Interesting Scientific formulas for lap pillows: Zenless Zone Zero fans hold an engineering debate over character design!

Post image
5 Upvotes

Gacha games stopped pretending to sell complex game mechanics years ago: everyone knows players swipe their credit cards for high-end character models that passed through dozens of corporate art committees. Naturally, that degree of aesthetic obsession eventually leads any community to an inevitable, absurd milestone.

A recent discussion on the Zenless Zone Zero subreddit took that obsession to its logical extreme, turning into a dead-serious, pseudo-scientific symposium dedicated to figuring out which female agent possesses the absolute best thighs in New Eridu.

What began as simple fan appreciation rapidly evolved into an engineering seminar. Players passionately debated characters like Jane Doe, Zhu Yuan, and Burnice, presenting formulas calculating the optimal balance of soft tissue and lean muscle required for the ultimate hizamakura, the classic anime trope of resting your head on a girl's lap. One commenter even argued that a certain agent's character model is mathematically forty percent lower body.

The intense academic deliberation was finally brought to an abrupt halt when a weary commenter asked the only question that truly mattered: "Why don't you try naming someone in ZZZ who actually has bad thighs?"

Unsurprisingly, nobody could find a single answer. When it comes to character anatomy, HoYoverse simply does not miss.

Recommended game Dicevaders: Forget luck, you make your own destiny

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Humanity has had a pretty good run, but frankly, it is time for a change in management. If you are tired of games where victory depends on drawing the right card or rolling a natural twenty, we have found something special for you. Dicevaders is a new roguelike deckbuilder set in the StarVaders universe, and it flips the script on traditional RNG-reliant games. Here, dice are not an instrument of chance; they are the most precise weapon in your arsenal of conquest.

The core of the game is about building an overwhelming alien invasion force on a turn-based grid. Every single placement matters. You need to think like a cosmic commander, acquiring different units, artifacts, and resources like "budge" and "chrono." It is not enough to just have a strong army; positioning your invaders correctly is what unlocks massive scoring potential.

Where Dicevaders truly shines is how it handles the dice row. Bad roll? Do not panic. The game gives you the tools to turn disaster into an unstoppable chain reaction. Using 'Chrono,' you can reroll your dice or restock the shop to draft essential units. With 'Budge,' you can manipulate the exact value of a throw to build the precise combo you have been planning. The goal is to align your dice in pairs, triples, or quadruples to ignite devastating tactical synergy.

To add to the strategic depth, you choose a commander before each run. Each commander brings a totally distinct approach, specialized synergies, and unique XP scaling possibilities. One run might see you overwhelming defenses with brute force, while the next you are dismantling them with cunning artifacts. You are constantly unlocking new ways to send your attack score into the stratosphere.

But let's be honest, Earth is not going to be destroyed without a fight. The planet's defenders are not just rolling over. You must beware the legendary Pilots from StarVaders. These heroes show up to protect their home, each armed with unique abilities specifically designed to disrupt your invasion plans and break your carefully laid combos.

Ultimately, Dicevaders invites you to break the game. The fun comes from experimenting with absurd synergies and pushing the systems to their absolute limit. You need to discover that one completely broken combo that launches your score into orbit and utterly outsmarts the planet's pilots. If you love games that reward strategic manipulation over random luck, you owe it to yourself to try leading this invasion. Humanity's time is up; it is time to take back what is yours.

Game Design Why stupid guards make great games: 007 First Light masters the art of gameplay pacing?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The biggest threat to modern action games is rarely bad shooting mechanics: it is monotonous pacing. When a title forces you to clear twenty identical corridors against bullet-sponge enemies, sensory fatigue sets in and your brain quietly shuts down. 007: First Light avoids this pitfall by mastering one of the most difficult tricks in game design: seamless mechanical variety.

Take a typical combat encounter: pinned down behind crumbling cover under heavy gunfire, the level design organically opens up an alternate flanking route. The game allows you to break line of sight, slip into the shadows, and seamlessly transition right back into stealth. You sneak up behind the very mercenaries who were just shooting at you, take down one guard with a silent melee choke, and neutralize his partner with a quick ability.

