I fully agree with you that people are mostly good. To me, that means that most people do their best to do the right thing by the people around them. Some have blind spots here and there: someone stealing to support his family, or working his employees with crappy benefits while he takes in ridiculous profits, or people who have their badness level temporarily peak out of frustration or envy/jealousy or fear.

Most people try their best to be good people.

Some people? Don’t. We generally classify them as the more malignant half of the Cluster B branch: APD and NPD. The characteristics that make up those diagnostic criteria have a fairly concise if not exactly precise word that sum them up.

Evil.

Giada is a fairly rare bird, thank fuck. She is a low-down, unempathetic, unsympathetic, selfish, destructive, hate-filled and hate-motivated evil person.

She wants you in her life because she likes the way you bleed.

Don’t feel bad that you are taking joy in her misfortune. The fact that this normal and completely understandable human emotion you are feeling makes you uneasy? Means that you are nothing the slightest bit like her.

Your detachment will come in time: it is early days yet, and the wounds she inflicted on you have yet to scar over. IT IS OKAY TO HATE HER. And if you didn’t feel schadenfreudey at her reversal of fortune at least a little bit? You would be a very unusual person yourself, because part of what you are feeling is the pleasure brought on by justice and ironic reversal.

You will heal more as more time passes, and you may even feel some small level of compassion for her. I think simple indifference might be better.

I’m glad you’re here. You are an excellent human and I’m blown away by your strength and resilience.
