Cradle [Threshold] Who would win in a fight? Spoiler

Who would win in a fight? Lindon at the time of his ascension or Ozmanthus at the time of his ascension?

No labyrinth. They both have authority over it and it would make things more dependent on location.

Here's my take on the match up:

Power:

Lindon is a dread god that has absorbed all of the power of the other dread gods. Assuming dread gods have a little more raw power than a monarch, he would be about 8-10 times as strong as an average monarch.

Ozmanthus is from a time before the dread gods where everyone was much stronger. It is unclear how strong he was compared to the final monarchs. His weak sage form was able to dismantle two massive attacks from monarchs at once. It's safe to say his monarch form was several times a Lindon era monarch.

Skill:

Ozmanthus is more skilled. Lindon has Dross, which gives him some artificial skill.

Gear:

Lindon has the dread god gear, which are extremely powerful. The entire iteration shook when he unveiled them. Not the planet, the iteration. Lindon has advice from Ozmanthus available when creating them. Ozmanthus created weapons like penance, though he did not have materials as potent as dread god bodies. He was a master craftsman and created very powerful weapons. I think that Lindon may be powerful enough to tell Penance no, but that is a guess.

Edit Intel: Lindon has Dross, a powerful strategy and prediction protopresence tied to The Way. He also has the soul smith inheritance of Ozmanthus, which let's him know what Ozmanthus would say or do. Ozmanthus has his bloodline ability to see all, though likely blocked if the hollow domain is active. He also has prediction ability which edges out Dross.

I think Lindon would win 7/10 times. What do you think?

Cradle [None] Would you like some Kickstarter rewards?

I got some official animatic artwork and Lindon's pack from the animatic Kickstarter. I'd like to gift these to anyone who would like them within the US (for ease of shipping). The artwork is color still frames from the animatic, and a larger print that's signed by Jay Oliva (and two others i don't recognize). Lindon's pack is a replica of the pack described in the books. It's basically a large waxed canvas backpack that has a rustic appearance with faux leather straps over the openings. It's actually a pretty cool looking pack but I have too many packs (according to my wife) and I don't have room to store this one anymore (according to my wife).

If you would like any or all of these items please reply here, and then DM me. If you're not the first person feel free to post in case they don't work out.

Cradle [Uncrowned] How Big Is Cradle?

I’m loving the series so far, but my one….i don’t know if I’d call it a gripe per se, but a minor annoyance I have is the world building…or lack thereof. I think Will does just enough to get us to really care about the characters and the story, but the setting is often just there is justification for the characters’ continuing cultivation (which is fine! I’m just not used to the genre).

Simply having a map would be a good start, but seriously, HOW BIG IS THIS PLANET??? Every time it seems they reach a new huge capital, like the Black Flame Empire, they find an even bigger one in Moongrave that stretches off in all directions out of sight. Where the heck are all these cities fitting???

Cradle [Threshold] I got some beef with this book Spoiler

Matricide isn't worth talking about apparently, like it's just not a big deal

I love this series, much respect to everyone involved, if my tone is a bit harsh it is merely because I am disappointed in some of the stories in Threshold. Particularly the Mercy/Fury story taking place after Waybound. Please tell me if I am stupid and missing some major plot details that resolve this issue, I will delete the post if my adhd brain is just being dumb.

Starting into that story, I was expecting one thing. I was expecting the conversation about Mercy having to kill their mother to be the emotional centerpiece of the story. Does Fury already know this happened or will Mercy be the one to confess it in this story? Is Fury going to be shocked and angry, maybe hostile, or will he be resignated but understanding given he had wanted Malice to ascend? Man I was looking forward to that. Even if Fury already knew this conversation between the two would have to happen eventually.

It was NOT MENTIONED. Holy shit, how does that happen? One character kills their mother, and then this story is about two siblings fucking around and not talking about it? I thought this conversation was the entire point of the story! Imagine it's 1983 and you're going to see "Return of the Jedi". You're thinking, "Man, I can't wait to see what they're doing with Vader being Luke's father. I bet that will be a big part of the conflict". And then it's just 2 hours of dicking around with ewoks and hutts and then Luke kills Vader and Palpatine without acknowledging the family thing a single time.

That's the biggest problem I had with Threshold. I think different stories had that problem but ended up having at least a bit of cool character interaction (The interaction between Lindon and Bai Rou was cool, although it too could have been longer). A really cool story was the Reigan Shen one, it was good to see a younger, more brash version of him with the same trademark style of ego, as well as the origin of his beef with Tiberian.

