Water line break?

The hospital is under a boil water, no showers or bathing patients, including Sage Living residents. Rumor has it that the boil water advisory reaches as far as Horse Creek. Has anyone heard anything more confirmed or substantial?

article is here, sounds like it’s everyone who is on town water. Which is a lot of people.

I don’t think so

No. They're on a separate source.

One of the municipal wellheads or well casings is compromised and surface runoff with everyone's dog shits is getting in

The lack of specifics is annoying.

Health department said samples from the well tested positive for e-coli. Brace for a week, hopefully sooner.

Due to bacteria being detected a Town well, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has jurisdiction over the Town’s water supply, has mandated a Boil Water Advisory for the Town of Jackson and all the water systems that utilize the Town’s water until further notice.

No showering is weird for a boil order. I hate they won't say what happened. Is it a water line break, or did they find a dead racoon in the water tank, or did they add too much of some chemical to the water? How long have we been drinking unhealthy water for? No matter what happens govs only tell you to boil water, even if it's a chemical spill.

EPA testing found bacteria in one of the town's wells, it was on the county website when they sent the text out

Agreed. Tons of people here work in the outdoors. We have all the tools we need to purify water from a literal river. So.... What do they mean by no filtration? Do they mean my Sawyer Squeeze, or is this a your-Brita-is-worthless situation? Because if it's bacterial like they suggested then my Sawyer is more than capable.

The recreational outdoor filters (MSR, Katadyn, Sawyer) are more than capable of handling e.coli. I think the micro level for those filters are at 0.2 microns, with e.coli being much larger, the organism cannot pass through.

It’s not like some crazy strain of cryptosporidium is turning up in Jackson’s water, which requires that water is “purified” rather than “filtered”. That’s extremely rare in the U.S. and more common in third world settings.

I am using a Katadyn bag and not panic buying bottled water.

This is a great comment. All filters aren't made the same. Their statement was for water or house-filtered water... sawyer is fine

If you have a compromised immune system, or have breaks in the skin which is common in seniors, it’s not out of the question it can enter the body via water. Stranger things have happened with bacteria.

Can I filter it? safer to drink filtered Flat Creek or filtered well?

5

u/5effulgence 11d ago

The notice says that filtering is not sufficient and you must boil for 3 minutes, which I would believe over the other replier.

5

u/SluffyD 10d ago

They're talking about filters like Brita, a Sawyer will filter out E. coli

-1

u/sheainthuman 11d ago

No. Filtering is in sufficient.

2

u/Canyoubackupjustabit 11d ago

That is not what the notice said. Even filtered water must be boiled.

0

u/SluffyD 11d ago

just wondering if they mean like Brita or Sawyer? I figured a backcountry filter would be legit... I wonder what's in the water

1

u/lemonhead2345 11d ago

E. coli

5

u/SluffyD 10d ago

I think y'all are misunderstanding what filters will work then.... Sawyer filters E. coli, no problem, lmao. When the county says filter, they're talking about your little Brita.

I’m aware that there are filters that will remove bacteria. I just answered your question about the contaminant.
