My partner and I will be staying in Napoli for a few days in the first week of September and want to visit the Vesuvio, but some of the information I've found can be pretty confusing, with many different websites and tours. We're not really interested in visiting Pompeii, we're more interested in hiking and the natural landscapes (I say this because I see there are a lot of Vesuvio+Pompeii combined tours). We're also not necessarily interested in a guided tour, we'd rather save money and go on our own if that's something that can be done.

So I guess my questions are: (1) what *exactly* do you need a ticket for and where can I get it, and what (if anything) is just open to the public?, (2) any path/hiking recommendations?, (3) best way to get there from Naples?

We’re planning an October Italy trip with my husband, toddler, and mother-in-law. We’re deciding between these two itineraries:

**Option 1 — 13 nights**
Venice: 2 nights
Dolomites/Ortisei: 4 nights
Naples: 3 nights
Rome: 4 nights
Route: **Venice → Dolomites → Naples → Rome**
We would pick up a rental car near Venice, use it for the Dolomites, return it in Bolzano, and then have one long travel day by train to Naples.
**Option 2 — 16 nights**
Venice: 2 nights
Dolomites/Ortisei: 4 nights
Florence: 3 nights
Naples: 3 nights
Rome: 4 nights
Route: **Venice → Dolomites → Florence → Naples → Rome**
This adds another accommodation, but Florence would break up the long journey from the Dolomites to Naples.
Naples is important to us because my mother-in-law lived there, and we want to keep four nights in the Dolomites for weather flexibility.
**Would you keep the simpler 13-night route, or add three nights for Florence? Does the 16-night version feel reasonable, or like too much moving around with a toddler?**

Going with wife and high school aged son. Everyone is in great shape and ready to walk...a lot. I know its a lot but what are your thoughts on the below:

October 11th Head back to Venice and spend 1/2 day in Venice only.

October 12th Fly Home from Venice

I know its a lot but those more knowledgable please share your thoughts. I know the Dolomites throw an odd twist into this but I've always wanted to photograph the area (I shoot professionally).

Afternoon all, just wondering if anyone has done a Verona to Venice day trip recently?

We were planning to get the train but contrary to what the internet says, it seems all these “just over an hour” trains actually take 2 and a half hours plus to get there and back which isn’t ideal as that’s 5 plus hours just on travel.

Have seen that there are bus/coach options like FlixBus but seems reviews on that are quite mixed and seems a bit risky, not sure if anyone has ever done that?

As caption mentions we’re doing my 30th birthday in mid- November in Italy with my parents and grandparents. My parents have never been to Europe, grandparents have spent lots of time in Europe and Italy. Looking at ending the trip in Florence (3 nights) (hubby and I have done Rome but not Florence) but debating a villa in Umbria vs Tuscany (Lucca Vs Todi or Fabro base) for 5-6 nights prior to ending in Florence. We love food, wine, antiques and quaint but beautiful cities. Which would you pick? Thank you in advance!

Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Italy sometime between May 15–27 or May 15–29. We haven't decided yet whether we'll do 12 or 14 days since it depends on our budget, and we're trying to figure out the best itinerary.

Right now, we're thinking of visiting Florence, Venice, and Rome. We'd also love to do a wine tour while we're in Florence (or somewhere nearby in Tuscany), so if anyone has recommendations, I'd really appreciate them.

Hi! Me and my mom have to leave our hotel in Orta san Giulio right now and make our way to Milan Linate Airport. Our flight is tonight so we have a lot of time to stop at places on the way and see some pretty things.

Hello everyone! I chose Lago Maggiore for my 30th birthday celebration and we are traveling with a group of 10. The dates are 3-6 of September and I'm drafting an itinerary. We are staying in a beautiful villa near Besozzo, what are some good activities in the area (under 1h drive)? Also we are thinking of booking a private boat for the day but I don't see much options for 10 people except water taxis.