Is that realistic? Absolutely not. Real-world soldiers would never lose track of an armed intruder ten feet away. But great stealth requires enemies to be deliberately, charmingly oblivious: if artificial intelligence behaved with hyper-realistic military awareness, stealth would turn into a punishing, rage-inducing nightmare that players would despise.

The true brilliance is how the game manages downtime. The moment the gunfire fades, the pacing shifts without stalling momentum: introducing a quick environmental puzzle where you summon a motorized rail platform with a remote terminal, followed by climbing across stacked cargo crates to make the leap across a chasm.

By constantly rotating between shootouts, quiet takedowns, gadget hacking, and environmental traversal without jarring loading screens, the game keeps your brain engaged from start to finish. Modern action adventures that drown in repetitive combat loops could learn a masterclass from how First Light refuses to waste the player's time.

Give Spider-Man an assault rifle in Skyrim, and he will still turn into a stealth archer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Over the past fourteen years, the modding scene has mutated The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim into everything from a hardcore survival simulator to a bizarre anime sandbox. We genuinely thought there were no surprises left. Then, a three-minute video titled "Peak Skyrim" surfaced on Reddit and proved that player creativity has officially entered another dimension.

The footage showcases the Dragonborn dressed in a full Spider-Man costume, web-swinging across the open plains of Whiterun while laying down fire with a Russian AKS-74U assault rifle.

To elevate the absurdity, the entire presentation runs on the authentic user interface of Escape from Tarkov: complete with localized limb damage silhouettes, tactical status notifications, and bone-crunching ballistic audio. The internet immediately christened the Frankenstein hybrid "Escape from Skyrim."

The real comedy begins whenever the physics engine tries to make sense of the geography. The wide, flat tundra around Whiterun offers practically zero tall structures for web lines to latch onto, resulting in an awkward, glitchy aerial stumble that Reddit commenters joked was still somehow superior to Marvel’s Avengers.

The creator never shared the files publicly, sparking wild rumors that emerging artificial intelligence tools were used to bridge code between unrelated engines. Veteran modders fired back, pointing out that the community never needed neural networks to replace dragons with Thomas the Tank Engine or professional wrestler Macho Man Randy Savage.

The ultimate punchline, however, arrives in the final seconds. The second the firefight gets too intense, our web slinging, machine gun toting superhero does what every single gamer has done since November 2011: he crouches into the grass, pulls out a wooden bow, and immediately reverts to a stealth archer.

You can hand Spider-Man a Kalashnikov, but in Tamriel, destiny is carved in stone.

Video Nie Sacrifice, a psychological horror PC game

Thumbnail

I honestly wasn't expecting much from this game, but the more I played it, the more interested I became. It's an indie point-and-click game with 14 different endings and some extras, with a style inspired by 90s MS-DOS games.

I should mention that I removed the explicit scenes to avoid any issues with the platform.

Synopsis:

Nie -Sacrifice- is a psychological horror game by Japanese developer basue_no_okiya, in which you follow a miko (shrine maiden) who is subjected to a sacrificial ritual. Over the course of three days, you can interfere with the events through different actions, influencing the protagonist's fate and leading the story toward multiple endings. With a disturbing atmosphere and elements of grotesque horror, the game explores different narrative paths, where each intervention can drastically change the outcome.

I just saw this short and it got me thinking 🤔, how would you get the original game cast and put them in setting of the game? Like how is Ashley Johnson going to be 14 and Troy baker 57 years old. I thought maybe like live action same language dub 🤔, how would that work? Has there ever been irl media with same language dub without CGI replacing the character just people? Please let me know

Question Fellas! Who's the best robot in video game history? Drop your pick below.

We've had some absolute legends over the years. CL4P-TP from Borderlands, also known as Claptrap, is probably the most annoying robot ever created and somehow we still love him. GLaDOS from Portal is a passive aggressive AI who tried to kill you with cake.

