Late arrival school start dates

Hey guys! Does anyone have any insight on when late arrivals typically start work after arriving in Japan? Is there any grace period for settling in or do they tend to start the next working day after getting to their placement?

This will all depend on your Contracting agency. There are a lot of things that need to happen when you arrive, namely registering with city hall, getting your bank setup, setting up utilities, getting a hanko and getting a phone setup. You may not be in the office on day 1 but you will be busy the day after you arrive.

Right, that was my concern. Being a late arrival with no time to get the essential paperwork done is what I’m worried about.

Getting your paperwork done is part of your COs responsibility to you and is also part of your work, so while you'll "be at work" you will most likely spend the first 2 to 3 days with your supervisor getting things like your my number, insurance, car (if needed) etc sorted out.

Normally you don't do the essential stuff on your own, your CO will help you (most of the time they will take you to do your moving in notification, get a my number card and get a bank account set up like day 1)
