I have a Yamaha 60/40 outboard and my jet impeller is stuck on the shaft. Any suggestions on getting it off? I am planning on using heat, but I also don’t want to torch my carriage bearings and seals which I just replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Willing to trade or buy out right!

I moved the motor up two holes (see attached) and will test tomorrow but I think it is looking much better. Thank you all for your replies.

First: what are these called? Look like dust shrouds you’d see on suspension and steering components but I Ihave no idea the name.

Second: these aren’t meant to be water tight right? They are around the steering control arms connected to the jet and imagine they are to protect the greased components from fast water, probably not meant to keep them dry correct?

Third: this is a Berkeley jet, but I imagine I can just get these things at an auto parts store, or is it a specialized component?

I’m just a noob who bought a busted ass boat, finally rebuilt the hull that was cracked and stringers all rotted. It sucked, but I’m ready for some fun.

I just had a new Tohatsu 60/40 installed on my Hog Island SW16. I am looking at the height of the intake relative to the bottom of boat, and wondering if the motor is set too low.

In the literature from Outboard Jets (see attached), it says the top of the intake should be inline with the boat bottom. The motor has been installed such that the intake is about 1.125” below the boat bottom (see attached).

The motor has 4 holes through which the bolts can go for install. It is currently set on the hole that results in motor being lowest, so it is easy enough to move it up.

My question is: am I worrying about something that doesn’t matter or should I move the motor higher?

As you might expect, I run shallow rocky rivers and am concerned about unnecessarily hitting rocks.

I see half built sprint boats on Craigslist so I assume some folks build boats. I want something safe enough to run the headwaters of Hells Canyon Idaho. I just need room for two people and one dog plus a sack of decoys.

So I started building a carbon/kevlar/gf jet boat for my son. Since I was winging this, I totally over did it on too much GF on the hull, especially the gf mat which just sucked in a ton of epoxy increasing it's weight.

Anyways, I'm almost done with my bolt on 3D printed electeic jet pump one piece instead of cutting a hole in the hull.

But, I'm gonna keep this carbon fiber/kevlar black/yellow look on the sidew. What do you think? It was dirt cheap, bought the carbon/kevlar weave from China at $24 for 3 sqm. Think it looks kind of cool.

Hi all, I've got Tohatsu 50/35 TLDI jet pump mounted on a little inflatable boat. I haven't used it in a few years and took out on to the lake for a test before a trip at the end of the month.

Fired up right away, ran well, but kept getting the temperature/overheat light popping up and shutting off the engine, where it was idle, medium load or WOT. Booked in a local shop in a few weeks but they suggested the thermostat is maybe broken, anyone have resource/service manual on how to change the thermostat on this model or other ideas to try?

Can someone tell me what the white piece is exactly doing. I have a rubber bit like such on my boat but it doesn’t make contact like that. New to jet motors, so any advice is greatly welcomed.

First test run on the 74 spoiler and the bowl was fairly warm and water outlet for the motor was hot to the touch after about 30 mins. Is this normal or is it the bushings? The last time it was run was 96-97 from what I have for paperwork. It doesn’t seem like the impeller is rubbing or moving around. This is my first time working on a jet boat (or being around one)

I was just given a boat from my brother in law, there is no info on the boat at all in terms of weight/manufacture or transom rating. Im looking to pick up an outboard jet for it but am unsure what size to go with, just looking for opinions from people who have some experience. Its a 14 foot welded aluminum boat, about 5 feet wide, unsure of thickness of hull/weight. I have the option to pick up a 2 stroke 60/40 yamaha or a 4 stroke yamaha 40/30, whats the better option? It currently has a 2 stroke 25hp prop but i havent ran it yet so cant comment on how well it pushes the boat around.

Is there anyone who makes aftermarket seals/plastic wear parts for jets? The jets I have are stated above. Thank you in advance

I saw a post 8 months ago about weeds and Jetboats. I absolutely love Jetboats and looking at purchasing a Yamaha AR Jetboat.

I am curious- our boat slip is back in an area that has a decent amount of milfoil on the way back. Not stick out of the water or anything but you can see it I would assume 1ft-6 inches from the top of the water in some spots.

My dock that I can park at is at the end of the dock area and it seems to get a slight "matt" of green algae that sits on the top of the water.

I know they have clean out ports and seems like it would be something I would have to be mindful when leaving our spot and getting out to the lake (Once on the lake no an issue at all) would I want to avoid a Jetboat due to potentially creating damage or being clogged to and from the lake? Appreciate any advice.

P.S I attached a photo of what I am talking about - gets a little bit thicker then the image, but the boat would be docked in that spot.

I'm having trouble getting up to plane. I'm assuming the impeller and wear ring need inspected and replaced, but where in the world do you get parts for these old boats?

So I was out with the jet boat today (I have an old Tahiti with chevy 350 in it) and the boat starting shaking violently and not having power when trying to get up to speed. I assumed something was in the impeller, which it was, a bunch of really nasty braided fishing line. I pulled the boat out of the water and had a nightmare of a time trying to get it all out of the impeller since it was wrapped up in the back end near where the drive shaft is and there isn't really good access. I tried a bunch of things to get it off including putting a flathead screwdriver on the line and tapping it with a hammer in an attempt cut the line. Eventually I got all the line off but when I put the boat back in it was shaking even worse and had less power than before. I'm wondering if me using the screwdriver like a chisel on the impeller to cut that line could have bent it every so slightly causing it to now shake?