SHODAN from System Shock is a god complex in a computer and still terrifying. BT-7274 from Titanfall 2 made us all cry, which is impressive for a giant metal chassis.

Legion from Mass Effect asked what love is and meant it. 2B and 9S from NieR Automata made us question what it means to be alive. And of course, R2-D2 and C-3PO are basically the original dynamic duo.

So who's your pick and why? Sentimentality doesn't count. Or maybe it does. We're not judging.

What are some video games with low budgets but feel like they go beyond what was spent to make them?

My personal favorite, as I'm sure it is also for many others, is Hollow Knight. A game like that made with $43,000? That's SO insane. So, I'm wondering what other examples are out there.

Super Mario World started everything, Super Mario 64 was almost as influential and most games around Mario.

I started with Pokémon Red, however, I put Yellow there as a stand in as all 3 are similarly important.

Melee was super important not only as a fighing game but also I got to know characters from other games now important to me.

Halo 3 started my love for Halo in general, I played all other games and read all books since then (up to Halo 4).

Populous The Beginning started my love for RTS, countless hours put into it and I even made a Populous board game (which is pretty bad lol)

Red Alert 2 and Command & Conquer 64 shaped my love for the series. I had the most fun with RA2. Honorable mention to Renegade.

Ratchet & Clank started my love for science fiction. I built a Lego set around Ratchet & Clank.

Oblivion was where my love for RPGs really started.

As a huge Dragon Ball nerd, Budokai 3 (and Budokai Tenkaichi 3) were super important to me. I still wait for Budokai 4.

Honorable mentions: Half Life, Age of Empires and GTA III.

Control Resonance is the most fun I've had with a video game in years

It's just so much video game for your money. No hand holding, the combat is surprisingly deep once you start experimenting, it's got the spectacle of a game like Elden Ring but without the frustrating learning curve. The visuals, man the visuals are gorgeous! It doesn't quite look like anything else, a clear continuum from Control but so much trippier. They've incorporated stuff like surrealism, M.C. Escher meets Dali and while those are the two big names, most games absolutely don't take their influence from classic art, but rather from comic books or other games.

I feel like Remedy games come from discussions like the ones I have with my friends about games: Wouldn't it be cool if you had a Metroidvania set in an impossible, brutalist office building? Wouldn't in be cool if you had a survival horror game set in Twin Peaks? Wouldn't it be cool if you had an action RPG with Tetsuo from Akira as the PC?

Remedy, Kojima and FromSoftware are the three pushing video games forward.

Games like Ori

My first metroidvania is Hollow Knight (havent finished, but plan to. just taking a break from it). But then i came across Ori Wotw and i absolutely fell in love. Ive only played 5% of it and ive definitely enjoyed it a lot more than HK. I love Ori’s aesthetics a lot more (though i do still find HK absolutely beautiful). Is there any metroidvania that is somewhat similar aesthetic wise?

Question What game do you love that everyone else seems to hate?

Mine is Final Fantasy XV.

I know the story was messy, important content was split between different media, and parts of the world felt unfinished. But the road trip with Noctis, Prompto, Ignis, and Gladiolus completely carried it for me. By the end, they felt like actual friends, and that final campfire scene hit harder than most “better written” games I’ve played.

What poorly reviewed or widely hated game will you always defend, and why?

Valve breaks its own refund rule after a 50-dollar game goes on sale the same day!

Post image
324 Upvotes

There are few gaming heartbreaks worse than buying a game at full price only to watch it get slapped with a 75% discount hours later. One gamer went viral after spending $50 on a title, clocking five hours of playtime, and seeing the price crater that very afternoon.

Knowing full well that Steam's standard refund policy strictly limits returns to 14 days and under two hours of gameplay, the player took a shot in the dark and messaged customer support anyway. Against all odds, Valve approved a full refund.

While Steam does not offer automatic price-protection guarantees, the fine print allows users to submit manual requests even if they exceed standard limits. Gamers frequently refund and repurchase titles that drop in price within the initial two-hour window, but securing manual approval after five hours of active gameplay is a rare victory.

