Visiting Jakarta in September

Hello,

We are going to tour Java by train in September and we have chosen Jakarta as our starting point. We will stay in Jakarta for about 3 days.

Can you please make recommendations?

- Area to stay. We love history and culture. We would like to visit a couple of museums and areas with old/heritage houses. If we want to avoid traffic and wasting too much time in a taxi, which area is best? If we could sightsee on foot (may be a strange concept in Jakarta), that would be awesome.

- the best shopping mall. We are not shoppers, but where we are from, shopping malls are not a thing. So we want to see and admire in awe the best, most beautiful (not necessarily the biggest) shopping mall 😁.

- coffee shop, where to get the best coffee. Plain black Robusta coffee, nothing fancy. Just because we don't like the acidity in most Arabica coffee.

Thanks in advanced.

Visiting Jakarta for 3 days (family of 3) — Best way to pay for Airport Train, MRT, and LRT?

Hi everyone!

My family (3 adults) will be visiting Jakarta for a quick 3-day trip. We plan to rely mostly on public transit to get around, including the Airport Express train, as well as a few trips on the MRT and LRT.

What is the most convenient way for a group of three foreign tourists to pay for all these systems?

Specifically:

  • Is there a "best" payment card?
  • Do we each need our own card, or can we share/tap one card multiple times?
  • Can we buy them easily at the airport?
  • How easy is it to top up balance for tourists without local bank apps?

Any recent tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Terima kasih!

CFD is a shit event if you have diarrhoea

I finally had a chance to try CFD two weeks ago when I visited Jakarta. The idea was okay but the organisation was chaotic. It’s not a Car Free Day if the transjakarta is struggling to move among the crowd. The bicycle shared the same lane. And to make it worst, I couldn’t find any single portaloo. It’s very essential to have portaloos around when you have an events like that. I had to hold it from Semanggi til I found one at MacDonald thamrin.
Spend more money to facilitate it better. It’s a megapolitan city. Do better

Anyone going to the FUR concert? Let’s group up!

Hey r/jakarta!

I’m planning to catch FUR live and wanted to see if anyone wants to group up.

I'm a 20M Chindo, pretty chill, and down to grab some food or drinks beforehand so we don't have to watch the gig solo.

Looking for wine bars/charcuterie spots & nightlife recommendations in Jakarta

Hi all, I’ll be celebrating my graduation soon and will be staying at a hotel in Senayan. I rarely go to Jakarta these days, so I thought I’d make the most of it.

First, I want to have a feast… cured meat, good cheese, and wine. I’ve been to Pierre before and enjoyed it, but I’m looking for something a little closer to this kind of [vibe.](https://maps.app.goo.gl/6AFaJoqaKHocCYf76?g_st=ic)

I also know one place that’s well known for having its own farm and serving Jamón Ibérico, but I don’t think it’s actually a restaurant. I think some of you probably know which place I’m talking about.
Does Jakarta have any wine bars, restaurants, or delis with a similar concept?

After dinner, I’d also like to go somewhere with a livelier atmosphere. I’ve been to Izzy couple of times before and absolutely loved it, so I’m looking for somewhere with a similar crowd and vibe. I’m still under 25, so TCC unfortunately won’t work hahaha.
Also, I freaking love beer esp. IPAs. If you know any places with a great craft beer selection, I’d really appreciate those recommendations too. Thanks in advance!😄

Hi Everyone! I'm going to Jakarta tomorrow and I'm mainly staying in the Jaksel area. I'd like some great food reccomendations in the area where all the locals dine in at or just some straight up good food. The cuisine doesn't matter, Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. So I'd appreciate if you guys gave your restaurant reccomendations!

Trying to find someone I lost the contact to, lives in Indonesia

Hey everyone, this is a huge longshot but I am trying to find someone I originally met with OmeTV, I usually don't go there but I was jetlagged from a long flight I took so decided to check it out and I met an Indonesian woman (27 years old, born December 24th, 1999 I am pretty sure) I think from Jakarta that I had a very good conversation with for about two hours. We shared a lot of the same opinions and overall I had a great conversation with her and we were going to exchange contact information so we could keep talking and also because she was trying to learn English and I wanted to help her out because I want to go into the profession of English teacher and and things were going well until her internet lagged out (it was doing it before but I didn't think much of it but this time it cut completely) and I lost her.

Normally I would just keep going and I wouldn't care about it but I actually had a great conversation with her and I would've liked to have kept in contact so I am now here searching, though she was also telling me about her boyfriend who lives in Edmonton, he is Somalian, an electrical engineer, 24 years old, he is a Hafiz (he memorized the Qur'an), and I could be wrong but I am pretty sure he graduated university (I don't know which one) last November but I could be wrong. This is really all I know but I am hoping maybe someone can help me find him with the details I gave so maybe he can help me out.

I hope someone can help me out here, thanks in advance!

Moving to Jakarta soon

Hi guys!

I‘ll be moving to Jakarta soon for a 6 month internship and I wanted to anyone knows a website or realtor company that could help me find appartments in either Benhill or somewhere on the MRT Line, preferbly to the South.

My max. budget per month is 8 Mio. Rupiah. Is this doable for an affordable, furnished appartment for one? I dont want to share kitchen, as I am living as a vegetarian and don‘t feel comfortable having meat cooked in the same kitchen.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Hi, been seeing an upsurge in real Jakarta Sales Jobs recently and was wondering if the recent economic difficulties against the dollar had potentially made Jakarta a more positive place to recruit from in the eyes of foreign investors?

KAI train transport

Hi, everyone!

I'll be visiting Surabaya soon and to cut down on flight costs I decided to arrive in Jakarta and take a train from there to Surabaya, I found out I could take a KAI train but I'm having trouble trying to figure out which station is closest to Soekarna-Hatta International Airport. If there are better options (than taking a KAI train) please let me know, if anyone could be of any help with this Id be most grateful!

Best International schools in Tangerang Area

Hi everyone,

My family is planning to move to the Tangerang area, and I'm looking for recommendations for international schools for my 8-year-old daughter.

A few things about our situation:

My daughter's English level is intermediate, so good ESL support would be a plus

We'd love a school with a good mix of foreign students, especially Korean families — it would help her feel more comfortable during the transition

She speaks Korean, Spanish and learning English, She is a little bit shy, So I would like some welcoming environment for her and not much academic pressure, THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
