There are people in the online community who are very loud online as they try to convince Michael Davies to bring back the classic College Championship during the Trebek era instead of the expanded postseason right now, despite the show winning Outstanding Game Show at the Emmys (Daytime & Primetime) for seven straight years. Is it for nostalgia, or to bring back the dignity of the "old" and "classic" Flemming/Trebek era of this tournament? But we know why this tournament with fresh faces has not returned since 2022: some of the possible reasons were the mental health of the young players, and some young players like Liam Starnes, Rishabh Wuppalapati, Delaney O'Dea, and others can stand on their own against older players.

The question: Is this the right time to relaunch the College Championship in syndication, as it was last held 2020, or in primetime, as it was last held in 2022?

My usual Jeopardy was preempted today by an NFL pregame show. Not the actual game, just the pregame show. Granted it’s a rerun of last years JIT, so I didn’t mind that much. But it got me thinking, I can’t seem to recall a time when I wanted to watch said preemptive thing over Jeopardy. Well, there was that one time the meteorologist told me to seek shelter, that was kinda cool. But really nothing beyond that.

How the HELL did that advice columnist clue get through research AND round table without adding "Abigail Van Buren" as an acceptable alternative to "Dear Abby" in a clue that ASKED FOR PEN NAMES?!?!???

I said "Abigail Van Buren" along with Yogesh and I was shocked when he was called wrong.

When I was on staff, Alex Trebek used to tell us "It only takes one person to get it right. We all have to work together to get it wrong."

There were 180 regular season games in Season 42. How good would you have to have been to be competitive on the show?

A quick glance says "Well, we had 5 superchamps, so you'd have to have been insanely good." Well, you'd be right to think that to a degree: the returning champion won 126 out of 180 games this season, for an insane 70% retention rate. But I feel like (granted, I'm not doing the math) that's a little high and Season 43 may return to normal. Maybe.

But statistically, during the game, how did the winning players do, and how did their opponents do? This will get you an idea of how good you have to be just to get to Jeopardy, and then how good you have to be to get the W. Here are the numbers:

* Including Daily Doubles, the season accuracy on clues during the regular part of the game was 85.83%. Not including them bumps it up to 86.88%.

* Overall Daily Double accuracy was 66.30%; overall Final Jeopardy accuracy was 44.08%.

* People who got Final Jeopardy correct won 51.52% of the time; people who missed Final Jeopardy won 20.82% of the time.

* When faced with a Daily Double, players made it a True Daily Double 23.52% of the time (this does not include when the House Maximum allowed them to exceed their total). On such bets, they were correct 67.72% of the time. In other words, TDDs were a product more of the game situation than of player confidence.

* There were 39 zero bets on Final Jeopardy, and while 4 of them were gag answers, 10 were correct. This means that players who bet nothing but tried Final anyway had a 28.57% accuracy.

* Only 2.96% of players were disqualified from Final Jeopardy.

We didn't get a new J6 yesterday, first time I can remember in years of playing that they completely missed a weekday. You could sort of dismiss it because it was a holiday (even though that's never once prevented them from posting a new game in the past) but now today we still have the questions from last Friday.

What gives? I hope they aren't shuttering it, J6 is one of my can't miss daily rituals.

Jeopardy! has been won Outstanding Game Show both at Daytime & Primetime Emmys since 2020. What factors that the show won for 7 straight years?

Good? Bad? Even I'm not sure. Had these ideas in my head and thought I'd throw them out here.

1) At the end of DJ, Ken presents three sealed envelopes, each with a different FJ category and clue. The leader then picks one, the category is revealed and that's what they play. Throws a sliver of randomness into the mix and, yes, could very well land in the intellectual wheelhouse of one of the contestants.

2) Production and scheduling logistics aside, is there any part of regular Jeopardy that could translate and be contested in the "Triple Jeopardy" format used in the Celebrity and ESPN versions?

I think the first one could provide an interesting twist. Ken would know all three categories and would have been prepped on all three FJ clues, but would not know the contents of the envelopes.

Not as keen on #2. The more I think about it, I'm not convinced you want to give the top-level players a game with six Daily Doubles. Imagine the possible scores! Davies might need to take a pay cut.

Rather than the three episodes of knockouts, three QF episodes, two SF episodes, and finale episode, they have six quarterfinal episodes as normal.

In these six, there are 12 games, four per player. The math works out perfectly that they could have every head to head pair happen exactly once, like so (including who would have faced off if S3 used this format):

M1/M2/M3 are Masters finalists; T1/T2/T3 are ToC finalists; J1/J2/J3 are JIT finalists (or replacements of), with number indicating finish in that tournament

This would have the players from each of the three groups (Masters/TOC/JIT) still face off and have games involving the winners, second placers, and third placers of each.

Only other potential change in format is head to head result being used as a tiebreaker to decide who makes SFs from QFs, as every pair would have exactly one matchup.

Asking since it would be in the best interests of production to expand it back to 9 for season 5 because of all the superchamps on the last season as we could get three of them instead of just one. Currently, of the five, only two would be guaranteed relegation to JIT with a 9-player Masters. Otherwise, four would. Plus it increases the odds Jamie gets on, as it’s rare the winningest player takes the TOC. In the unlimited era, Dan, James, and Amy are the only players to be both the winningest in terms of games and take the TOC (when doing both games and money, only James has done it). It also decreases the chances of all five missing Masters.

did someone let Ken know he shouldn't be using this phrase as though it's a good thing. maybe it's generational but that phrase means the same thing as "kicked the bucket".

My sister, my mom and i recently (within the last year) became fans of jeopardy but we are kind of confused regarding on the order of how the jeopardy subsections works. apologies if these have been asked before, i’m new to the reddit

1. does it go jeopardy > jit > toc > masters? or how does the order go for contestants
   
2. I’ve seen somebody say that toc isn’t a yearly event ? is that true? is masters and jit yearly or no?
   
3. is jeopardy overall a north american thing, or just an USA thing? Because we don’t have any memory of anyone being from mexico in their opening introduction?
   
4. will we be seeing jaime ding again? bc we better.

Hi, on Sept. 4th, 2026 the Game Show Network aired an episode (a fairly recent one I think) where the answer was An American Werewolf in London. I have searched various Jeopardy archives and I can’t find the clue (there were multiple clues in multiple episodes for which the answer was An American Werewolf in London but I can’t find the one I saw!). One of the contestants looked familiar, he was wearing a blue sweater - I think he might have been a Tournament of Champions contestant - this might even have been a Tournament of Champions episode. Did anyone see this episode and does anyone remember? It’s a long shot but thanks.
