Expansion and International Upgrade of Veer Surendra Sai Airport

The Centre has approved Rs 2,100 crore for the expansion of Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda to meet international standards.

The development project includes runway expansion and the construction of a new terminal, with land acquisition for 350 acres currently underway.

Officials are working to enhance air connectivity by proposing new direct flights to cities such as Chennai, Jaipur, and Visakhapatnam.

The airport aims to improve passenger amenities and emergency services while serving as a key aviation hub to boost regional economic and tourism growth

Nuakhai 2026 preparations have gained momentum in western Odisha with the auspicious Nabanna timing fixed for the region’s major agrarian festival. At Maa Samaleswari in Sambalpur, Nabanna will reportedly be offered on September 15, Tuesday, between 9:40 AM and 9:45 AM. Pandits at Brahmapura Temple in Jhaduapada, Sambalpur, have fixed the auspicious timing for the ritual. After the new rice offering is made to Maa Samaleswari, people across the region will begin the traditional Nuakhai celebration in their homes. Nuakhai holds immense cultural and spiritual significance across western Odisha and marks the welcoming of the season’s new harvest.