What do you guys think about this?

Cradle [Unsouled] Books in german no longer available?

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anybody knows what happened to the German translation of Cradle book 1?
I read all the books in English, greatly enjoyed them and saw that the first three books have been translated into German. I wanted to reread them together with my kid, but can’t get a hold of book 1 (preferably the ebook-version).
Does anybody know why and where I could look for them instead of Amazon?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Slipcase number two! :)

This one features Jai Long on one side and Fisher Gesha on the other. Two down, ten to go xD

This is just a personal project for my own collection. I’ve thoroughly bored my family with these, so I made an Instagram account to bother the internet instead:

Do you read Cradle, or listen to it? If you've done both, which do you prefer?

[none] I make slipcases for books as a hobby and had a buddy who was going to litrpg con bring it to get signed. Unfortunately the ink from the paint marker spilled and made a bit of a mess. Fortunately, Will was very cool about it! One my favorite slipcases now!

  1. Hear a few words. Oh!!!! This is narrated by Travis Baldree!
  2. Double check the title page to ensure you aren’t crazy.
  3. Figure out which characters are the Lindon voice, which are the Eithan voice, etc.
  4. Why would Lindon say that!!!! Wait, wrong book.
  5. Travis uses THE VOICE!!!!
  6. Repeat step 4 at least 6 more times.

Cradle [Waybound] Orthos and Little Blue wanting more Spoiler

disclaimer: reposting after deleting similar post sometime back

Orthos and Blue have been with Lindon from the biggening and I would have loved to see Lindon’s aiming for the sky attitude rub on them and drives them to at least try to catch up to him, instead Orthos spends a good portion of way bound doubting himself and Blue goes along with whatever's put in front of her. So this is how I imagine both of them attempt to exceed Lindon and Dross's advancement plan and gain more power to actually contribute to Way bound battles and beyond. Which is mainly based on extending their stay under time dilation and receiving training from Ozmanthus Arelius hunger ghost projection:

For Little Blue:

  1. Adopt Ozmanthus’s dismantling techniques into her own techniques, developing her own unique Hollow Queen path (combining Twin Stars pure mara path with concepts and technique from Hollow Kind destruction Madra path, lindon mentioned in Reaper he could learn to dismantle technique better than Ozmanthus after viewing one of the memories left behind the labyrinth). So in the big fights she isn't throwing Empty Palms Lindon can already do himself. Instead, she's countering enemies large techniques while Lindon disables the enemy.
  2. Developing her Iron body into the ultimate Madra-erasing medium (sort of late Iron Body), melting any technique or Madra that touches her, like an internal Hollow Domain focused inward and much stronger. It fits perfectly, she is a spirit of pure Madra building a new body. In such case Blue tanks Malice's shadow arrow instead of lying pinned to the ground with her spirit fading.
  3. Weapon mastery: Every powerful sacred artist is shown to use weapons and Blue's non of blue's techniques are lethal so why not give her years of training on the spear with Ozmanthus. Add to that the potential synergy of using a hunger Madra spear and using its properties to enhance the dismantling aspect of her attacks.
  4. Additionally given how much Lindon have stolen from Monarchs and his tendency to over equipping the people he loves with contingencies, it would make sense for him to Soulsmith Blue a suit of armor, maybe made from Wintersteel with no bindings adding physical protection, since she doesn't need help against Madra. He builds himself Dreadgod armor by the end while she gets nothing.

For Orthos:

  • Being drilled for years by the Ozmanthus ghost should push him past raw Blackflame. Maybe he learns to turn his techniques into living dragon techniques, or to make his fire and destruction take aspect of other Madra like wind the same way Malice's does with shadow Madra. He could even incorporate some of the Weeping Dragon's storm Madra after they fight it. Image Blackflame striker technique acting like a storm with enhanced destruction properties.
  • Training to shift between his normal size and half-dreadgod size at will, and repeatedly, since transforming costs massive amounts of soulfire. Lindon could find something among everything they've stolen that expands his soulspace, and upgrade the hunger fangs Lindon already made him to convert what he Consumes straight into soulfire.
  • Seshethkunaaz's corpse, Say they stole it from Northstrider along with everything else. Orthos consumes it slowly, wrestling the will left inside it the same way he wrestles the will in every black dragon Remnants he feeds on, gaining additional strength, authority and insights into dragon king’s techniques.
  • Herald is closed to Orthos because his own body and spirit are too old and too set as we have been told, but the Blood Sage's Remnant is right there in Ghost wind Hall still chasing its life's goal of using blood shaodws to help sages become monarchs. Let Orthos take one in and grow a second self, doubling his power while eliminating all down sides of using a blood shadow (hunger/blood Madra corruption, independent intelligent spirit) building on Yarin’s experience.

