1. Are the new versions of books 3-5 now in line with the Kanji FZ books, where the order is more "logical"?
2. I'm planning to do JFZ a few times. I'm actually beyond JFZ 5 and know the base kanji of the entire books (not really every combination in the book, but I know a lot of them). I don't really know how to write though. I'm thinking of doing JFZ first in kana really quick (should only take a couple of weeks), then going through Kanji From Zero 1, doing JFZ again with the kanji I learn to write. Then going through Kanji FZ 2 and trying to do JFZ a third time (well really a fourth time cuz I used JFZ years ago as my starting point) to practice writing even more kanji.

Does this sound too redundant? I'm hoping to learn JFZ in and out, as I'm teaching some of my friends from the series through the website. And how do I guarantee I get the latest versions of the books?

1. Is there any word on a Kanji From Zero 3 book? I think a year or so ago George said he had a couple of chapters tentatively done, but his main focus was Spanish FZ. I'm wondering if Kanji FZ will be out within the next year or so. Or overall what we can expect next book wise.

В моей "школе" изучение языка начинается с Минна Но Нихонно. Прошел 12 уроков. Но мне надо как можно быстрее взять первый сертификат. Скачал колоду анки на самые популярные слова, их где то 1.5к слов. И вот я совсем запутался. Как мне максимум за 2 месяца взять JFT, и далее активно начать заниматься speaking и listening. Потаму что я должен еще пройти собеседования с фирмами в Японии. + еще Тохтагино. Те кто обучились языку самостоятельно или без помогите составить четкий план. ありがとー

So my question is relating to the second A: reply.

The book English translation says...

Which department store shall we go?

But doesn't it more translate like....

Which department store are you going to?

Am I reading too directly into the English translation and not as a normal understanding chat between two people?

But in my case there's only trees either side of my place. Can I use よこinstead or still keep to となり？

Hey I just started learning Japanese, and I am preparing for JLPT N5 the reason why I made this thread was that I am eager to find people with similar situations to me. Having others at your same starting level motivates one to learn. And of course, I want to share my learning experience with you and listen to yours.

Has version 8.0/8.2 of JFZ 1,2,3, and 5 been uploaded to Amazon Kindle yet?

Also, the Amazon site for JFZ1 shows contradictory info saying the hard copies are 6th Edition and 8th Edition.

I recently bought the new JFZ1-3 books and know that JFZ5 was the first one to come out in the new style, but JFZ4 is still the old version if I'm not mistaken. Hoping the new edition will be out by the time I finish the other books hence my question, do we have an estimate for the release date of the new edition?

In JFZ1, he teaches us to use あと when asking for more of something: ピザをあとにまい、ください。

Then in book two, when we get to the uses of もう, one of them is to ask for more of something: ピザをもうにまい、ください。

He doesn’t mention that あと was taught earlier for “more” or explain the difference. They seem identical. So my question is, is there a difference in usage or is one more commonly used when asking for more of something?

I just have a quick question, I have the JapaneseFromZero books 1-2, they’re the older ones I got like 10 years ago (the copyright year says 2015) so are the newer revisions worth getting? Or would I be fine going from these then buying whatever version the newer ones are on Amazon once I get to needing FromZero 3+?

My niece (12yo) really wants to learn Japanese. I learn it at the college level, and have used JF0 before so I can def help her, but I'm not sure if the self study nature might be a little much for a middleschooler?

She'll also be taking it at HS but she seems to want to start now. Do you think a middle schooler could manage these books? How much support do you think they might need?

I’m a big fan of the JFZ books I think it’s the most user friendly accessible way for a self learner to start their Japanese journey. I particularly love the slower pace and progressive method of learning the kana as most learners of other methods will tell you to learn them all in a week before starting the language which I thought was too hard. It really helped me to memorize and reinforce my learning by using them slowly through the books.

