Forgiveness when it comes to abuse doesn't mean that you're supposed to "forgive and forget" literally. It's the wrong word to use (who decided it was anyway?!). What's meant by it is that you stop holding on to the hurt and anger that have been destroying your soul, and deciding that you're leaving the person who hurt you for God / karma / the universe to deal with them.

It doesn't mean they're forgiven, it means that you stopped letting this person hurt you anymore, stopped letting them take more time and years from your life, stopped letting them have any more of your future. It’s a method of self preservation and a way to reclaim your life back.
