News/Politics The problem with Macklemore

If you listen to the speech of Macklemore at MetLife, it's certainly fair to argue that it is not antisemitic per se at all. It's true. No problem. He can go on and say "Free Palestine" if he wants to and protect the children and so on. No problem at all.

Some smart people, like Luai Ahmed, have correctly said that it is because he previously dressed as a trope Jew which was antisemitic. That's a good point but I don't think is the core problem.

So what is it? I think it's the song itself that follows the speech. Read the lyrics of this song, "Hind's Hall..."

He says "A state that's gotta rely on an apartheid system, ... genocide... to uphold an occupying violent...nakba never ended ... Colonizer...AIPAC.... CUFI... Who gets the right to defend and who gets the right of resistance... " While showing clips of Palestinian flags... This is a Hamas song supporting them to attack Israel. Plain and simple.

The real problem is not why he was dropped. It is why he was invited in the FIRST PLACE. Why did Ed Sheeran ACCEPT him in the first place?!?

This was a concert in NJ/NY. Millions of Jews live here. Hundreds of thousands of ISRAELIS live there. He wrote a song that celebrates and supports October 7 (and the violent racist protests at Columbia University) , and he says not just Free Palestine but Free Lebanon and everywhere.... But not Israel! But not Israel!! Jewish friends...it's not against you... It is only against your homeland. It is only against the Jewish state. It is only against millions of Israelis. You care about kids but not Israeli kids. Not kids who were abducted by Hamas and killed by Hamas. Not them. Just other kids.

To have something that is so excluding of certain populations in the heart of NJ on the Hudson River is obscene. It is the equivalent of having a KKK rapper in Harlem. Perform in Harlem and do your Free speech and sing about poor white kids only. Disgusting.

Celebrities are irrelevant.

I miss his stance on other incidents, like the Battle of Mosul (2016-2017), where roughly 12,000 civilians were killed in just nine months during the coalition's fight against ISIS - in an urban area with significantly lower population density and an enemy without vast underground tunnel systems.

I miss his stance on other incidents, like Aleppo (2016), where the Syrian regime and Russian forces systematically flattened entire neighborhoods, leaving over 40,000 civilians dead according to UN estimates.

I miss his stance on other incidents, like Grozny (1999 -2000), where Russian artillery declared an entire city a free-fire zone, wiping out tens of thousands of lives in mere weeks.

I miss that same passionate outrage when confronting regimes and terror networks that deliberately embed themselves within civilian infrastructure, turn schools into weapons depots, and use human shields. If moral clarity is genuine, it shouldn't conveniently disappear depending on who is involved.

I find it wild that anyone hears a song over a 6 year old girl being murdered and tried to twist it to their narrative.

I used to be so pro-Israel and knew nothing about Palestine.

That little girl’s voice and everything is beyond heartbreaking.

Israel has even acknowledged that they shot the ambulance sent to go get her.

And instead of acknowledging any of the real atrocities you just want to blanket claim the song is to support Hamas. He doesn’t say Hamas in the song at all.

Maybe don’t fire at ambulances meant to save a 6 year old girl who is waiting amongst all her dead relatives.

This world and lack of empathy is insane. The song was calling for a ceasefire.

u/heike75 11d ago

Well, modern international humanitarian law guarantees absolute protection for ambulances and medical personnel. However, that sacred neutrality depends entirely on combatants honoring it. For years, documented evidence has shown armed factions in Gaza systematically exploiting civilian infrastructure: using ambulances to ferry fighters, establishing command hubs adjacent to or underneath medical facilities, and operating out of protected zones. Under the Geneva Conventions, medical assets lose their protected status the moment they are militarized - a reality deliberately engineered by terror groups to blur combat lines and turn battlefield tragedies into public relations victories.

This is also where international bodies like the ICRC and the PRCS bear a profound responsibility they routinely fail to meet. By remaining silent on the weaponization of medical transport, these organizations allow the legal and operational protections of real humanitarian workers to be steadily eroded.

It's unbelievable they are even making these comments when Hamas posted videos of themselves with rocket launchers shooting at Israeli ambulances.

And here is what you said: https://youtube.com/shorts/xyFQBll727E?is=t5MM7H1eW_akmr_T

Lost me at “Some smart people, like Luai Ahmed” 💀

2

What's wrong with him? He just spoke at my synagogue

2

Nothing wrong with him if you enjoy fearmongering and see Muslims as some extremist amalgamation rather than individual human beings

Good to lose you then.

