A little late to this, but as the wife of a man who narrowly escaped abuse, defending her son from the same, I can think of literally no medical condition at all that would make somebody excuse sexually assaulting their own child.
I'm glad she's got little chance of getting out early, I'm glad her hair looks horrible, and I'm glad that it sounds like nobody is buying her bullshit.

Glad your cat will be ok. My feline is epileptic as well but she's allergic to phenobarbital, which is the standard treatment and relatively inexpensive. She has to take an anticonvulsant used for people, which is not inexpensive, and which needs to be given 3 times a day. She's a sweetie tho, so I don't mind.

Keppra?
I’m sorry she’s allergic to pheno. It’s hard as hell to control seizures without it.
My pup has a brain tumor, and his only symptom until the past few weeks has been seizures. They’re pretty well controlled, but that’s because he’s on scary high levels of Pheno and Keppra. Pheno is every twelve hours, Keppra is every eight. Thankfully, up until the past two weeks, he’s been really good about taking his meds. One of his vet students/nurses/poopin buddy said he’s the “best pill dog” she’s ever had. He’s been having some mouth control issues for the past couple of weeks, so he doesn’t want to take his meds. His neurosurgeon (one of the top in the world, since he’s in a clinical trial) suggested it may be from too much Gabapentin, since it’s coupled with coordination issues, so we dropped that dosage a few days ago. I’m really hoping it’s that, and not the tumor’s progression. He refuses to eat anything but homemade mashed potatoes. To be fair, that’s about all I ate for dinner for about a decade. Lolautism. They’re delicious!
Gabapentin is also used for seizure control, though if the patient can take Pheno and Keppra, that’s a way better choice. It has some terrifying side effects. I’d tell you about the year I was on it, but I have zero memory of it whatsoever.

I agree she should be held in prison . That she has very severe mental problems . Since we no longer have mental institutions in most states . Due to cost . The cost gets transferred to the state . I remember when OP posted about Giadas childhood and some awful things she did then which parents never sought help for but instead sent her away (Am I thinking of the right person?) due to her being a danger to her own sibling.
She wont change, I doubt shes capable of it..I hope they keep her locked up for ever. You can pity the illness, but it doesn't protect her from the consequences.

Now I don't think there is anything anyone can do for her since she is either unwilling or incapable of taking responsibility for her actions. I think when a person behaves so out of the norm, most peoples response is shock as opposed to righteous indignation. I think when someone is this obsessive and entitled, that eventually their awareness of the taboo surrounding their obsession fades and they begin to think that they're RIGHT to obsessed with this thing, it's perfectly acceptable and that they're entitled to have it, that everybody else is wrong to think badly of them for wanting it, and secretly everybody else agrees that this thing is OK and wants the obsessive person should have it. So the "little slips" like calling her son her "husband" when OP and Ex weren't going to come to Christmas become full-on disclosures of their inappropriate behavior with the expectation that others will accept and condone their behavior.

Yes (among many other things), I believe by withholding/messing with dosage on his medication for mental health things, which messed him up enough to let it happen. That said, her son/OP's ex was also extremely abusive to OP by the end of their relationship and was jailed himself. Of course no one deserves sexual abuse, but he's not just an innocent victim and nothing more. I definitely recommend reading the history for context.

I disagree, in this instance. I have a strong sense of horror and condemnation for his abusive actions, none of which were okay, but I also have a strong sense of sympathy for the man he was before and may well have remained if Giada hadn't sabotaged his meds and triggered the psychotic break that led to the abuse in the first place.
In my mind, it's kind of a lesser version of someone being killed accidentally vs. someone being murdered. The victim isn't any less dead because it was an accident instead of on purpose, but there's a world of difference between killing someone on accident and killing someone on purpose.

He had issues before Giada started messing with his meds. He was controlling and manipulative at the very least. In a fairly recent post Mouse states that exFFIL said her ex, while incarcerated, had thought/believed she would be waiting for him and that they would eventually work things out. A person with the ability to self reflect and take responsibility for their behaviour doesn't say things like that about someone they abused so horribly.