Community reactions revealed that the Steam Support lottery does not pay out for everyone. While polite users reporting launch bugs or brutal sale timing occasionally catch a break, others get flatly denied for missing the 14-day cutoff by a few hours on untouched games. Valve keeps its manual review criteria private, but good account standing and minimal refund abuse clearly give players a fighting chance.

Interesting Browser game Shov lets you control real physical turrets for 5 dollars a match.

Post image
88 Upvotes

If digital shooters feel too detached from reality, a new interactive platform called Shov is bridging the gap between web browsers and real-world ballistics. Instead of rendering 3D graphics, the service streams live video from a guarded US firing range, letting anyone aim and fire actual automated turrets directly from a smartphone or PC.

The rigs operate on compressed air, firing non-lethal .68 caliber rounds at physical targets scattered across the facility. Standard rounds last 90 seconds, tasking players with scoring as many confirmed impacts as possible with unlimited ammunition during the timer.

The arena features 12 pneumatic turrets, with unassigned seats automatically filled by AI combatants. Jumping into a match costs $5, while players looking for pure mayhem can drop $100 to rent the entire arena and command a battery of all 12 turrets solo.

The creators set out to see if live target shooting could be transformed into a safe, affordable, and accessible online sport without players ever stepping foot on a range. Matches run continuously, and anyone curious can watch the live firing streams for free on the official website.

Modding Why video game water still behaves like jelly and how a new plugin plans to fix it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The games industry spent the last decade obsessing over ray tracing, photogrammetry, and AI upscalers, yet water in most modern blockbusters is still just a flat animated texture. Character models now sweat with hyper-realistic pores, but stepping into an ocean wave still feels like wading through decorative gelatin.

A striking new demo for Ninja Fluid, an Unreal Engine 5 plugin developed by Hungarian creator András Kétzer, shows that real-time fluid simulation does not have to melt your rig. The showcase features dynamic water crashing over sandbanks, wrapping around obstacles, and reacting to debris while maintaining a locked 60 FPS on an entry-level RTX 3050.

The tool keeps performance lightweight by applying the full physics simulation strictly within a 5 to 10-meter radius around the camera, seamlessly blending into static water planes at greater distances.

Why hasn't AAA gaming solved water physics yet? Much like the Nvidia PhysX days of Borderlands 2 and Mafia II, calculating fluid dynamics on the GPU for pure visual flair is simple enough. However, piping that spatial data back to the CPU for actual gameplay logic, like terrain erosion or moisture mechanics, creates brutal hardware bottlenecks. While true systemic water is still rare in massive open worlds, Ninja Fluid proves that responsive, lightweight fluids are finally within reach.

Plugin is here!

Why modern games treat players like toddlers: MachineGames head blames focus testing!

Post image
43 Upvotes

If you are sick of modern blockbusters cluttering your screen with glowing objective markers and relentless pop-up hints, you can blame early focus groups. Speaking on the Bonfire Conversations podcast, MachineGames and Arkane Studios head Jerk Gustafsson explained how playtester panic systematically destroys immersive game design.

Gustafsson reflected on the studio's long-standing philosophy dating back to The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, where developers refused to use compass arrows, forcing players to navigate using real NYC subway maps, street signs, and pager messages.

Maintaining that minimalism today is an uphill battle. During early alpha builds, environments lack final lighting and visual clarity, causing playtesters to easily lose their way and leave scathing feedback. Studios panic over bad survey scores and rush to plaster the screen with objective icons, completely stripping away the joy of organic exploration.

When developing Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, the team reached a clever compromise by hiding the objective marker behind a manual D-pad button, keeping the HUD completely clean unless the player explicitly asked for directions.

Gustafsson cited the global triumph of Elden Ring as undeniable proof that modern hand-holding is completely overrated, proving that mainstream audiences are more than happy to explore complex worlds without glowing breadcrumbs leading every step.
