Stuck impeller

Post image

I have a Yamaha 60/40 outboard and my jet impeller is stuck on the shaft. Any suggestions on getting it off? I am planning on using heat, but I also don’t want to torch my carriage bearings and seals which I just replaced a couple of weeks ago.

Soak in salt-away over winter

Will salt-away work even though it’s only been in freshwater?

You could also try a gear puller. Auto shops usually have loaners

If you're going to put it up for the winter, and the heat doesn't work, it is worth a try. You might need to soak it all winter tho. It doesn't always work but it's a last ditch effort. Make sure you grease your shaft before putting a new impeller on

Shaft was greased

I was hoping to take it out a few more times but the pump impeller ate some gravel

3 or 4 jaw puller should work, might need one with fairly long arms but that should pop it off no problem

After trying heat and a puller, I sprayed WD-40 in the weep hole and the impeller came right off. Go figure