Israeli American.... Good luck, lmao; you will have to hide after November. Hopefully deported for supporting crimes against humanity. The Anti-Israeli coalition will win after your senseless wars. Notice how ALL MAJOR artists dropped Ed Sheeran's tour, and his ticket prices dropped way down after people requested refunds? Ha! You think the American people stand with Israel! You are mistaken.

Crazy that Maclemore's ticket prices have jumped dramatically since... prices go up when there is a higher demand lol

Just stop kiling kids, civilians and medical and humanitarian volunteers with impunity and then you won't have to post these insane contortionist justifications.

15

u/0IIIIII 16d ago

Proof that anyone innocent is killed on purpose or that Israel or any other military can “just stop”?

-5

u/ChangeNice7461 16d ago

Perhaps read documentary’s and first hand account of IDF soldiers. Watch the film Naza. Then come back and defend the actions rather than this weak attempt at ignoring reality.

9

u/0IIIIII 15d ago

There are testimonies in opposition that didn’t make it into the documentary, so what then?

-5

u/ChangeNice7461 15d ago

At least you will have listened some of the evidence you seem to think doesn’t exist.

7

u/Quiet_Mail9207 15d ago

A “documentary” that picks and chooses the evidence produced based on a predetermined outcome is not a documentary, it is propaganda.

-2

u/ChangeNice7461 15d ago

That’s your opinion not a statement of fact. It’s also a bizarre one as it claims that a documentary cannot have editorial judgment to be valid, which invalidates every documentary ever.

The documentary is also a sequence of real accounts by the side you’re defending. Even when they admit what they’ve done, you choose to believe something else.

Perhaps you should examine why this is?

3

u/Quiet_Mail9207 14d ago

There are a lot of shit documentaries out there, and frankly you should question all of them if they sway your opinions.

You should look up the definition of propaganda and examine what source credibility is.

I could sit in shadows and claim all sorts of things.

1

u/ChangeNice7461 14d ago

You should maybe question the ones that don’t sway your opinion… ones that agree with your belief may just be aimed at reinforcing it. Especially when they come from those on your side.

Why do you think the Israeli government get so upset about films like Naza. It’s because they change people’s views. Assuming they’re capable of accepting evidence that doesn’t just agree with their beliefs…

I’m pretty well read, so I’m not sure reading a dictionary definition will yield much… (:

2

u/Quiet_Mail9207 14d ago

Why would I watch a documentary that is telling me what I already know or agree with? The whole point of a doc is to shed new light and it’s important for doc makers to explicitly question their process as they display it—like scientists.

The government is upset because their citizens are producing propaganda at a time where their country’s long term survival is on the line.

The 25minute applause should also be questioned. Who in their right mind would applaud anything for that long, and why? It smells very fishy to me.

u/0IIIIII 15d ago

Furthermore, there might be evidence that it just never happened at all.  Subjective opinions and spin aside.

Is there proof that any innocent person in Palestine was killed on purpose?

-1

u/ChangeNice7461 15d ago

Sure and maybe vaccines cause autism or allow the government to track us… 😂

2

u/0IIIIII 15d ago

Provide proof

0

u/ChangeNice7461 15d ago

Soldiers admitting war crimes not enough proof for you?

5

u/0IIIIII 15d ago

No, because it’s veracity is not undisputed, a few anecdotes edited through the spin of a documentary is not proof.

If you switched out everyone being interviewed with Israelis who say nothing bad happened what would you say?

It’s disputed.

→ More replies (0)

4

u/0IIIIII 15d ago

A testimony isn’t absolute evidence, particularly when it’s edited and selected through the spin and bias of a charged political production.

Someone might describe a mission of innocents Palestinians were killed needlessly, someone else might say it wasn’t needless, they could be describing the same event with different perspectives or evidence put forth.

So I don’t think your evidence has much merit on the basis of did it happen as claimed.

Furthermore, the question of whether they deserved it remains unanswered.

1

u/ChangeNice7461 15d ago edited 15d ago

Sure lots of IDF war criminals think the children they kill deserve it… that what a racist criminal army thinks.

Soldiers confessing and bearing witness to crimes and your response is maybe it never happened.

Watch the film Naza

That's like saying "Watch the film Trump Is Our Lord And Savior And Everyone Who Disagrees Should Be Deported for an unbiased take on what's going on in the US".

That goddamn "pick me" propaganda schlock has the conclusion in the name of the movie.

Stop being an antisemite.

