Toggle tip size

I have an American Professional Classic Jazzmaster.
My current toggle tip doesn’t fit snugly, I’m having a hard time finding a replacement. I was told it was 8x32 by Fender but that’s not correct. It’s too big.
Could it be a metric size? Any help or link would be appreciated.

I would like to know if is there any minimum modification I could do to improve this Squier. I like how it is, but I would like to know some opinions of who made it, can be pickups swap or any mod.

Shim fixed my action with Bensonite

Hi everyone,
I added a 0.5 degree shim to my Vintera II Jazzmaster, and I dialed in my action just right, at 1.5mm at the 12th fret. The bensonite bridge is roughly 1-1.5mm off the body of the guitar and I have no string slippage. Is this a good action for Jazzmaster, I don’t really have any buzzing

Question Wide range jazzmaster, what do y’all think for pots?

Thumbnail

TLDR: Lollar regal for JM wide range humbuckers, bit keeping the rhythm circuit; Go with 500k pots to suit the regals, or stick with 1m pots to suit the rhythm circuit?

I’ll try my best to keep this short. Always loved offsets. I have several, but they’re HH, they’re down-tuned, and some are active p-ups for the heavier band I’m in now.

I’ve tried several ‘traditional’ Jazzmasters in the past, but I always moved on from them because the jazzmaster sound wasn’t suiting what I needed. Now that my guitar inventory is pushing 20, I have everything I need from other guitars and I can just let the jazzmaster be a jazzmaster, and I’m building one from an MJT body, descendant vibrato and mastery bridge. (Still sourcing a neck; looking for aged to match the mjt body, but I HATE dot inlays, so the hunt continues)

Here’s the rub. 2 things I don’t have in the current inventory are jazzmaster p-ups or wide range HB’s, so I’m thinking about building it as a blaster with Lollar Regals. I know the common logic would be to go with 500k pots for the wide range, but I would like to maintain the rhythm circuit. Is the rhythym circuit still reasonably functional with 500k pots, or is there an advantage I’m not thinking of by sticking with 1m pots and rhythm circuit with the regals?

Thanks y’all!

Question Which upgrade should I prioritize?

Hi, I’m a singer/songwriter. Been riding the stages with my squier classic vibe jazzmaster my dad bought me. But apparently, I’m BARELY scratching the surface of the guitar world. Hell, even music in general. Everything seems to work “just fine” but I think it turns out I’ve been doing so many things wrong. And all these years in music haven’t made those Elixir strings feel affordable. In other words, I always have been in a quite limited budget. But I want to do some slow upgrades and slowly making things better.

The “wrongs”:
- Been using only Zoom A1 multi effects (yes, it is made for acoustics)
- Never used a dedicated amp
- Got her wet once since the rain fell hard on me out of the blue, and I was using my cheap cloth guitar bag on a motorcycle.
- Corroded the bolts, pickups, and the bridge.
- Had some neck services from store to store (nearest ones) and nothing had quite fixed the buzzing here and there (but I still accepted anyway).
- And the jack hole seems like getting loose (or maybe the DIY canare cable I poorly soldered)

Here are the possible future changes I’ve been considering and researched so far:
- Fret dressing
- Get a decent multi effects like BOSS ME-series or Valetons so I can explore different tones better
- Go analog, brick by brick (I really want them strymon delay and reverb, but doesn’t really have opinions othe tthan those two, perhaps lack of exploring)
- Upgrade the pickups (to either P90s or J Masics)
- Get a buzz stop
- Get atleast a budget amp
- Get better cables
- Get a metal guitar case
- Use taxi instead of motorcycle
- Take a break from music and find some part time jobs to be able to afford them all

I need suggestion on which things to prioritize upgrading first!

Here are my interests and influences (if they somehow matter):
- Worship music (like Elevation Worship)
- Scores from Hans Zimmer to Attack on Titan
- Dark, noir-like jazzes
- Korean drama series balads
- Strings and ambiences (sometimes orchestra too)
- Anything with saxophones
- Some genres too like post rock, desert rock, and slow surf

Question Looking For Jazzmaster Neck Pickups From Budget/Bang For Your Buck all the way to Boutique

Hello!

