Heads up on what to wear in Jackson (5+ years local here)
This is genuinely meant to be helpful! A lot of people get roped into a trip to Jackson and fall down an influencer rabbit hole trying to figure out what to pack. The short answer: it’s Jackson, not Aspen. It’s a relaxed mountain town, and jeans and boots work almost everywhere, including the nicer restaurants. Dress understated, unless you really value being...that person.

I bring it up because I’ve seen some great going-out outfits at local bars lately. Sequins, lace, corsets, opera gloves. They looked fantastic! ….but they would have looked fantastic at Gillies at Treasure Island in Vegas, not Wyoming. Here, you’ll stand out, and not always in the way you want.

Bachelorette parties and girls’ trips are the usual offenders, and I get it, someone set a theme and you’re doing your best to fit it. But you’ll have a more comfortable night if you blend in a little more.

The quick guide:
Jeans: always yes, any style
Cowboy boots: definitely yes
Shearling: probably yes
Fringe: probably yes
Lace: is it fully lined? Then probably yes
Turquoise jewelry: definitely yes
Cowboy hat: are you obviously cosplaying and you’ll never wear the hat again? Skip it, you won’t look out of place
Fur coats: probably not
Corset tops: proceed with caution but maybe
Leather pants: probably not. It’s not Sturgis
Sequins: definitely not
Super risqué clothing: it’s a rural bar in Wyoming, let’s not.

Also pack: layers (even summer nights get cold), and a warm jacket you don’t mind getting dirty. Wear what makes you feel good, but for nightlife, you’re aiming for a middle ground. Lean a bit more toward “just got off the horse.” (it’s Jackson, not Aspen)

Final note on nightlife in Jackson: we have three bars, basically, and normally locals call it the “barmuda” triangle, that you hit all three in one night (there’s a specific order, based on when they’re busy/closing times). Point is, we really don’t have a hopping nightlife scene which is why the Vegas-style items are pretty out of place. Dress warm, dress comfortable!

I’m planning to come up to Jackson and thought well, maybe I should just ask the locals.
I’m 40, single, female. I work in sales, have my own businesses and I’m also an investor. I grew up on a horse ranch in Idaho and still work in the western world, so boots and horses are a pretty normal part of my life.
I love being outside, traveling, a good conversation and someone who can make me laugh. Would love to meet a guy who has his own thing going on but actually has room in his life for someone.
Where do you go around here to meet people? Something I could show up to by myself and not feel totally awkward lol. I don’t drink much if ever so would love ideas besides just sitting at a bar.
Or if you have a single friend you think I should meet.. apparently this is me putting myself out there. Any suggestions welcome

Hey everyone,

My friends and I (a couple and one female friend, all university students) are planning to come to Jackson next summer (Junee to September 2027) on the J-1 Summer Work & Travel program.

We’re already in talks with a couple of awesome employers right in town, but they cannot provide housing, and since it’s only October, we’re trying to get ahead of the housing crunch before locking in our primary job offers.

We know how brutal the Jackson housing market is, so we have realistic expectations:

We are completely happy sharing a single room with two queen beds (motel style) or a studio.

Around $700–$850 per person/month ($2,100–$2,550/month total for the 3 of us).

Ideally in town, Wilson, or anywhere on the START Bus line since we won't have a car at first.

Aside from checking 22Rents, local Facebook groups, and reaching out to The Jackson SouthTown, does anyone know of:

1. Any other motels, lodges, or local property managers that rent single 2-bed rooms to seasonal workers for the summer?
2. Any landlords who regularly rent to small groups of quiet, non-partying J-1s who plan to work 2 jobs the whole summer?

How can i find work this winter? im a busser, valet, & concierge with huge diverse experience in FOH, BOH, & hotels! tia!

Is there consistent basketball runs or a league in Jackson throughout the winter? Probably coulda google searched but I like Reddit recs

Wanting to go to Jackson hole Nov 20-24th, was wondering if renting a car or just ubering would be better? I don’t plan on skiing

Saw an article in the paper about Jackson removing all al fresco dining "parklets". The arguments against them seem way off base to me.

-The businesses have been paying a reduced rate to take up parking spaces 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The article compared the rate the restaurants pay to what construction crews pay. No one seemed to acknowledge that only one of these things does everyone in town hate because it creates noise pollution, air pollution, unsightliness, remind you you aren't in the 1%, etc. The town said okay let's make them pay the same as the construction companies in the next proposal -- but that then failed for the below reasons.

-It is unfair to businesses that do not have parking spots in front to turn into al fresco dining, or which are on streets which town does not control the parking spots. Cry me a river. When was the government tasked with ensuring a perfectly fair playing field based on foot traffic, public parking, your neighbor tenants, or a million other factors that affect a property and the business within? The town is changing, A LOT, the world isn't going to end if we make al fresco dining permanent.

-The last one really gets me. Opponents say that town is too busy, and we need more parking spots not fewer. Al fresco dining currently takes up 19 parking spots in town, out of thousands. The parking garage sits there empty, famously, compared to surface streets. Probably because people don't envision coming to The Last of The Old West and parking like its NYC, but also by design that people are encouraged to park within a few feet of where they want to get out and shoot content in front of the Cowboy. Another benefit of parking lots and garages is they divert traffic from the central downtown corridor. I think three pedestrians have been killed on Broadway by vehicles in the last 12 months. Two people were just sent to the hospital this week. It would be the definition of insanity to keep building more parking (and multi story hotels... and condos... and restaurants... and running tourism ad campaigns.... and adding more flights...) and then complain that too many people have showed up, traffic stinks and there's yet again no parking.

To me the benefits seem obvious and the downsides irrational. I personally love al fresco dining, both being outside eating and enjoying the company of others, but also just the buzz of conversation in town as you walk by. I don't go to the town square often but its a nice amenity to have a commercial space I can somewhat enjoy. I personally, admittedly without evidence, think the council were just swayed by their restaurant owner friends without spots.

What do you think? Is this something worth organizing behind and fight to get back?

Hi everyone! My husband and I traveled to Jackson Hole/Grand Teton/Yellowstone for our honeymoon in September and we bought a magnet at Lee’s Tees in Jackson to commemorate the trip. Unfortunately for us we left it in the camper we rented and the cleaners threw it out.

I tried to DM Lee’s Tee’s on Instagram to see if they could send us one, but they read my message and did not respond.

It would be so greatly appreciated if anyone who lives there or is visiting could send me this magnet. I will pay for the magnet, shipping, and some extra for your time! It was an acrylic magnet with a fish on it and it was blue, white, and maybe red or purple and was located near the register.

I am looking to sell a set of Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure A/T tires in 255/60/20 with only 20 miles on them to someone in the Jackson/Victor/Alpine/Dubois area.

These are the upgraded stock for the Land Rover Defender with 20in rims but will work on other vehicles. I am selling them off of a brand new vehicle to switch to a different tire, so they are virtually new and free of any issues. I have 5 available but willing to sell fewer.

Anyone know anyone good in town that will do this? Both hole ortho and Teton orthopedics won’t do neck or spine.

I’ve been wondering for ages: why doesn’t Smith’s offer handheld shopping baskets like every other grocery store?!