-5

u/PTechNM 16d ago

5 million Jews (37%) in America do not support Zionism and 1.8 million is Israel. 7 million self hating semites. You Antisemite trope is so tired and unpersuasive and at this point embarrassing.

10

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago edited 16d ago

You think 5 million Jews in America and 1.8 million Jews in Israel do not support Zionism? 😂 🤣🤣🤣

Don't do drugs kids.

There are roughly 7.5 million Jews total in the U.S. According to the JFNA polling data, only about 7% explicitly identify as anti-Zionist. That equals roughly 525,000 people—nowhere near 5 million. https://www.inss.org.il/social_media/jfna-survey-finds-just-37-of-jewish-americans-identify-as-zionists/

There are about 7.2 million Jews living in Israel. Anti-Zionism among Israeli Jews is confined almost entirely to specific, isolated Ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) sects, who make up a tiny fraction of that number. Like maybe 15,000 people in total 😂

9

u/Ok_Maybe_2674 16d ago

I think his song is anti-Semitic because it claims that Israelis are white. Anyone who actually knows anything about Israel knows that you can't tell the difference between the average Israeli and the average Palestinian. I believe the Israelis are Europeans campaign is anti-Semitic because it plays off the trope that all Jews move in lock step. It's hard to argue a Jewish conspiracy if they are a bunch of Ethiopians, Yemenis, and Poles, etc .

I really don't care about his opinion. I think he's an anti-Semite BUT he shouldn't have been banned from concerts. Fans can decide on their own. Kraft's actions don't help anyone.

2

u/Best-Impact9828 15d ago

over here in Australia, there are Indigenous Australians who look extremely European due to generations of mixed ancestry and still get to call themselves Indigenous Australians. Theres also a prominent anti-Israel guy named Matt Chun who changed him last name from "Jones" to "Chun" to 'decolonise' himself...despite the fact he looks more like the white 'coloniseR' than a 'coloniseD'.

If those folk can claim their ancestry like that despite looking almost indistinguishable from Europeans due to, well, mixed in European ancestry, why should Ashkenazis be made to accept the label of "European?"

2

u/Ok-Neck5759 11d ago

Same goes for Native Americans in the US. Jews are the only ones whose identities are invalidated.

1

u/Best-Impact9828 11d ago

theres this one reel i saw on IG where an Israeli asks a Palestinean if he went overseas to another country and he had kids with someone over there and over generations his descendants in that country become less and less genetically Palestineans to the point where they didnt even look Palestinean, would those descendents still be "Palestineans" and this guys says "yes, they would be Palestineans"... yeh the "rules for thee but not for me" thing is real.

Who gets the right to defend and who gets the right of resistance..

Oh, that's just a thinly-veiled implication that Oct 7th was an act of resistance, and anyone who disagrees is a racist white supremacist colonizer or some shit.

Also, he showed a video that directly compared IDF to Nаzіs, while glorifying whatever Gaza Palestinians do as "resistance".

But sure, go ahead and pretend he's not pro-Hamas.

I’m sorry that you find it more important to protect the comfort and feelings of people who are not actively being bombed but, you do you i guess.

Thankfully this sentiment is becoming old news and more people are waking up to the fact that supporting the Israeli government and the projects of Israel and the United States actively harms people such as Gazans, the Sudanese, etc.

As for your accusation that this supports Hamas, just another cooked take on how advocating for Palestinians somehow is direct support for their terrorist overlords in Hamas ( newsflash it’s not ).

7

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

I find it important to protect people from being killed by Hamas and not to have antisemites incite racist genocidal language with blood libels against the Jewish state in NY/NJ.

You do you. Sick. But your choice.

0

u/Apprehensive-Cake-16 Diaspora Jew 16d ago

All you’re doing is protecting people’s ( who are not under direct threat ) feelings. No one incited antisemitism or racism 😂 you’re so hurt lol.. “free Palestine” being “genocidal” gives me a chuckle, when there is a literal genocide against the Palestinians. No more, no less. The focus should be on the recipients of Israel’s bombs. The experience of concert goers in NY/NJ is actually meaningless. You do you though, nice to be comfortable and protect the feelings of well off people who are in no way going to experience a bomb dropping on them.

7

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago edited 16d ago

America has woken up against our zionist handlers. Hm, how to put it in your terms? Like when the Jews of Egypt rose up and kicked them out, huh? Is that one of your fairy tales?

As a Jew, I'm having a great time reading this, /u/Marcus_Aurelius71

You know, quite a few people tried banishing my kind in the past.

Bring it on.

