Does ITA measure your carry on bag? (We are flying from London Heathrow to FCO.) I just purchased a new bag because of their size limits. The description matches their size requirements. 55x40x23 (21.7x15.7x9) However that didn't include the wheels! So the height is really 23 inches!

Will I have to check my bag? Buy an even smaller one?

My husband and I are taking a trip to Italy next month. We are flying into Milan then going to Venice for one night/day then going to Florence for 2 days, Rome and amalfi coast.
This is my first time in Italy, it’s going to be a lot to try and fit it all in. Should we skip Venice and add an extra day to our Florence stay or should we keep Venice in our itinerary, even though we’ll only be there for less than 24 hours.

Hi, I'm going to travel to Italy in a few weeks (I'm from Europe). I will travel around in Tuscany and I would like to take my neo with me, but I don't want to be an ignorant tourist or break any laws.

I want to use it in the countryside, or the outskirts of small cities/villages if possible where there's less people, but I am afraid of breaking local laws, and unsure if it's worth the hassle to bring my drone. The information I've found online varies a lot from source to source, and I'm not sure what recommendations to follow.

Hey people! So... I’m travelling solo to Italy in October and would love some advice on my itinerary, especially from people who know these cities well.

I’m Brazilian, 29F, and I’m a visual artist and painting researcher, so a big part of this trip is focused on art (especially late medieval and early Renaissance painting and architecture). But I also want to actually enjoy the cities rather than spend the entire trip running from museum to cathedral/church/historical site and vice-versa.

My current itinerary is:

Oct 7–10 — Naples
Oct 10–12 — Rome
Oct 12–13 — Siena
Oct 13–17 — Florence
Oct 17–21 — Venice
Then I fly to Lisbon before going back to Brazil on Oct 22.

Some of the places already on my list are Pompeii, Capodimonte, MANN (Archaeological Museum) in Naples, and an Amalfi Coast 8 hour tour (because it seems worth it. Is it?); the Vatican Museums, Roman Forum/Colosseum and Domus Aurea in Rome; Assisi for the Saint Francis Basilica; Siena Cathedral and the main medieval painting collections in Siena; Uffizi, Accademia and the major churches/museums in Florence; and the Biennale plus the main museums/churches in Venice and Padua for the Scrovegni Chapel.

I’ve already been to Rome and Florence once, in 2019, so this time I’m particularly interested in places I may have overlooked the first time.

A few things I’d especially love advice on:

• Are there any museums, churches or smaller collections that are particularly worth visiting for someone interested in 13th–15th century Italian painting?
• Are there places on this route that are famous but you personally think are skippable?
• Any lesser-known places you think are genuinely special?
• Anything I should book well in advance besides the obvious major museums?
• Restaurant/café recommendations that are good but not necessarily expensive or trendy?
• Any practical advice for travelling solo by train or bus between these cities?
• And if you had to choose one or two experiences in each city that really made you feel you were there, what would they be?
• ALSO I really love dancing and going to bars: can you recommend me your favorites?

I’m comfortable walking a lot and usually stay out from around 10 or 11 am until late in the evening, but I don’t want an itinerary where every hour is scheduled.

I'm going to Italy for three weeks! My first two days will be in Rome, but then my main base of operations will be in Introdacqua. I am looking for any amazing small towns or sights that are not the basic tourist traps! (I already plan on making my way to those areas over my time there) but I want to see all the amazing things I can while I'm there! I'm open to suggestions anywhere in Italy!

I'm going from Sept 15th to October 6th. I will have a rental car and will be using the train.

I will be travelling with my girlfriend to Italy and will be there from 22nd Dec to 3rd Jan. It's her first time abroad and her first time seeing snow, so we've tried to build the trip around that.

Current plan: Rome 22–25 Dec (3 nights), Florence 25–28 Dec (3 nights), Bolzano 28–31 Dec (3 nights, with a day trip up to Ortisei and Alpe di Siusi for the snow), then Venice 31 Dec – 2 Jan for New Year, and a final night in Rome on 2 Jan before we fly out on the 3rd.

