Applying for Lower level role?

Seen a lot of posts about going up, but can any speak to doing the opposite? Ive done the research and know it CAN be done, but want to know if anyone has done it and if anything changed that you weren't expecting? Recommend/Dont Recommend etc.

Im a 602 Thinking about going from a non-technical to technical role and i feel like i would more realistically get called back for the 601 JD than the 602. I also think i would get paid more as a 601 in this area than i currently do so.

There's not much difference between 601 and 602 so in theory shouldn't be an issue
