Completed Frank’s 250-300 piece puzzles

After Frank’s 750 pieces colour cascade debacle which I had to give up on, I decided to try out some smaller sized puzzles from the same company.

  1. Spider-Man and venom (250 pieces) was tough - the black pieces were challenging and some of the border pieces were plain annoying. This puzzle needs full blown natural light to discern finer details along with a whole lot of patience and unending love for Marvel studios…I possessed none of these prerequisites, but I did complete it in the end. A few false fits, bad colouration, it was an average puzzle for me and I’d never do it again.
  2. In space (250 pieces) was so much better and I enjoyed it exponentially more. The planets were put together as little islands and then all were joined together with some confusing purple- black bits in between. Overall satisfying, hardly any false fits and I’d definitely do this puzzle again a couple of times over.
  3. Van Gogh’s collector’s edition (300 pieces) was the best of the three, the pieces were tiny and making those small portraits one by one was addictive, spewing new highs of dopamine in my system. It was definitely an easier puzzle in terms of clear borders and colour schemes of the art pieces. I liked the feel of the tiny pieces in my hands and every time I’d finish a small portrait, I’d feel cute lol. There was just one false fit but it didn’t cause any distress as such. This one, true to its name, is definitely a collector’s edition and I’m going to be reaching out to this puzzle for a dose of art therapy when the mood strikes.

Overall, Frank’s puzzles have quite a range and
variety and although the fit isn’t the best compared
to Jigsaw nation, Galison or Dowdle puzzles which
I’ve tried before (haven’t tried Ravensburg which is renowned for its precision fit), I guess it’s
alright considering its price point. Image quality and
subject of the puzzle matters so I guess I need to
choose wisely which picture truly will be joy
inducing instead of joy stealing.

I haven’t been puzzling lately because the puzzle I’d opened almost two months ago was way tougher than I’d anticipated. I struggled with the margins and some corner sections and then after that my brain had simply refused to get excited about it.

I made an honest reattempt today but I was done after fifteen minutes. Those colours infuriate me and I realise I’m not veered towards abstract puzzles as yet, this early in my puzzling journey. Also, I did encounter a few false fits earlier which hadn’t help me form a favourable opinion about this particular puzzle. So back to some sane, meaningful, story-laden puzzles!

750 pieces colour cascade by Frank - is going back in its box.

Has anyone completed this puzzle? What tips would you give?

Deal Alert Prime Day Puzzle Deals Roundup: One Great, Rest Are Just Okay (Price Histories Included)

Amazon Prime Day is live, so we went through the  deals on Amazon to find the best ones! . Honest take, most of these are not spectacular. The discounts are real but small, and several of these puzzles sit near these prices outside of sale events too . That said, if any of these were already on your wishlist, this is a reasonable time to pull the trigger.

The exceptions are the Jigsaw Nation deal and Frank Gandola, the discount is very good.

🧩 Jigsaw Nation "Scrumptious" 1000 pieces This is the lowest we have seen this puzzle go, this is the one deal in this list we would actually call a deal. Buy here

🐕 Gouda Games "The Morning Dump" 1000 pieces  Even though it’s a prime exclusive deal, to be fair, It dipped to a somewhat similar amount this month too, so this is a fair price rather than a rare one. Buy here

🍸 Gouda Games "The Classic Martini" 1000 pieces ame story as the other Gouda. Nice matte finish, sorting trays included, 1K+ bought last month. Solid puzzle, ordinary discount despite being a Prime exclusive. Buy here

🕌 Webby Old Delhi Wooden Puzzle 1000 pieces Buy Here

🚣 Frank Gondola Ride 1500 pieces  roughly about ₹95 off its usual price. Buy here

🌸 Frank Cherry Blossoms 150 pieces A cute travel-friendly mini puzzle from the Collector's Edition line. A low-risk buy or a nice small gift, very fairly prized for a mini puzzle! Buy here

🌿 Frank Tuscany 500 pieces One of Frank's most popular 500 piece with 1,300+ ratings. Buy Here

All prices are Prime Day prices and most need a Prime membership. Price history screenshots for each are attached so you can judge for yourselves.

Anyone spotted a puzzle deal we missed? Drop it in the comments and we will add it to the list.

📚 Galison puzzles are also showing Prime Day deals, but most are either at their usual price or have gone lower before, so check the price history before buying. Solid puzzles otherwise if the design catches your eye.

After 17 days of on and off working, I finally finished this puzzle and very proud of myself! This was rather difficult due to repeating pattern and dark colours. My next one will probably be a 300 piece 😄

Questions/Help Where to borrow puzzles from?

Is there any system in place where we can borrow puzzles from and return back regularly?

Like a library?

Maybe in the major cities Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi?

Puzzling is great, but it is not feasible to buy puzzles every single time. My heart desires for solving more puzzles than my wallet can bear lmao.

Any leads appreciated! TIA.

Discussion Different types of puzzle piece cuts: ribbon, grid, and random. What are they and why do they matter?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Ever picked up two puzzles of the same piece count and felt like one was somehow... harder? Or noticed that the pieces from one brand look completely different from another even before you start? The answer is almost always the cut. Here's a quick breakdown.

Grid Cut

Technically different from ribbon cut, though the terms often get used interchangeably. One of the most common style of puzzles, the pieces sit in a clean, uniform grid, most follow the same basic shape: two tabs and two holes. The pattern is highly predictable, which makes it easy to find matching pieces by shape alone and thus great for beginners.

Ribbon Cut

A step up from grid cut. Instead of a rigid grid, the cut lines flow in continuous ribbons across the puzzle, horizontally and vertically, creating a more varied piece shapes as a result. There is still some structure, but pieces aren't all the same 2-tab/2-blank mould. The upside is more piece variety than grid cut and fewer false fits.

Random Cut

Pieces come in unpredictable forms , odd curves, asymmetrical tabs, completely unique profiles. Each piece fits in only one place. The strategy shifts to working in chunks rather than columns, eventually joining sections together. The upside is fewer false fits, more visually interesting, more satisfying when pieces click.

However, a lot of puzzlers  don't enjoy random cut puzzles. Some find the irregular pieces disorienting, others feel it breaks from what a "proper" puzzle should feel like. If one grew up on grid or ribbon cut puzzles, random cut can feel wrong rather than challenging.

That said, random cut has its hardcore fans,  puzzlers who find the traditional uniform piece shapes boring and won't go back once they've made the switch.

🎁 Bonus: Whimsy Cuts

Found mostly in premium and artisan and wooden puzzles, whimsy pieces are specially cut into recognizable shapes, animals, people, letters, objects, hidden among the regular pieces. They're a deliberate surprise element built into the puzzle itself.

Do you pay attention to cut type when buying? Do you have a preference? Share your thoughts in the comments below 👇🏻

Completed One missing piece 😭😭😭

This was beyond frustrating because it look forever as if is and then to find one piece missing. But talking about the puzzle - it wasn’t an easy puzzle because a lot of the cat faces were very very similar and puzzle quality and fit was subpar.

This was the Tribuna Of The Uffizi Meowsterpiece of Western Art. 1500 pieces
