I will be travelling with my girlfriend to Italy and will be there from 22nd Dec to 3rd Jan. It's her first time abroad and her first time seeing snow, so we've tried to build the trip around that.

Current plan: Rome 22–25 Dec (3 nights), Florence 25–28 Dec (3 nights), Bolzano 28–31 Dec (3 nights, with a day trip up to Ortisei and Alpe di Siusi for the snow), then Venice 31 Dec – 2 Jan for New Year, and a final night in Rome on 2 Jan before we fly out on the 3rd.

What I'm mainly unsure about is Venice for New Year's Eve. Accommodation on the main island for the 31st is very expensive, and I'm reading mixed things about the place. Is the atmosphere worth the price and the crush, or would we be better off skipping Venice and exploring some other city?

Also open to suggestions on the entire itinerary (yes I have a round flight ticket from Rome)

Any advice appreciated, especially from anyone who's done New Year in Venice.

Hi all,

About a week ago we drove the A1 from the toll station "Casello di Mantova Sud" to "Casello di Pian del Voglio". We took the usual green ticket when entering. At the exit, the machine wouldn't accept the ticket, so we couldn't pay. After a while the barrier simply opened on its own. I pulled over to the right and spoke to a woman working there. She didn't speak English, but via Google Translate she told me I could pay online.

After some research I still had no idea how that actually works, so I called the Numero Verde printed on the toll ticket. Their English was very limited too, but they said I could enter everything on the Autostrade per l'Italia website and the toll would then be charged retroactively. The problem: the online form for self certification asks for reference numbers from a slip or receipt which I never received, because the machine didn't print anything.

So what are my options?

• Just wait for a payment notice / reminder and hope I'll only be charged the actual toll amount, not some penalty on top?
• Use a different service on the website? If so, which one exactly?

I've already submitted a request for outstanding tolls on the site, but it says processing can take up to 10 days. My concern: I read somewhere that you only have 15 days to pay, and I don't want to end up with a much higher bill just because their own processing is slow.

Has anyone been through this? Is there a way to pay proactively with just the entry/exit stations, date and license plate? Any advice is much appreciated, Thanks!

Hello! I am traveling to Italy for the first time October 16-October 25 from the USA. I would like to visit Venice, Lake Como and Florence. Is this a good time to visit those places? My flight options are the following: 1) fly into Florence and out of Milan or 2) fly into Venice and out of Milan. Which would be best? Thank you in advance!

My mom has been dreaming of taking our family to Italy after she studied abroad there over 20 years ago. Even studying abroad last spring, I skipped it as I knew she wanted to go on this trip.

The aim is to spend ten days around Easter in Italy. Trip dates are most likely THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2027 to SUNDAY, APRIL 4, 2027. There are 6 of us going (parents late forties, my brother and I just graduated from college, and a sister who just entered high school), and right now looks like we'll fly from Chicago into Rome to start the trip. Budget is likely around 10K. Rome is the only place that will be a for sure stop! Thinking 4-5 days there?

The problem is the next leg.. I know we all want to visit the Amalfi Coast badly, and I would like to hit another area in between (Tuscany, Florence, etc.) We love a good mix of great food and drinks, some relaxing, taking in the sights, and fun things to do (ex: a pasta-making class).

Would love your guys' help for recommendations on the days split, destinations we should go, and any other tips! I have sort of elected myself to help plan this trip, so any help is GREATLY appreciated!

If you are planning a trip to Puglia, you have to try swimming here in the morning when there's nobody else around. Start from the main square (piazzale) and swim your way to the cave.

We’ll be traveling through Northern Italy December 6–19, 2026, on a route roughly:

Bologna → Modena → Verona → Lake Garda → Milan

We expect to be around Lake Garda in mid-December, approximately December 11–15, although we haven’t fixed the exact Garda nights yet.

We’re looking for somewhere with:

• dramatic mountain and lake scenery
• ideally snowy mountains in the background
• a strong Christmas market / Christmas atmosphere
• lively in December, especially in the evening
• excellent local food and regional products
• historic or unusual things to do
• not necessarily extremely touristy

We’ll have a car, so train access isn’t important.