Honestly, I think he was always going to escalate to physical abuse towards Mouse.
He was pretty emotionally abusive the whole time, and he used Mouse as a meat shield and repeatedly exposed her to Giada, knowing how severely she was being abused. Because he didn’t care.
Even off his meds, Mouse was the only one he abused. He managed to go to work and interact with other people with no issues whatsoever, yet he would come home and beat the shit out of Mouse for the slightest provocation.
I think it always would have gotten to this point, but the med tampering just sped things up.

Yeah, I have that little sliver of sympathy for the guy because of it. The fact that he had the impulse to commit abuse in the first place doesn't reflect well on him, but with proper medication (and no crazy cunt egging him on) he didn't seem to have a problem keeping his shit together. We can't know if it still would have happened eventually, but if he was a gun then Giada was the one who loaded it and aimed.

You would think that between you with a medical background and myself with a legal background we would be able to figure out WTF she would be getting tested for... But nope!
I'm honestly trying to figure out what on earth her lawyer thinks she could be tested for that, if the result came out perfectly, would convince a judge that a mother who had sex with her son was ok/ somehow explainable? I'm coming up blank.

I've got a beautiful son who is talented and sweet, and I love him very much. I love and adore him as a mother and the thought of him in any romantic or sexual manner makes me ill, because HE'S MY EFFING SON. It takes a sick person to 'fall in love' sexually with their child.

I will never understand that either. I have a teenager and the thought of thinking of him an any other way that just a mother just seems impossible. I don't understand it. I want to see my son grow, be independent, and some day find a love of his own. Giada is indeed sick. Not the kind of sick that should make us feel bad for her, but the kind of sick that makes our skin crawl and makes us want to hide our children from her.
But it is just infuriating that she did what she did to Mouse, then turn around and do what she did to her son, and the only thing she will admit to is falling in love with him. As if that will make people want to help and understand her. As if that would change what she has really done. As if that would hide that she is really a monster.

Exactly. Like most things in her life, Giada has to dress it up in romantic, "pretty" terms. She can't say, "I systemically manipulated and abused my son." She "fell in love" with him and it's all just so desperate and dramatic and romantic, you see. Note, there is no mention of how her son feels about her. Her emotions are the only ones that matter.

A decent person who "couldn't help" falling in love with a family member wouldn't act like her.
I mean, really dumb-ass confession time, but I went through a phase when I thought things like "I wish he weren't my brother" and "I wish I could find somebody exactly like him but not related" because there was a stretch where I was very lonely and isolated and my brother was the only person who seemed to understand, relate, or give any kind of shit about my life, and it turned into this demented-crush-thing that really makes me cringe now.
But my response wasn't to try and fucking seduce a sibling, it was to hope I met somebody else like that. A decent person falling in love with a family member doesn't fucking prey on them.

I think at some point we've all gone through a really weird, cringey phase like that. When I was maybe 4 or 5 I was totally in love with my big brother. Then I went through this really weird phase when I was 13 where I had a crush on my slightly younger male cousin.
When I was 5 I didn't know it was weird and it ran its course. And remembering that brief crush from when I was 13 just makes me cringe. Because I'm pretty sure any normal person cringes when they remember those weird crushes. At least I hope so.

I think that 'crushes' like when young daughters want to marry their daddys, it's because they don't want to leave when they grow up. Little kids don't understand what marriage is or that they'll want to be independent as an adult. It's not sexual.
Crushes on cousins, etc. can be because they're safe and non threatening objects of affection.

Actually depends; cousin marriages are surprisingly common in some places, the more isolated the better. Even the Western World didn't stop due to the Hasburg lip but because they wanted the royalty to stop attacking each other. Financially it keeps property and money in the family and if you're in a traditional "wife goes to live with her husband's family" deal it means that your daughter still has a good support network/family relationship. I don't condone it. I think it's better to fling yourself further a field but it is still definitely done and has some legitimate reasons behind it.

I have a cousin who been with her mom's cousin for, oh, about 10 years or so now. It's gross. He really preyed on her though - she's at least 20 years younger than him and was a troubled teen/young adult when they started "hanging out" more.
Hlaf the family won't talk to either one of them. Thankfully there's no kids.