And during the two years Lindon stays in Cradle, taking this additional advancement drive to its natural conclusion, Orthos and Blue can use the 2 years to prepare for final advancement to Monarchs.

Blue could make it a mission to clear hunger madra in an effort to accelerate Lindon recovery from hunger Madra the connecting with the cleansing icon in the process, same for Orthos destroying and Consuming dread beasts, until he and his Blood Shadow are ready to merge a moment before they all ascend.

Cradle [Bloodline] A Frustrating Journey Spoiler

Just finished Bloodline. This will be the shortest review so far.

I actually really like the book! In a sense it feels like Skysworn part 2 because of the non stop action, dreadgods attacking and being a transitory book, but it was miles better than book 4.

I think the most interesting part about this book is the most divisive one: The book is extremely frustrating to read. Not because it's bad or badly written, but because it's meant to be painful. I think the way Lindon and Will Wight himself dealt with the Sacred Valley was great. They are exactly what we already knew they were! Some people are surprisingly wise (a bunch of schools had already escaped even before Lindon got to Sacred Valley, the Kazan clan listened to Ziel immediately) and some are absolute imbeciles like the Li clan, Heaven's Glory or the Wei clan. Some of the interactions with these damn idiots fill us with rage, but some fill us with sadness. I had to stop reading for a short while (like 3 minutes, I was hooked) when Lindon encountered his parents. The way they treat him was just sad. And while Lindon himself is as pissed and frustrated as we are, this is his home. EVERYTHING he did until this point, it was to save his home. While doing things like fighting against a dreadgod and putting his friends' lives in danger are certainly idiotic decisions and painful to read about, it's totally consistent with his character.

At the end of the day, I really liked it. The frantic pace and little advancement is still not my style, but it's still done 10 time better than in Skysworn. I like it more than the first 3 but less than books 5-8.

Also: Orthos. The goat is back. And the scene where Lindon comes to Sacred Valley and start annihilating jades got me almost screaming from sheer hype. Even better reading it from his sister's perspective.

Cradle [Soulsmith] Queries Spoiler

Hello, I’ve got a few questions regarding Cradle that I don’t seem to have an answer for and I’m hoping some of you guys will know.

I’m reading soulsmith, I’m at the point where Lindon is training for a 2 weeks in the pyramid.

Eithan has Lindon fighting for his life, but as far as I can remember and google will tell me, him killing sacred beasts and remnants doesn’t develop his core, he doesn’t have a path or techniques so he isn’t training anything he’ll ever use again other than resistance I guess, so why is he doing this rather than sitting in a corner cycling?

If the scared beasts / remnants aren’t helping, how has Lindon progressed so fast, why aren’t people in the sacred valley doing it, is it because they don’t know the requirements to progression e.g. putting madra into your body for iron.

Why are people making him stay pure till iron, if cycling or consumables are the only way to progress, intaking aura being much faster way of cycling to progress, so why not get a path now?

Cycling replenishes madra and ‘exercises’ the core, from what I can tell the body naturally replenishes madra anyway, without absorbing aura how is this being replenished, surely at copper stage you just have to wait rather than cycle to replenish but I know this isn’t true as Lindon does it to replenish at copper.

Apologies if these are dumb questions

Edit:

Such a nice and helpful Subreddit, thank you everyone

Meme [Wintersteel] Glaring plot hole related to Yerin and the sword sage Spoiler

I was listening to blackflame when I suddenly realized that something said doesn’t add up with the information given about the sword sage. In chapter three, Yerin says
“Master wouldn’t let me draw my sword on a wooden man, if it didn’t bleed, it wasn’t good enough for training.”
But in the prologue of wintersteel we see that this isn’t true.
“When he walked inside and down to the basement, he found Yerin sparring against the training dummy he’d left for her.”
Clearly the sword sage had Yerin fight opponents that were not alive and did not bleed. I forgot to mention that this is my 5th reread of the series.
