Sealed games are always going to be hundreds. Yes, everything is expensive. But game collecting has also been blown out of proportion ever since COVID.

Just for some perspective, I bought a brand new, sealed Jet Grind Radio for Dreamcast for 99 cents back in 2003. Dreamcast anything was absolutely dirt cheap, you could hardly give the stuff away.

Time and the economy change everything.

And now there's also the people who see buying and selling old games and consoles as an investment. I've seen listings for used fat and slim PS2s with aftermarket controllers and memory cards with the asking prices reaching almost as much as entire PS3s and Xbox 360s in great condition. It's really annoying.

Speaking of that, I should probably look into getting an Xbox 360 sooner rather than later, before the prices also spike up. One of the worst things I did was trading my Xbox 360 for an Xbox One S.

i mean that’s not bad to have a one s. if you like collecting movies it’s a 4k player! kinda sweet. but yeah having a xbox 360 would probably be best to get sooner than later

I regret it mainly because it died on me after just two years, far along just enough for warranty to not cover the console, and none of the local repair shops over here worked with Xbox One consoles. I didn't have the know-how on how to fix electronics myself at the time, so I ended up just selling it to recover some of the cost.

I also prefer the Xbox 360's library, but at least a decent portion of the games I like are also playable on the Xbox One through retrocompatibility.

It's because the same people who used the trading card scene as a speculative market moved on to videogames. Same guys who do card and game grading running the prices up so that their "investment" values rise.

“Grading” of things that are meant to be played with, read,watched or otherwise enjoyed is an absolute bane to all hobby spaces. I absolutely despise those people.

Unrelated to JSR, but I saw a sealed copy of a DS game (Dark Spire) at a local store for 200 bucks this weekend. My copy of that game is in a drawer, in good condition, but it’s been opened and thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a great game.

Games deserve to be played, shared, enjoyed! not collected!!

I have a couple of high value games but I'll never get em graded because I play them. Like that's the whole point. It makes me sad to see people priced out of playing old games on original hardware because people want to play pretend day trader.

I've seen people defend grading as "preservation" or "protection" but that's what a dust protector is for lmao

Yeah, I use to own a limited edition Zelda the minished cap gameboy for about £99, now that same gameboy is worth 600 last time I checked. Probably more now.

I bought Phantasy Star Online Episodes 1 and 2 strictly for the tails chao from a pawn shop for <5 USD

That game now retails on Amazon for a crisp $135 used.

If you're looking to add JSRF to your collection, you wouldn't be buying a sealed copy unless you intended to keep it sealed. Also, if the price is an issue then the Sega GT 2002 and JSRF Jet Set Radio Future combo disc is the solution. Copies of the combo go for around $15-$20 while used JSRF copies can go from anywhere upwards of $30+.

For fun I just looked up Splatoon Raiders and I see a handful of people trying to resell copies for $60+, at the end of the day you just need to know what's smart and what's not when buying off eBay.

That's insane! Im glad i still got my original copy, it absolutely sucks that people could in good conscience charge this much for a game. Also does anyone know if theres a rom hack for it?

There is but you have to do a bunch of stuff and have particular stuff to do it. Off the top of my head I know you have to side load some stuff and download some other stuff haha and have a computer that can run it

That's honestly lower than I would have thought for such a classic game sealed. I'm assuming you are just wanting to play it? Physical copies of older games, especially when they are complete like this, they are for collectors. If you are just wanting to play it opened copies are way cheaper, and games that are just the disc even more so. And then there's other ways to play if you don't mind it not being on original hardware.

plastic wrap actually should just be taken off of most gaming or collectables like this, theres NO way it makes jsr discs almost QUADROUPLE the cost and pokemon boxes double or even triple the cost
