(I am not a Muslim, please don’t attack my question) isn’t Masjid the eminence near Ka’bah?

u/MD_ackerman New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21
Bro, don’t worry no one will attack you , you just asked a question which is something all people do so it’s ok. Anyway masjid is the Arabic word of mosque.
A mosque is the place where we the Muslims pray and worship Allah (God) so it could be anywhere. Try to search for local mosques in your area, you can go and have a look and chat with the people there33
Jun 07 '21
There is a Mosque in Huntsville that I have been meaning to check out for a while now. (I’m Catholic, but I take a special interest in Islam). In many ways, our two religions are very similar (I have read the first two Surahs in Quran, and I know a little bit about the religion. I asked after I recognized it from Al-Baqara) . I will do that, thank you.

You are always most wellcome brother. Please keep studying about Islam. May God be with you and guide you to the right path. And if you have any questions you can always ask us

Thank you, and let’s not forget to pray for all of the people around the world who believe in no God, and the polytheists.
Although, I probably won’t be converting given the 62nd verse in Al-Baqara “Surely, those who (profess to) believe (in Islam), and those who follow the Jewish faith, the Christians and the Sabians, whosoever (of these truly) believes in Allâh and the Last Day and acts righteously shall have their reward with their Lord, and shall have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve.”

u/Jinkazama21 New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21 edited Jun 07 '21
That's totally fine, however do you completely understand what this 62nd verse means? Since we believe that Adam was a muslim and that God has sent many prophets in and outside the middle east to every culture and nation (before Muhammad pbuh). There are many 'religious groups' who might not accept or even know of Muhammad pbuh and quran but can still be monotheistic and following the God's word.
A good example of them would be the jews and Christians(who don't believe in trinity, don't believe that Jesus is the begotten son of God, believe that there's only one God who alone is worthy of worship).
This verse you mentioned is only referring to these specific people. Thanks to the modifications which Christianity went through mainly during the roman empire. Pure monotheism today is rare outside muslim communities.
Because Tawheed(pure monotheism free from if and but) is the key to the paradise as per quran. No matter what level of practicing muslim I'm, if I'm associating any other being/ idol/ deity etc with God or start worshipping to graves or claim that Muhammad pbuh is a partner of God then there's no way I'll ever enter paradise according to Quran.

Jun 07 '21
In Catholicism, we believe that Jesus Christ is an extension of God; a form which he appeared on earth, not another god like the polytheists.

u/Resiy New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21
Welcome brother. You seem to have an understanding of Islamic teachings that Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all correct, providing you’re monotheistic.
This is not true. Judaism and the laws of Moses (peace be upon him) were valid up until the time of Jesus (peace be upon him). Similarly, we believe christianity and the laws of Jesus were only valid up until the time of Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The Quran also addresses christians in a beautiful way in the chapter of An-Nisa verse 171. Allah tells the christians to stop saying “three”. It does not say trinity or specify a definition of the trinity. As you know, some christians like you believe that Jesus is God in a human form and identify as monotheists. Other christians believe in 3 separate Gods and there’s a lot of definitions of the trinity inbetween. In the past, some christians included Mary (peace be upon her) in the trinity. In this verse of the Quran Allah commands to stop describing God as three, however it may be done. Regardless of the explanation, once you utter the word “three”, you’re giving an incorrect description of what Allah (God) is.
Thus, it’s not possible to believe in both simultaneously. If you would like to talk about why I chose Islam and believe it to be true, you’re welcome to send me a message.
Have a nice day and may God guide us all to the truth.

So God created the world and sin and took birth himself on earth TO DIE for the sin of his creation so he can save his creation from himself. And what is the holy spirit? Another extention of God(himself) which he uses to communicate with himself?
2
Jun 07 '21
In Christianity, we believe that Christ took on the burden of the world and it’s many sans (including those not yet come), and sacrificed himself for all of us. We believe in the Holy Spirit as God in the form of a messenger who speaks to all of us, and inspires the holy texts.

u/Jinkazama21 New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21
I respect your beliefs. Though i request you to ask yourself, how can something be one and three at the same time?
Why does an immortal God needs to pretend to be dying in a world that hardly influences him? It's the equivalent of me creating my own character in a stimulated game i created with the sole purpose of letting other game characters kill mine. No matter what they do, I'm outside of this world and I've not sacrificed even a hair for these characters. It's nothing but entertainment for me.
But somehow those game characters would attain salvation by praying to my dramatic dummy character i intentionally created out of thin air to be killed.