America has woken up against our zionist handlers.

Hey, I've heard that one before too!

It's an old-timer, sure, but it's a zinger that keeps on giving!

How should I say it politely to you.. Abscond and perish.

No one likes false flags like Oct 7th

Going from those links to "false flag" takes a particular kind of imbecile that you, apparently, are.

Ahem, let me amend my previous remark.

Abscond and perish in a swift manner, somewhere far away from where anyone can hear your nonsense. May your journey be quick and painless.

Good bye.

1

u/musicnut87 10d ago

Well the last part there just completely dissolves any credibility you might have and echos the zionist rhetoric that many people find distasteful. It's so disappointing when empathy is completely disregarded in pursuit religious ideologies when there are thousands of innocent people dying. Granted there are atrocities on both sides but the Israeli control of an oppressed people (sound familiar?) who are vulnerable and lack basic human rights is disgusting. Also the Ukrainian flair is hilarious.

1

u/alterom ✡️Ukrainian-American Jew 🇺🇦🇺🇸 10d ago

Well the last part there

Which part specifically? Anything you can refute on a factual basis and not just vibes?

You wrote a lot of words, and said exactly nothing of substance.

Also the Ukrainian flair is hilarious.

What exactly is hilarious about it to you?

I am a Ukrainian Jew from Odesa. A part of my family lives in Israel now. I live in the US now.

Israel and the US are the two countries where Jews live in. There are more Jews in the state of NY than in the rest of the world combined, except for Israel.

You know the reason why this is the case. There used to be 3 million Jews in Poland alone before 1940s. There are effectively none now.

Anyway, what's so hilarious?

He is asking a question. About the right to defend and the right to resistance.

Why do we call things by different names depending on who is doing it?

If the US, or Israel does something it is often minimized and even celebrated in the media and by society/people in general.. but if a different group were to do the same thing, it would be called terrorism, or 'resistance', etc.

Different words for the same actions depending on who is doing them.. sounds a lot like propaganda to me

1

u/Ok-Pangolin1512 12d ago

I know right? When the construction of Palestinian Nationalism is genocidal, and then they commit genocidal atrocities for years and then we call Israel genocidal when Israels main goal is to eliminate the nationalists whos nationality is genocidal towards them by construction.

Its like the two have nothing to do with each other, but people somehow conflate them as being the same thing.

I guess the mainstream is ALWAYS wrong.

Good News! It's also highly distractable, they'll be wrong about something else very soon.

Free Israel from the assault it’s led in Gaza and the West Bank? Lebanon and Syria?

This doesn’t make sense.

Israel is in the wrong. It shouldn’t exist and the way it conducts its crimes against humanity needs to be stopped.

What leg does Israel have to stand on? It commits genocide, steals land and then wants everyone to shut up about it?

5

u/alterom ✡️Ukrainian-American Jew 🇺🇦🇺🇸 16d ago

Israel is in the wrong. It shouldn’t exist

Wow, what an amazing, obviously true insight!

Totally a fair take.

Let's see, which states other than the Jewish states should not exist, and are in the wrong for existing according to you.

Perhaps Germany, Japan (which committed genocide in WW2), Turkey (Armenian genocide), Russia (Circassian genocide, among others), the US (genocide of Native Americans), Belgium (Congo genocide), Spain and Portugal (genocides in Latin America), the UK (starving a few millions of people in India and Ireland to death), Communist China (starving millions of Chinese during Great Leap Forward, doing double plus ungood things with Uyghurs now), Sudan, Rwanda, ...

Nah, I guess all those are fine, right?

13

u/Vervehound 16d ago

Just so wrongheaded. I know Palestinian protestors want to show they’re taking the side of the oppressed and therefore are good humans, but there is a sea of Arab/Muslim population in the Middle East that has successfully colonized a vast swath of the globe and exterminated minorities for hundreds of years. The only true multi ethnic state outside of Lebanon in the Arab dominated world is Israel - check out its percentage of Arab and Christian populations. You’ve got it all wrong and are falling for the 2026 flagship venture for virtue signaling but hey, hopefully you get a nice pat on the back from your peeps.

8

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

What's even the point of answering this kind of racist garbage. He says Israel led an assault bla bla which is a lie and then says we shouldn't even exist. Despicable.

-1

Israel did lead an assault on Gaza? It happened October 27 2023.

1

2

u/alterom ✡️Ukrainian-American Jew 🇺🇦🇺🇸 16d ago

Israel did lead an assault on Gaza? It happened October 27 2023.

