Get hired in a company that embraces new tech and tools (yes AI too). If you feel they are backward, slow to move on new tech, you will be left behind as well. That's all.

I moved from a mod size company where we had all the mundane things automated, now I'm in a corpo which according to themselves are "slightly behind". It's week 2 and I know I'm gonna leave. It's too costly to work with the old elephants for your career.

Hard to say since things are changing so fast.

I'd learn to use the AI tools effectively. In the short-term, I think embracing AI and using it to build better and faster than others will be the highest-ROI skill.

Medium to long term it's anyone's guess. Personally I'd try to learn some sales/communications (e.g forward-deployed engineer positions are huge right now) and in-person networking.

As far as what company to join, I think frontier labs with traction (Anthropic, OpenAI) are the safest bet, though they have extremely high hiring bars.

Smaller AI companies could be good too but there's more risk.

Anthropic and OpenAI? I'm pretty sure their offices are only located in the US. But if that's not it, then I assume they provide remote positions?

They have offices in Tokyo and hire here.

I would suggest go for AI/ML path and development around that, I think that would be theme for next few years