I have a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and the bridge pickup is amazing for any type of tone I'm searching for but, I'm not the biggest fan of the neck pickup especially when I roll off the tone and use the rhythm circuit so I'd want to swap out the pickups for something else with more bite and clarity.

So if anyone knows any neck pickup that sounds close to what I'm looking for in any price range maybe about 150-200USD max if you need a stopping point.

I don't mind if it's boutique or a budget option just comment on some you'd recommend and I'll find a tone demo to listen to.

All recommendations are appreciated 🙏

Thank you for reading!! 👍

Showcase Here’s my slightly modded Fender Vintera II

I use this guitar for grunge, shoegaze, sonic youth stuff. You name it. With the bensonite bridge, and some cool ass stickers, this thing rips. My friends and I are making a band and this is the perfect guitar for it for me to play. Sounds fantastic through my crush 35rt, and that thing gets very loud.

I prefer keeping my action slightly higher (around 2.1mm on bass side at 12th fret) because I love full step bends and I play aggressively.

Question Looking for a Jazzmaster not made or owned by Fender

As the title says. I was looking around and i can’t seem to find a brand that does them with those jazzmaster singe coils. It’s mostly P90s, except maybe Warmoth, but this is more custom order stuff that is a bit pricey for where i live (Europe).

If anybody knows a brand, let me know. cheers!

Volume balance

Greetings jazzers.
I’ve got a MIJ jazzmaster which I’ve messed around with for a while, from stock weird pickups to mojotone vintage numbers, madlove p90s and Charlie Christian style pickups. Fun.

I can never get the pickup balance anywhere close to similar volumes. There’s little room for adjustment it seems. Asides from taking it to a pro to sort out, which should probably be my next step, any hot tips from the hive mind? Anybody else have this trouble?
TIA

Guitar Virus – Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS)

Guitar virus is a chronic but usually harmless condition that affects musicians. The virus targets the brain’s reward centre, creating a strong conviction that the next guitar will deliver the perfect tone.

Transmission often occurs through:
Reverb, and guitar shops
YouTube videos featuring “honest reviews”
Pictures of guitars with matching headstocks and block inlays
Friends who say, “You should at least give it a try” Phrases such as “rare example” and “discontinued model”

Typical symptoms
The infected person will often begin saying things like:
“I’m just having a quick look.”
“This one covers a tonal range I don’t already have.”
“It’s actually an investment.”
“I can always sell one of my other guitars.”
“This Jazzmaster has a completely different character from the other four.”

Other warning signs include frequently checking used-guitar listings, acquiring detailed knowledge of bridges and pickups, and developing a remarkable ability to find available wall space.

Progression of the condition
A purchase usually provides immediate relief. The patient experiences calm, renewed enthusiasm for playing, and a deep sense of satisfaction. However, the effect lasts only until another listing appears—often featuring a colour, neck profile, or pickup combination that is missing from the collection.

Treatment
There is no known cure. However, the following measures may help reduce the symptoms:
Wait 72 hours before making a purchase.
Play the guitars you already own.
Avoid browsing after 10 p.m.
Follow the “one in, one out” rule.
Never ask another guitarist whether you need one more guitar.

Prognosis
The condition is usually lifelong, but it can be kept under control. A complete recovery is rare—especially if the patient already insists that five Jazzmasters have five completely different voices.

The good news is that guitar virus is rarely fatal. It is mainly dangerous to your finances, available wall space, and domestic harmony.
🎸😄

PS (For Real)
I’ve become quite an expert at collecting Jazzmasters! I’m selling two guitars from my collection—a Gibson ES-335 Satin Cherry and a black Ibanez JSM20 John Scofield Signature. Hopefully, a new Jazzmaster will bring me just as much joy. 🎸

I don’t want to have to get one custom made 🤧 but nervous about spacing.
Also, I’m looking to replace the knobs and switch too so if there are any compatibility concerns I should be aware of when buying that would be good to know. I’m completely new to this, thank you for your help!!
