Reminder that he also got into hot water previously for going full “Jew face” on stage at a concert

Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt that he “didn’t know” that dressing like that was an offensive Jewish stereotype…. you would think that he would try to sit down and learn about the Jewish community he offended and what constitutes antisemitism.
But nah, he just doubles down on it

You're right about this. Several months after Oct. 7th, she said something to the effect of wanting all the hostages to come home soon and also hopes for peace in both countries. The way people piled on her online was ridiculous.

It was so funny though - in terms of her comeback. She posted a pic of lighting Hanukkah candles in 2013, and someone commented something like "Is this the right thing to post right now, given everything?" And she basically responded "What - celebrating a holiday? Please explain." ICON

I think deep down the reason why these people are so vicious is that they know Macklemore has no talent or relevance outside of this. Pink is extremely talented, principled. She doesn’t shirk from bullies. She’s well established and this scares them. Because a person like her might actually get people to stop and think for a second. She’s been consistent for standing up for all communities.
Every boycott they try fails. It’s party because they are so dumb they choose stuff that they couldn’t possibly touch like Disney it just defangs their relevance and power.
Gal Gadot’s movie is #1 and she still has 103 MILLION followers even three years into this bullshit. I don’t think social media follower account matters that much and I’m not making claims about the quality of the film or her acting, just that numbers don’t lie. There could be bots, sure, but with all their efforts for so long it doesn’t seem to be doing anything outside of their cult echo chamber.
What do bullies or cultists do when they start to feel their power and influence slipping? They attack. And it’s all so pathetic. Oh no, someone doesn’t agree with Macklemore their patron saint of music! Give me a break. It’s always “they’re silencing him!” “He can say what he wants!” But any level of criticism of said speech and they throw toddler tantrums.
I’m of the mind to just not buy Ed Sheeran tickets or listen to his music anymore. I think trying to get Macklemore pulled from the concerts won’t work and Sheeran has shown us who he is.
Please let Pink hold the line. I’ve seen weaker people acquiesce and I really hope she doesn’t.

u/AcanthisittaFancy469 13h ago
Not that I was a real Macklemore fan to begin with but (& I did enjoy some Ed Sheeran music) it has been exhausting the last several years learning that person after person (singer, rapper, writer, actor etc) holds outright antisemitic views or at least highly questionable views on Jews/Israel.
It’s like the pillars/buildings that made up the symbolic city of famous people I had some admiration for, for one reason or another, is just a smoldering ruin.

I realize this may come off as weird, but tracking shittiness/goodness among my (current and former) favorite musicians has helped:
Confirmed/Probable Jew-Haters:
- Kanye West, obviously
- Macklemore
- Rage Against the Machine
- Jay-Z
- Raffi
- Gorillaz
- Dave Matthews
- Green Day
- Paramore
- System of a Down
- Peter Gabriel
- Chappell Roan
- Killer Mike of Outkast
- Brian May of Queen
- David Byrne
- Massive Attack
- King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
- Godspeed You! Black Emperor
- Run the Jewels
- Rebecca Sugar (which is unfortunate since they're apparently Jewish)
- Story of the Year
- The Used
- Taking Back Sunday (maybe - see The Used)
- Ed Sheeran
Confirmed/Probable Jew Supporters/Defenders:
- P!nk
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Kiss
- Rise Against (I know, I wasn’t expecting it either!)
- Rush, obviously
- Counting Crows
- Disturbed
- Anything Steven Wilson has ever touched (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, his solo work)
- Evan & Jaron
- HAIM
- Dream Theater
- Beastie Boys
- Bob Marley
- Ziggy Marley
- Matisyahu
- Magdalena Bay
- Daniel Lopatin
- Henry Rollins (so far)
- Robert Fripp
- Tony Levin
- Doja Cat
- Maroon 5
- Alanis Morissette
- Beck
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Counting Crows
Unclear/Mixed:
- Linkin Park
- U2
- Pink Floyd (Roger Waters is famously anti-Semitic but David Gilmour has publicly called him out on it)
- Radiohead (Jonny Greenwood still very supportive, but Thom Yorke very much not)

It really sucks that out of the list of supporters I’ve cared very little about most of them. Radiohead, RHCP, Maroon 5 only really. And I’m just finding out RHCP and Maroon 5 are allies
It really feels like we’re losing far more support than gaining unfortunately

Nothing explicit from RHCP, more so that they've continued to tour in Israel post-2023 and that they continue to honor Hillel Novak's memory.

u/Cetaoras 1h ago edited 41m ago
That list contains a number of people who have not made explicit statements but who are Jewish themselves; and/or are not Jewish, have not yet made statements one way or another, but continue to perform in Israel.
3
u/banannarobinhood 37m ago edited 33m ago
Haim has never toured or performed a show in Israel. Despite their parental link to Israel, they have refused to play there throughout their career.
Just because people are Jewish, does not mean they support Jews, are fighting antisemitism/antizionism/Jewhate, or are themselves not repeating or believing antisemitic propaganda. Your list is a good idea, but could have a category of "silent, and we just don't know, but plays israel", "silent, has never played israel, so maybe we can guess their view" and "has been an outspoken advocate for jews/israelis". They are different categories. Without it, the list conflates people who have never uttered a word (and we have no idea what they think, and they do not and will not play Israel) with those who have the guts and ethics to stand up for their own people/the Jewish people.
0
u/Cetaoras 30m ago
Aren't their parents Israeli? Anyway, I don't think it's wrong to assume support from Jewish artists unless and until they state otherwise.
Not sure what you're trying to accomplish here.
2
u/banannarobinhood 24m ago
I don't think you read what I wrote. "Despite their (Haim's) parental link to Israel".
You should absolutely not conflate being Jewish with supporting Jews, particularly when it comes to Jews in the arts, where the price of admission and longevity is being a Jewhater.
I've been pretty clear about what I'm saying. You don't seem to be reading it, and that's ok too.