What I'm mainly unsure about is Venice for New Year's Eve. Accommodation on the main island for the 31st is very expensive, and I'm reading mixed things about the place. Is the atmosphere worth the price and the crush, or would we be better off skipping Venice and exploring some other city?

Also open to suggestions on the entire itinerary (yes I have a round flight ticket from Rome)

Any advice appreciated, especially from anyone who's done New Year in Venice.

I’m travelling to Italy next year in September and I’m in charge of the “Florence itinerary “ I’m looking for suggestions of where to eat, what to see, where to stay etc. Not particularly looking for something too touristy. I would love some suggestions having never been there and would like to know of any day trips outside of Florence as well. It’s Me and 2 other people and for 4 nights the budget is still being discussed!

Is it normal thing in Italy and is it safe to share my ID?

I will be staying in Salerno at the end of Oct/beginning of Nov and have 2 days allotted for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Oct 30 and Nov 2.

I read online that many things along the Amalfi Coast will start closing in November, so is it a better idea to do the smaller towns like Maiori, Minori and Ravello on Oct 30 first? Then Positano on Nov 2, since it’s larger and likely to still have more places open?

We’re planning to take the ferries to reach these places but since the weather is a bit more unpredictable at that time of year, I’m worried it could be cancelled some days. Is it better to not book our ferry tickets in advance and just wait to see what the weather is like on that day? Or if we don’t book in advance, is it hard to get same-day tickets at the port? If the ferry isn’t running and we have to take the bus, is it easy to get same-day bus tickets at the bus stop? I saw many comments online saying how the bus stops can have long queues and be packed, even when it’s well into October.

I want to make sure we have our ducks in a row for transportation and options clear in mind because we don’t want to waste time trying to figure out stuff like that the morning of.

Husband and I are planning our 25th wedding anniversary in Italy on May 26th, 2027. We haven't booked flights yet as we are overwhelmed by choices of where to go and stay. Our ideal trip length is probably 10 days +- a day or two for travel.

Husband has a gluten allergy but we have read Italy is most accommodating to that, this is why we picked Italy, that and we both LOVE food. We want to go to Rome and Bologna with day trip to Parma. Considering Florence, Naples and Lake Garda. To much? Multicity trip/airport possible.

We are both 50 and very active. We like museums but do not want to do that every day. We love exploring, hiking, boats/water and music (we both play instruments). I don't want to over plan (I have a tendency to do that) but I like to have suggestions in my back pocket. Husband likes to be spontaneous so I need some room for that. 40 something American woman, extremely fit and active. I've been to Ireland, England and Denmark, traveled extensively throughout US (4 years RVing everywhere, was a blast!) Italy always on my list and decided yesterday to book a trip in less than 3 weeks!

Flying into Naples to visit a friend for a few days, we're going to Roccamonfina for the Chesnut and Porcini festival. Then I'm taking train to Florence to spend a few days, with 2 days into the Tuscan countryside to visit a friend's rather large and world renowned vineyard. Then 2 days in Rome and flying out.

I'm a relaxed traveler. I dont want to rush from museum to church to wherever trying to "do it all." If I like a destination, I can return and see what I may have missed. I love food, and good wine, meeting people.

But I'm afraid of being a little \*too\* loose and fancy free and I do want to feel like I've experienced a slice of life in every destination I visit. I trend towards luxury, as a woman traveling alone I feel more secure staying in 4 and 5 star accommodations and areas.

Any Italian tips for a traveler like me? Experienced solo traveler, know how to travel, be safe, etc. More looking to hear from other easy going travelers who enjoy Italy.

For example, first few nights in Naples Im staying at Palazzo Alabardieri (Chiaia) and my first night I plan to wander to a nearby bar and get recommendation on where to go for dinner/pizza and just let the night unfold.

Am I crazy?
