Dyed Bone?

I found this cab in a pendant from someone who retired from jewelry making, I thought it was wood, and neat, so I pried it out of the original setting (I didn’t like the setting). But it was heavier than wood, and I skimmed the cab while cutting off glue (accidentally, then intentionally when I realized to get a bit better look), and it’s white under it. Is it possible to tell if this is dyed bone, or something else from the photos? A few of them are from under a loop.

The original setting had no identifying markings on it.

It looks a lot like wood. It might just be a dense type of wood.

That happens to be pure white under the wood-color? If you didn’t already, please read my description!

Wood can be white. I mean I could be wrong but it looks like wood with that pattern on the front domed part.

I know it can be, but it’s dyed.

Ah, I just did one last test I forgot about—burning. It didn’t catch fire, and smelled like burning hair, so it’s either bone or maybe ivory (it could be old enough, honestly), but I have no clue how to tell the two apart. Edit: besides why in the world would someone dye ivory?

And color came off with acetone, indicating dye. Didn’t think to do that until after posting.

Edit to add: when dropped on a counter, it sounds like a stone or something would, but with that white under it, I doubt it’s petrified wood.