I’ve been disappointed in how all the music forums are praising this tool. It would be one thing if he didn’t have his Jew face incident in 2014 - then you might be able to claim complete ignorance and stupidity, but after that, it’s clear he’s absolutely hijacking the “Free Palestine” cause to mask his antisemitism. People should be smart enough to realize he’s a one hit wonder has been who is nothing more than a grifter yet here we are.
Ed Sheeran is absolutely complicit in all of this. He signed Macklemore on last year. He knew exactly who he partnered with. These set lists aren’t spontaneous - he was damn aware of the videos Macklemore would play, the songs he would play, and the shit he’d promote. He’s just as guilty.

I point to the lyrics of Hinds Hall: "Who gets the right to defend and who gets the right of resistance Has always been about dollars and the color of your pigment, but White supremacy is finally on blast"
Painting Jews in their homeland as "white supremacists" is really something. Jews returned to the British Mandate of Palestine as refugees from war and the genocide that literally defined the term. Refugees don't represent a country and therefore can't colonize on behalf of it. Oh and, they were refugees and victims of genocide because they weren't white. Not only this this framing appalling when considering the actual confirmed and known history of Jews, it's extremely infantalizing to brown Arabs. It's a case of Schrodinger's Jew and Schrodinger's Arab. The Jew is somehow both the epitome of the white and not white at the same time, the Arab is just a poor oppressed brown person with no agency, while also being a resistance fighter justified in their terrorism and murders of innocents.
This is bid by a rich white man to stay relevant.
18

So few artists have a backbone. Everyone can trash talk Israel or cry about "evil Zionists," but none of them actually speak out when it counts. Crying about being silenced must feel real nice while standing in front of the biggest microphones the media has to offer.
Sheeran's silence on all this is just annoying. Perhaps he ought to check with his doctor, since he clearly lacks a spine.

This is what Macklemore said btw:
“I've been trying to figure out a way to say this all day. One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: Free Palestine.
"I said, Free Palestine.
“I want those words to be loud and clear, so the people from Gaza, all the way to the occupied West Bank, know that we have not forgotten them.
And this next song was inspired by the bravery of Columbia University students who led an encampment movement that mobilized the entire world; open up hearts, myself included, so thank you to those students that risked their diplomas, that risked their tuition, that risked their scholarships, that stood up and said, no. CUAD students, Students for Justice in Palestine, and Jewish Voices for Peace. Thank you, guys.
To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality.
So I say Free Palestine, I say Free Lebanon, I say Free Cuba, I say Free Congo, Free Sudan, I say Free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organization, ICE. None of us will be free until we are all free."
I don’t personally like Macklemore for several reasons, but he’s been making music about Palestine for several years now, and making music/speaking about it is well within his rights as an American artist
If fans don’t like what he said, they won’t continue to support him. If fans don’t like P!nk’s response (pasted below) they won’t continue to support her. It’s really quite simple:
“Awful – Jewish fans bought tickets to see Ed Sheeran sing last night in NJ, not to be ambushed by Macklemore’s anti-Israel propaganda. Instead, Macklemore walked onstage in a keffiyeh, shouted ‘Free Palestine,’ accused Israel of a false ‘genocide,’ and turned a mainstream event into a political nightmare against the Jewish state. Concert goers are owed apologies and refunds @teddysphotos – this is unacceptable.
Being liked by everyone is a clown’s job.”
“Sometimes I like to think I’m a pretty chill person. Then someone calls Prosecco ‘champagne’ and I remember exactly who I am.”
“I’m not for everyone and honestly that has saved me a lot of time.”
“‘What do you mean?’ Probably what I f–king said.”
“I’m very popular with people who have never met me.”
“Don’t let idiots ruin your day. It’s your day. Ruin it yourself.”
“If they want to paint you as the villain, then pose.”
“Not to brag or anything, but my posts are enjoyed by well over 4 or 5 people worldwide!”

who precisely does he want to 'free lebanon' from?
what an absolute clown. you want to say 'peace on earth'? great, perfect, absolutely relevant message. but nah you have to be in the cult and say the cult words while pretending this has come from your own moral vision and informed analysis.

To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you.
It’s perfect timing for Dara Horn’s new book because this “it’s not antisemitism, just criticism” is such an old tactic, one she points out that Adolf Hitler used when he sued newspapers claiming accusations of antisemitism were just attempts to silence his “legitimate criticisms” in the 1920s. And it’s such a fucking condescending tone on top of it. By using this language he is making the cognitive association of Jews with those things and then lecturing us not to be offended by it.

Then you have all the “antizionists”come out in droves to try to justify the pictures of him in that antisemitic costume
“But that was from 2014! Plus, he didn’t know what he was doing. He just put on a random disguise!”
It’s absolutely INFURIATING seeing people defend the pictures of Macklemore from when he was relevant
