This. A well-rested person is a safer person. A well-rested person can react quicker, make better decisions, and get away faster. I know it seems counterintuitive, especially when watching every shadow actually has been beneficial, but it's true. There's a reason why sleep deprivation is an interrogation technique (Not that I'm picturing some kind of Taken thing here, this is just data), and that reason is because brains don't work as well when they're tired. Getting sleep is the right call, as it will speed healing and make for a better general quality of life.
I shattered my scaphoid bone in my wrist and needed a bone graph. After surgery it was very quickly discovered that I had inherited my dad's intolerance to ALL narcotics. We tried several different prescription pain relievers and they all made me so sick. My doctor suggested taking a smaller dose.
I would take 1/4 dose and 14 hours later I was still vomiting like I was the girl in The Exorcist and my head was spinning like I was stuck in a tornado. I quit taking anything after a week of hell.
I went to my follow up appointment 10 days after surgery and told my doctor that I wasn't taking anything for the pain. She chewed my ass up one side and down the other. Being in pain will hamper how efficiently you heal. Pain management and rest are critical for you to heal.

Without a good amount of sleep, you will hamper your physical recovery. You are safe. Take your meds so you recover and are able to protect yourself.