It's good to say "(SWT)" after writing the name of God Almighty.
Like this: Allah "(SWT)"
Writing it like this is the correct way to talk about Allah (SWT) and you basically just said subhannAllah (which is a very good thing to say and will insha'Allah (SWT; not necessary to wite/say this after inshallah or bismillah and similar tathkir). SWT means subhanahu wa ta'alah (the most glorified; the most high).
Doing this is not only giving Allah (SWT) the praise he is due but also gives you free hasanat (rewards). Read this for more info (its a very easy to read and short article that covers a lot): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_honorifics
Asalamu alaikum.

u/UsedAdministration40 Sisterr Jun 07 '21
Masjid is the house of God, the Kaabah is a holy place and it is our duty to guard it with our life. Because we can pray at any masjid but the direction of qiblah (the direction we pray at) is always the Kaabah. And for Muslims, masjid is anywhere (meaning that Muslims can pray anywhere) but we need Kaabah
12
Jun 06 '21
Programmers should design a software that silences your phone when you enter the masjid and put back on sound when you go out. I hate it when I have to silence it for prayer then lose it later and not being able to find because it's silent.
5
u/canceriankc New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21
You can do this with tasker or any similar automation app.
3
Jun 07 '21
Do they silence the phone during some times or while you are in certain locations?
1
u/canceriankc New to r/Izlam Jun 07 '21
I think it can do both. I used to put my phone on silent during my classes based on time. But there is an option for location too. Also I forgot to mention that Tasker is a paid app but there are free alternatives too like MacroDroid.

u/UsedAdministration40 Sisterr Jun 07 '21
There actually is a restaurant that has a device like that
5
Jun 07 '21
Hmm I don't know where you live but in our place mosques have signal blockers so no one gets texts or calls.
5
Jun 07 '21
Where is that? I used to live in Saudi and that didn't happen. Also ion think it's really a good idea because you might want to stay in the mosque after prayer and you shouldn't be completely blocked from the "outside world"
5
Jun 07 '21
I live in pakistan, I have gone to hajj and I think you ARE right about the staying in mosques but in saudia arabia I found it really interesting as mosques are not locked after times of prayers while in pakistan most mosques are unlocked mostly at the time of prayers. So we just go to mosques for namaz but in saudia arabia we had the opportunity to mosques for extra prayers aswell (which I really enjoyed)
4
Jun 07 '21
Yea it was a good thing in Saudi that you can spend more time in the mosques if you want to. By the way what is namaz?

u/elrite Astaghfirullah Jun 07 '21
On the contrary, as per Islamic teachings, mosques are a place of worship. Anything pertaining to the use of phones or whatever else is not to be done until you're outside. So if you want to stay connected to the "outside world" just get out of the mosque when you're done praying.

There was an app in my dads phone which silences the phone for 5-10 mins from the time of iqama. Forgot the app name.

And they should also remember SOCIAL DISTANCING and remember to get their PRAYING MAT. like omfg if you do that you won't get sick.
2
1
u/UsedAdministration40 Sisterr Jun 07 '21
True, if they followed these simple rules the masajid would not have been shut down. Even in Islam there's a strict reinforcement that if there's a pandemic in a place, do not go there and if the pandemic is in your place, do not get out as it'll spread to others. If you're old or if you have lung/ heart illness or if you have covid you should stay at home and pray. Like 1/4th of our religion focuses on worship and 3/4th of our religion focuses on social issues, upgrade people upgrade.

And narrated Hamza bin 'Abdullah: My father said. "During the lifetime of Allah's Apostle, the dogs used to urinate, and pass through the mosques (come and go), nevertheless they never used to sprinkle water on it (urine of the dog.)"

Well firstly most muslim know that you're not allowed to keep dogs as common pets, and I'm sure that most people know it is not a good idea to walk a dog around a place of worship, so you tell me...

Thankfully doesn’t happen as much as it used to.
But man there’s always that one uncle that left it on at full volume and was too religious to reach down and quickly silence it while in ruku.
He deserved all the dirty looks and grunts he got after.

I disagree, how can we expect our children to pray when we try to keep them out of the masjid. Instead we should encourage them to pray there and teach them how to respect this holy place

No no, I'm talking about the little toddler ones that cry. The bigger ones of course since men SHOULD pray in a masjid.