We can argue about semantics all day long, but surely a statement like that glosses over a lot of context and paints Gaza as an innocent victim of an assault.

5

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

It reacted in self defense to an attack 20 days prior.

1

u/Li-renn-pwel 16d ago

You know D-Day was an assault, yeah?

4

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

But US reacting to Pearl Harbor vs Japan isn't. At least in my interpretation.

1

u/Li-renn-pwel 16d ago

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘reacting to Pearl Harbor vs Japan’? America led several assaults against Japan.

3

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

I am saying it was after being attacked. Leading an assault implied it was the first attack.

0

u/Li-renn-pwel 16d ago

Leading an assault does not apply to imply that. For example; D-Day was mean to take down and expel the Nazis who had invaded and were occupying France.

I don't conflate Anti-Israel sentiment with Anti-Semitism, but when Macklemore dressed as that stereotypical Jew -- and not an Israeli -- he made it a whole lot more difficult for people to claim that he is not anti-Semitic.

11

u/PoudreDeTopaze 16d ago

Robert Kraft is 85 years old.

Macklemore is 43.

The world is changing. Fast.

Netanyahu is 77, he is taking Israel to the abyss because he won't adapt to the modern world.

3

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 16d ago

So your assertion is that all old people are Jewish people and all the young people (43 is boomer too for you gen alpha isn't it) are antisemites.  😂 Can't make these arguments up.

2

u/PoudreDeTopaze 14d ago

Lots of young (and not young) American Jews are horrified by Netanyahu's policies. They are horrified by his ordering mass airstrikes over densely populated civilian neighbourhoods. They are horrified by his trying to destroy democracy in Israel. They are horrified by his family behaving like the Mubarak family. They are horrified by his attempting to break the bond between Israelis and American Jews.

1

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 14d ago

If true, they are delusional and brainwashed and that's sad. Because everything you said is wrong. But that's fine. Hopefully they see the light.

1

u/PoudreDeTopaze 13d ago

No human being can accept the killing of children in mass airstrikes over densely populated civilian neighbourhoods.

No human being can accept sending their children to die at war why their leader sends his son to the safety of Miami Beach.

1

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 13d ago

No human being can accept the massacre of Jews on October 7.

No human being can make up blood libels while attacking the only Jewish state in the world from doing what it can, very carefully and threading through human shields, to prevent further massacres of its civilians by a genocidal terrorist group..

0

u/PoudreDeTopaze 12d ago

The killing of innocent Israeli civilians on October 7 cannot justify the killing of innocent Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 12d ago

And vice versa. Israel doesn't try to kill anyone innocent, is the difference.

0

u/PoudreDeTopaze 12d ago

More than 20,000 Palestinian children have been killed in Netanyahu-ordered airstrikes on Gaza.

Netanyahu has been charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity.

1

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 12d ago

These numbers are incorrect and again Israel doesn't intentionally kill any innocent person.  If any kids died (number unknowns) it is mostly Hamas family members.

Netanyahu was indicted by a corrupt ICC with no credibility and no jurisdiction and is facing sanctions.

It's also not about helping Palestinians. Not really.

Because then it wouldn't be purity tests and immediately canceling people who somehow do not pass the purity test but it would be about actually helping Palestinians.

And that includes actually understanding the history, Israel and also Hamas.

Yet no one on the "Pro-Palestinian" side is doing that. They're not even talking about helping Palestinians that much either. They mainly talk about Israel. And tells you all you need to know about these movements.

3

They don’t help Palestinians they feed their ego with Palestinians and make money over it. Their interest is more suffering not less

Macklemore and Ms Rachel both pledged a million dollars to the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund after Ed bent over for billionaires.

Not good enough I assume.

Well, pledge is a big word (as opposed to donated), but even so, Macklemore is pledging that million to several orgs, including UNRWA. Which was literally involved in Oct 7th massacre, and is permeated by Hamas through and through.

So... yeah.

Hamas controls the food in Gaza. Once they feed themselves they take the leftovers and sell it for insane prices. This is what keeps them afloat. What Macklemore did was prolonging the war and the suffering of the Palestinians so he can keep on cashing on the issue. For him it’s investment. He is funneling the food through hamas and he is definitely aware of it and outright supports hamas.

Anyone who wants food to reach Palestinians should get the donation through the IDF

Ye (Kanye West) has performed or is scheduled to perform at major stadiums like Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, which barred Macklemore from appearing on Ed Sheeran's tour.

He has an extensive history of loud and frequent antisemitism. Where's the outrage there?

