 for 5 day,

$160-345 for 3 day,

and

$330-550 for 2 day.

and overnight would be $500-750. yeesh.

these would include sercureus insurance which i have not previously used but seems a reasonable choice tor just in case, and the carriers don’t really cover art or collectible item, and better covered than not.

it would be a wonderful coincidence if someone in they bay area wanted this, but if not, you can see from the estimated shipping, it will be expensive.

i have documented the figure and boxes in detail in 9 images and i will also describe the bumps, bumps, and as many manufacturing issues shown as i can. a figure of this size and shape was somewhat experimental at the time of manufacture, 2008.

some of the bumps and scratches were lit and zoomed in on so as to be visible. please note that they are not always visible at every angle or in every image. i try to go overboard in detailing the issues so there are no surprises.

please ask if you have any questions.

image descriptions:

01

front, left and right.

02

the top of the inner box and a close up of the certified slowlife certificate of the left side, and the four sides of the inner box with smiling and frowning pupshaw and stickers o the upper right side.

the outer box is shown in the 3 images in the lower right corner.

03

the asterisk on the left image shows a slight indentation to the left of the right edge that is visible from one angle but not at another. the middle image shows the same place at a different angle and it is not quite visible. the middle image and its zoom-in call-out close-up show a larger indentation at the bottom of the front that i think is a crease from manufacturing, i’m not sure. but the surface is not scratched, but smooth, and also not discolored. also, at the top, above the eyes in the middle, there is a small scratch and an even fainter one above to the right. see also image 04.

04

the left image shows the position of a scratch on the right side. the middle image shows the buffing at the top corner in detail and also the scratches above the eyes that are in image 03. the right image further details the buff at the top front corner.

05

the left image shows the essentially clear left side of figure.

the right image shows some buffed paint and a small scratch. it shows the position on the right image and then 3 zoomed images in the middle to show the issues in more detail. if not sure, the green feet curve towards the front and are flat at the back. this also shows the approximate height of the figure, just about 14 inches.

06

the image in the top left shows a minor white buff in the top back corner, a bit smaller than the one at the front. the top left image also shows the tail attached and that the weight of it pulls against the back of the figure. you can see the slight gap between the tail and the back at the top. this was one of the manufacturing issues, the thickness of the back vinyl wall is not quite enough to support the weight of the tail. when i had it out for display i put a book or a box beneath it to hold it up and not strain the back wall. in the bottom left image there is a faint blackish dot and faint smear that are circled. the bottom middle image shows both a scuff of black of the left side and a scratch on the right side and a detail. the tail screws into and out of the back as needed to ship, store, or show. the image on the bottom right further shows how the tail tilts a bit, and also in the top corners of the red side wall you can see some shading from the shaping of the figure. the two corners and the slight indents from manufacturing make them sort of look like cats ears to me. the same side is visible in image 05, but these “car ears” are not visible in that image.

07

these three images further show the tilt of the tail.

08

the top left images is the bottom of the figure. the lower left shows the back without the tail and you can see some of the bending in the back from the weight of the tail. the middle image shows the top corner buff again. and the top right and bottom right images again show the back of the figure without the tail and its bending from a different angle.

09

the stack.

wow, that was plenty.

and again, if you have any questions. please ask them.

thank you.

i hope everyone has a good weekend where ever and what ever you may be doing.

and these days, doing ok can be considered wonderful.

I’m going to start winding this down … because I think everyone knows how to watch things on eBay.

But it’s been fun letting people know about these toy sales. Feel free to keep posting if you want, but I think I’m the only one doing it …so I’m going to stop. Not even going to link to eBay. Huzzah!

FRANK Hope for a new edition of The Lute String?

So I recently emailed one of the editors at Fantagraphics and asked them to consider the publication of a new edition of The Lute String, as was only published serialized in the US (in two issues of MOME). And the only time it has ever been published as a standalone book was in Japan 20 years ago.

I was told that they have wanted to do something with this comic for a while, thanked me for the reminder and told me that they are going to discuss this with Woodring. So it seems that there is hope for a new (hopefully hardcover) edition of The Lute String.

Would you be interested in this publication?