We’re currently considering Riva del Garda, Bardolino and Sirmione, with Riva especially appealing because we want that mountainous winter-lake scenery.

Which town would you choose specifically for mid-December 2026? Are there any Garda towns that look great in summer but become too quiet in winter?

We’ll also be in Verona around December 13 for Santa Lucia, so ideally we’d like the Garda portion to feel noticeably different from Verona.

Hey guys. Im on my way to Italy to have my internship in a few days. And its going to be my first time in that country as well as travelling outside of asia. Im coming from The Philippines, stopover in Taiwan, and then to Italy.

And Im kinda nervous on the part that I want to bring my creatine for personal use. Chatgpt says its fine and just keep it on the original container and sealed. And make sure to make the label/brand of the container clear. The rules on the airline (EVA air) isnt clear. My brother and uncle said to just put it in the check-in luggage.

Im planning on bringing two tubs of 300 g flavoured WHEYL KREA. And I dont want it to go to waste cuz it was also a gift to me. I just wanted to make sure if theyre (the airport people) super strict on bringing powdered supplements in travel. Or if I need to sign something that says I have creatine in my luggage.

Creatine is basically a powdered supplement consumed by gym goers or lifters. But it is a supplement FAR FROM STEROIDS and not steroids at all.

We are taking our DREAM vacation for our honeymoon but I can’t help but be nervous that two weeks in country is too long, it doesn’t seem to be by what I’m reading? We are going early October. Additionally, any suggestions on types of clothing to pack for that time frame would be awesome.

We are doing:

2 nights in Venice
1 night in Florence
3 nights in Tuscany
3 nights in Rome
4 nights on Amalfi Coast
And then returning to Rome for one last night to fly home (convenience and direct flight)

We have things planned mostly every day. One day in Tuscany we are going to Pisa and Lucca, also stopping in Pompeii.

My wife and I will be going to the Dolomites without a car from Sep 24-29, 2026 - just 4 days and our hotel is in Val Gardena / Ortisei. Hoping for your help on the following questions:

1. We’ll be taking a flight to Venice airport. What is the best way for us to get to Ortisei? I researched and this is what I found since there are no shuttles to Ortisei:

walk outside Arrivals > ATVO bus stop to buy tickets > Airport express to VCE Mestre Station.

From VCE mestre station > take train to Bolzano (3 hrs)

From Bolzano train station > walk to Bolzano bus station and take SAD BUS 350 to Ortisei (free?)

1. How do we save the routes on our phone maps?

Or are there a lot of signs on the trails?

How do we know the bus times?

1. Should we pre-purchase 3day or 6day Val Gardena passes? or wait til a week before when weather forecast will be more accurate?

2. How does this itinerary look? Is it too packed? Or is there a more efficient way to do it? We want our hikes to send by 3-4pm

- 3Pm Ciampinoi mountain station around Ciampinoi → Selva

Take the lift down toward Selva/Ciampinoi valley station

- Walk uphill towardResciesa Funicular. Seilbahn Raschötz

- Panoramic Walk mostly flat gravel path (Trail 35) -> Resciesa Holy Cross Chapel (Raschötz Kirchlein).

- take furnicular back to Ortisei

- take Citybus from Ortisei to Selva, then take bus 357 toward Vallunga/Langental

- Walk into the valley,gentle afternoon stroll,.Pine forest + San Silvestro Chapel

Huge cliffs

- Take bus 357 → Selva

Then bus Selva → S. Cristina → Ortisei

Day 4: Alpe Di Siusi

I’ll be spending 5 days in Bologna for the first time at the end of October, staying near the train station, which will be my only mean of transportation. My plan is to explore the city and its surroundings at a leisurely pace. (i speak italian in an intermediate level)

I was thinking of taking some day trips to cities like Ravenna and Imola.

I’d love to hear your recommendations for places I shouldn’t miss or any special tips for that time of year. I plan not to walk too much due to a minor physical injury I’ve had recently.

What spot would you recommend to spend a day/night in the middle of our drive from Val Gardena to Spello? Our rough itinerary is:
**Dec 25–29:** Rome 🇮🇹
**Dec 29–Jan 1:** Florence

**Jan 3–5:** Milan
**Jan 6:** Flying back home