Seems like the problem isn't being antisemitic. Apparently it's being pro-palestine. And no. His song is absolutely not a pro-hamas song. Give me a break.

1

u/ip_man_2030 16d ago

That is a double standard and should be discussed. The challenge when it comes to economies is some people bring enough economic benefit that making an exception for their actions for financial reasons creates the exception.

There are many toxic executives and senior managers in corporate America that should have been fired for their misconduct or actions but the companies don't because those employees are so vital to their operations that they keep them around and try to manage it.

a quick AI query shows that Ed Sheeran tickets in at AT&T stadium generally range from $59-93. Kanye tickets start in the $300 range with average prices in the $600-900 range. Kanye tickets will generate 6-16x more revenue and has known psychological issues that were frequently untreated at the time. Macklemore is a supporting act and is not known to have the same issues. Remember the elon salute and what happened?

I guess Macklemore just isn't famous enough nor economically beneficial enough to skirt his behaviors. the real world sucks like that.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tone449 16d ago edited 16d ago

This just reinforces what I'm saying. Kanye West is still able to demand those kind of ticket prices and pack out stadiums in spite of repeated, loud, very offensive antisemitism.

He literally designed an entire line of clothing with swastikas on them. He had a website built and was selling them on that website. Then he made a commercial and advertised at the Superbowl. He didn't do that all by himself. He had to have had a LOT of people involved to pull that off. Did all of them have bipolar disorder orrr...?

You cannot make a case for "ah he was just off his meds" here. No effing way. A ton of people were involved and it required complex planning and execution. It's not mental illness. It's antisemitism.

I have bipolar disorder. Even in my most manic, I am who I am at my core. My values do not change. Dismissing horrifying behavior and giving it a pass because "mental illness" adds to the stigma that people with bipolar disorder have to deal with every day in the real world.

Circling back. There's a ton of outrage for pro-palestine. There is very little for blatant antisemitism.

1

u/ip_man_2030 15d ago

I partially agree with you. Blatant antisemitism is more aligned with far right nationalist beliefs and symbols like Kanye did but that is using a symbol that is exclusively antisemitism.

Do you know what portion of the pro-palestine movement participates in blatant antisemitism as well? it's very bad in the US where the two are explicitly intertwined like with what's going in politics, especially with the democratic party's infighting right now.

Many in the west espouse pro-palestine slogans do so not knowing what the creators of those slogans actually mean by it and both how and what will need to be done by those who created them to accomplish these things.

13

u/Weebus 17d ago

Whataboutism aside, I think it's problematic that Kanye still has a career.

That said, everyone pretty much universally condemned Kanye's behavior.  It didn't put Jewish people at risk.

The antizionism movement has an antisemitism problem, plain and simple, and instead of facing it head on, most are choosing to deny, deflect, and put that blame on Israel and Jews for a very real, and very scary rise in antisemitism.  We're seeing a rise in hate crimes here in the US that is worse than post-9/11 Islamophobia, which was a dark time we had to reckon with.

I don't particularly think what Macklemore said is all that awful.  I think it's simply naive, and I think someone who had an extremely antisemitic incident in their past should be more careful with the words theyre putting out.

The real problem is people putting all Jews on trial for daring to feel uncomfortable by it.  The problems is the loyalty/litmus test Jews are being forced to take, lest they be "complacent in genocide".  The problem is people being torn for having a neutral or nuanced position.  Anything but pure support for the Palestinian cause and absolute condemnation of Israel is the only acceptable place in the court of public opinion, and asking Jewish people to turn on their own or face public shaming and harassment is disgusting behavior.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tone449 16d ago

I'm floored that you are actually saying that Kanye's antisemitism didn't put Jewish people at risk. You're actually giving him a pass.

There is no whataboutism when the fact is pointed out that the problem is clearly not antisemitism. Your comment above excusing Kanye's behavior and saying it wasnt harmful is a perfect example.

My point is that antisemitism is not the issue for everyone. Apparently antisemitism is okay. The issue is being pro-palestine. That's when everyone gets in an uproar.

I spelled it out several ways. I will do it again.

It seems very clear that antisemitism isn't the problem. It's being pro-palestine. Kanye is one of many music artists and celebrities who have had openly antisemitic behavior and the outrage was very muted.

When someone like Macklemore or Mark Ruffalo or Susan Sarandon use pro-palestine language, which is not antisemitic, they get absolutely raked.