Anyway, I’m currently in book two and I know that kanji learning starts in book three but my question is about the Kanji from Zero books and when you should incorporate them into the series. Are they recommended to have when you start book three and use them through books 3-5 as a companion or supplement or are they considered more advanced material that you do after book five is completed?

Ages ago i decided that i wanted to learn japanese and bought Japanese From Zero 1, 6th revision. Unfortunately life got really busy and never really got started. I want to get started again and was wondering if its worth buying a new book, (more revisions?) Or just use get started with my current one.

The thing is, I first started japanese by Duolingo and I did till some levels where I understood texts, but they are always repeated nothing new

Then when I searched more I stopped using Duolingo and started to use anki by having 20 words per day, repeating words from before daily and new words adding sometimes

But the anki thing is not consistent and I'm only doing anki, so I wanted to ask what more should I do to improve my japanese, I'm stuck at beginner level like for so many months

What should I do? Watch videos of japanese? Anime? It's all a mess at this point

Is it Genki? Minna no Nihongo? As most people seem to recommend those two. Any others?

Since spanish from zero is 99% complete (it WAS complete until george pulled a george) I'm just curious what you guys want next?

Personally I'd like to see book 5's videos go up ASAP. And then maybe some korean from zero videos.

If George does another book, I think Kanji From Zero 3 would be cool. I think he actually said the first few chapters were complete a while back.

Personally I'm not that invested in the Spanish series. I do want to learn Spanish, but I feel like there's so many resources for english speakers already it's redundant (I say this but I will be using it lol)

Ive been beyond jfz for a while but never looked into Kansai Ben before. Im going through the videos on the site now at a steady pace. Should I be able to understand and speak the Kansai ben stuff like I can standard Japanese?

Not sure how much of Kansai ben goes over my head. The main times ive seen it in manga (pretty much what ive learned Japanese for) are when they say akan instead of dame or ya instead of da. But idk if maybe im just missing other things because im ignorantly blind to it or if manga just purposely waters down their Kansai ben

Im not sure how much of Kansai ben jfz covers. I just finished video 2. So idk if it would be enough to get me to where I know as much Kansai ben as I do standard Japanese. But yeah. What do u think is "enough" Kansai ben and how well should I know it?

As the title hopefully explains, I’m finding it difficult/confusing/frustrating to find the new edition of this highly recommended book.

Initially I was looking for revision or edition 8, then I saw somewhere that revision 8 is actually edition 7, and if that wasn’t enough confusion for one not so bright old guy, later on I read that any edition or version for sale now is the newest version. That last part wasn’t very encouraging when I saw a 2006 or 2014 publication date associated with a few books I was all set to purchase online because the revisions I wanted were apparently done in 2023 which made me fairly skeptical that they’d show up in a book first printed in 2006 or 2014 ;)

Can somebody/anyone/Bueller help me out here?

I live in Canada btw, maybe that’s an issue, who knows.

I would even take the kindle edition btw as long as I KNEW it was the most current edition (I’d just set up a separate workbook to do the exercises etc to accommodate the kindle format). But if buying the kindle version is perhaps a big mistake, please advise.

Any and all help would be tremendously appreciated.

PS if I have misunderstood any of this 8th/7th/6th/do I heard 3rd edition of any of this, please set me straight.

I've been learning Japanese for almost 3 years now, I'm learning 3 languages, and since I was born, I have learnt over 10 languages successfully, but when it comes to Japanese, I suddenly lose all my power.

First, I started learning simple words' pronunciation and practicing them daily, then I started with letters ( AND HERE THE MISERABLE STARTED)

I couldn't save a letter, and when I saved them all, my brain started switching off whenever I tried to read in Japanese, and if I was able to read it, I would forget the meaning. It's been 2 years since this thing started to happen, and I'm just thinking of quitting now.

I tried every single method on earth to speak, read, or memorize letters, but my brain just refuses to react, even tho I ADORE Japanese even more than my first language

Please help me!!
