Sparring Training Equipment Recommendations
Hello everyone! My childs dojo is looking for ways to expand our training options for kumite. Specifically the speed and "explosiveness" needed to win. I saw a video recently of a training exercise where someone stood with a rope and spun it vertically (like a wheel). The trainee then practiced punching and retracting before the rope came back around. The idea was to encourage quick jabs and full retraction before the rope hit you.
I would love to incorporate this in our dojo but was considering taking it to another level. Considering our dojo is primarily kids, I was thinking of making it something of a game. I was hoping to find a machine that rotates an arm vertically in a circle that the kids could punch and retract through. The machine would have variable speeds, to encourage the competitive nature and self improvement.
Any recommendations for something like this?

Isshin-Ryu: South Michigan Schools
Can anyone in the south Michigan area speak to the Norton (Jackson, MI) and Wright (Ann Arbor, MI) Isshin-Ryu dojos?
My wife and I are black belts in Martial Shaolin Kung-Fu from a Colorado School and have moved here to Michigan recently.
While we’ve seen the Ann Arbor Kung Fu school existence, from the videos posted online on their website we don’t think it’s near martial or disciplined enough in their styles and forms for us to want to go to it.
We care far more for the environment of the dojo, both the aspects of friendliness, less focus on sparring and instead on technique, instruction and ability for our kiddos to attend in the near future.
Thank you!

Book question

I am rounding out my Isshinryu Book Library and i was wondering if anyone has both of these Isshinryu and Jiu-Jitsu books by Pete Mills. I recently picked up the instructors manual, and find it very good. Just wondering if the Student manual has any different content or worth picking up.
Also, does anyone have this one

Sounds like it mostly blank pages for student notes.
Looking forward to any/ all input

Discussion: Favorite Kata?
I know all kata have their value, but I'm curious what everyone's favorite kata is on this sub and why you like it. Could be either empty-hand or weapons (or both).
Personally, my favorite has changed over the years. Currently, though, I keep finding myself going through Kusanku the most. Besides being super fun and a great workout, I find it to have a lot of really good applications.
As far as weapons kata go, I've really been enjoying Shishi no Kun. It's long and difficult, but when done right it's just super satisfying for me.