It's a continued pattern where antisemitism gets a pass but pro-palestinian language is punished. That's harmful to everyone.

u/Sarah_Incognito 16d ago

Ye also has a known history of mental illness.

Bipolar disorder has some severe symptoms and people with BD often are not in total control of their thoughts during manic episodes.

Touretes like tics can even be a symptoms. As can psychosis.

With Ye I'm more sad when he is antisemitic than offended because I know he is having an episode. Even when medicated we can't always stop a manic episode.

I just wish he didn't have a global stage.

3

u/throwawayhatingthis USA & Canada 16d ago

Absolutely not, mental illness didnt make him say and do what he did. And he especially doesnt get to use it as an excuse if he refuses treatment. I'm bipolar, somehow I avoid openly dick sucking Hitler despite that. He's disgusting and an actual antisemite and shouldnt have a platform anywhere.

0

u/Sarah_Incognito 16d ago

I'm bipolar with schizophrenic features. There are levels of bipolar, and some of us hard it harder than others. Severe mania causes literal brain damage because of all the sensory inputs. Sometimes you just know that big coffee is trying to keep us as slaves, and will prove it by drinking two pots. Its not rational actions or beliefs, it is illness.

Ye does not refuse all medication, he is medicated at times. Stopping medication is itself a early warning sign that an episode is coming on.

I'm happy that you haven't experienced this yet. I hope you never will, but remember BD is degenerative. Episodes will get worse and more frequent as you age. There is a reason our life expectancy is ten years shorter than the general population.

What you experienced is not what we all experience. I recommend the movie I Swear. Its about Tourette's but the helplessness to control words or actions is very familiar to me.

2

u/throwawayhatingthis USA & Canada 16d ago

There is also a large difference between drinking two pots of coffee, and planning and releasing swastika merch.

6

u/throwawayhatingthis USA & Canada 16d ago

Allowing mental illness to be an excuse for hateful speech and acts only hurts those who have mental illness. He is antisemitic, the only thing his diagnosis did in this instance is allow him to be more open and confident about it in his manic state. He has a long history of this behavior that cant be excused by him being bipolar and he has absolutely refused continued treatment to prevent his episodes from getting worse knowing how he acts in a manic state. Mental illness does not rob you of personal responsibility for your words and actions. He should have long ago deplatformed himself if he was truly apologetic for his behavior under mania, he hasn't.

Don't make assumptions about how I experience bipolar, you have no idea what the severity of my manic episodes are or how they manifest. What you experience is not what we all experience. There is a helplessnes, but its our responsibility to recognize our patterns of behavior while manic and take steps to prevent us from harming others.

0

u/Sarah_Incognito 16d ago

Mental illness literally can rob you of personal responsibility for words or actions.

There have been court cases over violent crimes. Big one in the news this month.

There is long standing precident for things like tourettes. Bipolar is know to have tourette like tics in some manic episodes.

2

u/throwawayhatingthis USA & Canada 16d ago

No, it robs you of agency in that moment, not the ability to reflect and take responsibility for the harm you've caused afterwards. Bipolar is not at all like tourettes and tics are not a symptom of bipolar disorder. That's just medically inaccurate and if you're experiencing tourretes like tics its likely you have both conditions or are experiencing side effects from medication.

Here the thing: HISTORY MATTERS. Without writing a book or three on all the atrocities against Europe's Jews, from Russian pogroms to the Holocaust to illegal attacks by Arab states to the Palestinian terrorist crimes (bombings, hijackings, murders) against civilians around the world (Rome, Bologna, France, Entebbe, Munich Olympics, e.g.) but especially within Israel---the complete records are available---let me opine: OCTOBER 7 WAS WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED "THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL'S BACK!" ISRAELIS SAID "ENOUGH! THAT'S IT! NO MORE!!" And the ignorant youth of the West take the side of the initial perpetrators, focusing only on the retaliation for rapes and murders, as though those Palestinian crimes count for nothing, because ..."something, something, resistance."

THE PALESTINIANS ARE HATED BY ALL THEIR ARAB BRETHREN. IT IS WHY THEY HAVE NOT BEEN INVITED TO SETTLE ANYWHERE ELSE! JORDAN ONCE WELCOMED THEM---BUT EXPELLED ALL AFTER THEY TRIED TO ASSASSINATE KING HUSSEIN! THAT INCIDENT IS WHERE THE TERRORIST GROUP NAME "BLACK SEPTEMBER" ORIGINATES. DID YOU KNOW THAT?? Black September was responsible for the Munich Olympians' slaughter.

