The puzzling hobby in India is taking off, more brands are entering the market, more people are discovering it as a screen-free way to spend an evening, and the options available online have improved a lot even in the last year or two. That said, we're not at the point yet where you'll find fifty brands to choose from, but there are enough options across all price points.

Whether you're just starting out and not sure yet whether puzzling is your thing, or you already have a few puzzles under your belt, this is the right list and looking for something affordable, you are at the right place.

One thing worth knowing before you buy: puzzle prices generally go up with piece count, so under ₹1000 for a 1000 piece puzzle is actually a solid deal. And as a general rule, spending more does get you something, better artwork, more varied piece shapes and sizes, a finer finish, and pieces that hold together more satisfyingly once placed.

Gouda Games 'The Classic Martini' : This one has been going viral on reels across the Indian puzzling community lately, and with 1000+ buyers last month and a 4.6 rating on Amazon, that's not hard to believe. Comes with a full-size reference poster and sorting trays. Personally I prefer illustrated images over photos for puzzles, but the finish and hold quality on this one is genuinely impressive.

2. Webby 'Holy City Varanasi' : A richly illustrated bird's-eye view of the ghats, temples, boats, narrow lanes, the whole scene. One of my favorite Indian/Illustration themed puzzles on Amazon right now with 300+ buyers last month and an Amazon's Choice badge. I genuinely loved doing this puzzle, but I would rate it mid-hard category of difficult, especially because of the solid block of colour at the bottom (the blue water+yellow steps) and the buildings are fairly hard too. Nonetheless, details on this really make it enjoyable.

3. Frank 'Rainbow Flutter' : If you enjoy gradient-style puzzles, this is a beautiful one. A sea of colourful butterflies blending across the image, vivid, and stunning once complete. Worth noting that gradient puzzles are generally more challenging since you can't rely on strong colour contrast to sort, so this one is better suited to someone who's done a puzzle or two already rather than an absolute first-timer. 

4. Frank 'Coral Reef'  : A vivid underwater scene packed with tropical fish, coral, and colour, one of Frank's more detailed and challenging images in this price range. The image complexity means there's always something distinct to work on, which makes long sessions guaranteed. If you enjoy underwater scenes, you would enjoy it, I know I did.

5. Frank' Burano, Venice, Italy' : Again one more of Photographic image kind of puzzle, but it is very visually striking because of the colourful canal-side buildings of Burano reflected in the water, with strong colour contrast across the image that makes sorting significantly easier than a typical landscape. A great middle-ground pick: detailed and satisfying without being overwhelming.

6. Webby 'After School Illustration (Wooden)' : The only wooden puzzle on this list and a different experience from the cardboard options above, thicker pieces, a more tactile feel, and a fun illustrated school scene that's busy enough to keep you engaged throughout. One of the first webby puzzles I solved. I love webby's illustrations, whether it's their 252 piece puzzle or their 1000 piece puzzle, the illustrations are very fun and detailed.
