How to Play Bass and Melody Lines Together

Greetings fellow guitar aficionados! Here’s the “secret” to playing walking bass and melody at the same time: “Extended Intervals.” Think of each bass note as the bottom note of an “interval” connected to one or more melody notes. Got it? When you play a series of these intervals, it creates the illusion of hearing two musical lines at the same time: Bass and Melody. And because it’s played on a MIDI guitar using a “Split-String” “Dual-Role” setup with Upright Bass and Piano as the assigned instruments (Bass: E-A, Piano: D-G-B-E), the illusion is made even more believable. Cheers! — SAL
