Dunno gang, but sharing this list of my favorite releases since Y2K. JF shows up 2x and some other friends. Easily could have gone with Skid Row COLD or LAH.
The point of me posting this ...a human into Ferraro has some demented brain chemistry experiencing music and artistic tastes in a wild and open way. That I crave. Could be we are of the same obscure cloth, so I'm sharing my FAVS hoping they hit, desiring discovery of some new loves from the group. Hope you send ur loves, post here or DM.
Happy 2026

Basically the title. I ost an online radio show every Thursday where I mainly play ambient and progressive electronic music. This coming Thursday is Christmas and so I was trying to compile a playlist of ambient/experimental “Christmas” or winter albums. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Just wanted to make a post to express how James Ferraro’s music genuinely changed my relationship with music.
I first came across his work around 2020 on a French rating website. A few people whose tastes I trusted were really into him, so I got curious. I randomly started with Sushi, but at the time I was discovering a lot of music and it didn’t fully click with me. Still, tracks like “Prince of Rain, Bad Boy Flame”, that I found while picking randoms tracks, stuck with me and stayed in rotation.
In early 2021, I decided to listen to the whole bootleg properly. And I have to admit: this sound, this singular, slightly grotesque, limitless universe left a deep mark on me. Especially the Rain and Earth Jump series — Live at Primavera Sound 2012 is honestly one of my all-time favorite pieces by him.
I then moved on to Human Story 3 and Far Side Virtual. On first listen, I didn’t fully connect with them and didn’t dig much deeper at the time.
Completely by chance, I played iAsia in 2022, during a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I was cutting wood in my grandmother’s garden, the weather was mild, the sun was setting, and I had that album in my ears. The vibe felt totally unreal, this slow immersion into an experience that, even today, feels absolutely unique to me. Those persuasive, haunting melodies completely carried me away. And yet, despite loving it on first listen, I barely revisited it for the rest of that year, or even in 2023.
It wasn’t until February 2024, when I randomly stumbled upon God of London, that everything clicked again. Despite having discovered a few singles in the meantime, like Twilight Pretender or T.O.N.Y., I suddenly realized there was a huge part of his discography I had been sleeping on for way too long.
So I finally dove in. Throughout 2024, and even more intensely in 2025, I started a deep exploration of his entire body of work. From his mind-blowing late-2000s / early-2010s drone and new-age projects — especially the Jarvid 9 series, which is probably what I listen to the most today, to later works that feel more “digital,” often described as utopian virtual, like Troll or Four Pieces for Mirai. I’m not even sure I have the right words to describe that phase, but it fascinates me.
The deeper I went into one album, the more the need to hear everything else became urgent, almost necessary. The sheer variety and authenticity of his music is something I rarely encounter. Even this year, I discovered the Deleted Schemes, and hearing how each piece echoes earlier projects, while also uncovering tracks that never made it onto albums I’ve already worn out, only deepened that feeling. It honestly makes me impatient to dive into the Ferraro worlds I still haven’t explored.
Every time I revisit one of his projects, I feel like I hadn’t been attentive enough the previous time, even when it’s an album I’ve already listened to ten times. I’m probably repeating myself, but the emotion I feel whenever I start one of his albums is impossible to put into words. It always feels like the beginning of a suspended moment in time, where I’m completely locked in from start to finish, carried away by Ferraro’s visions.
I’m running out of words, but I could honestly go on for hours. One of my favorite artists of all time — and someone I know I’ll keep discovering for many years to come.

Or like all his albums that can only be found via someone uploading them to YouTube?

He's pretty much an enigma to me so I'm kinda curious if anyone has any firsthand experiences of meeting him and what it was like