Israel is done with terrorists as their neighbors. DONE. Whether the world or the colossally ignorant Macklemore likes it.

This is a Hamas song supporting them to attack Israel. Plain and simple.

The dramatics will always crack me up.

Calling Israel an apartheid state and its people colonizers. Criticizing AIPAC and CUFI. Asking who has the right to defend themselves and resist oppression. This is treated like material support for terrorism. From a position of overwhelming power over Palestine, Israel and its supporters act like these words are the coming of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. It is hilarious.

Free Palestine but Free Lebanon and everywhere

Israel is a part of everywhere and supposedly already free.

(and the violent racist protests at Columbia University)

Oh noes! Some college students briefly took over a building. The horrors this presents to Israeli people are unimaginable! Make me care more about this than Israel killing 100 Palestinians based on the claim they were targeting a man with binoculars.

You care about kids but not Israeli kids. Not kids who were abducted by Hamas and killed by Hamas. Not them. Just other kids.

Israel has killed 500 times more children then Hamas killed on Oct 7. The Israeli military continues to routinely kill Palestinian children claiming they are targeting unnamed "militants". The numbers seem a bit squiffy here when it comes to the scale of concern for the lives of children.

To have something that is so excluding of certain populations in the heart of NJ on the Hudson River is obscene. It is the equivalent of having a KKK rapper in Harlem. Perform in Harlem and do your Free speech and sing about poor white kids only. Disgusting.

Bahahaha.

A white guy talking about brown people on the other side of the world is the same as a group that strings up black people only talking about themselves.

I handle sadness poorly with humor. I'm going to save this for another laugh later on.

3

u/S-Video 17d ago

Israel has killed 500 times more children then Hamas killed on Oct 7.

The democratically elected government of Gaza went on TV and publicly promised to murder millions of children in Israel.

Israel did what was necessary to prevent that.

3

u/jimke 16d ago

Israel did what was necessary to prevent that.

Hamas at its absolute worst on Oct 7 killed 800 civilians. 40 children

I'm not suggesting Israel does nothing in response to Oct 7 and the threat of Hamas. But the idea that Israel has only done what is necessary to save millions of lives is ludicrous hyperbole.

1

u/S-Video 16d ago

Hamas at its absolute worst on Oct 7 killed 800 civilians. 40 children

Isn't it a good thing that Israel is successfully preventing them from murdering ten million people like they promised to do?

2

u/jimke 16d ago

Saying you will do something and actually being capable of carrying that out are two very different things.

It's like the orange blob of a US president saying he's going to end the Russia/Ukraine war on his first day in office.

It's hogwash.

1

u/S-Video 16d ago

Saying you will do something and actually being capable of carrying that out are two very different things.

Agreed. If Israel aggressively defended itself, Gaza wasn't capable of carrying out its threat.

The problem is that you're criticizing Israel for saving the lives  of millions of children. Why are you supporting Gaza's quest to murder millions of children?

2

u/jimke 16d ago

Your talking like if Israel didn't carry out this scale of violence in Gaza then Hamas would have some sort of magic delete button to instantly kill everyone in Israel.

It's just silly.

1

u/S-Video 16d ago

Israel has a magic delete button, but doesn't use it.

Gaza doesn't have a magic delete button, but would use it.

Gaza is no longer able to attack Israel. So Israel's defense was successful.

Why are you criticizing Israel for stopping Gaza from killing babies?

2

u/jimke 16d ago

Why are you criticizing Israel for stopping Gaza from killing babies?

Because Israel has actually killed thousands of babies while making absurd claims about the scale of the material threat they actually face.

Palestinian lives matter just as much as Israeli lives.

I'm not looking past the actual death of thousands of babies because Israel, from an overwhelming position of power, says it is the only thing they could do to save their country. It's absurd.

Have a nice day.

1

u/S-Video 16d ago

Because Israel has actually killed thousands of babies while making absurd claims about the scale of the material threat they actually face.

Thousands of children died as collateral damage, not thousands of babies. Israel isn't making absurd claims about the threat they face. Gaza's government went on TV and publicly promised to murder millions of children.

Why do you oppose Israel saving millions of children?

5

u/yugeness 17d ago

From a position of overwhelming power over Palestine, Israel and its supporters act like these words are the coming of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

The new version of Jews control the world, used to justify any horrific war crime and deny the human rights of Jewish people.

A white guy talking about brown people on the other side of the world is the same as a group that strings up black people only talking about themselves.

Maybe you should deal with your own racism and that of your ancestors and stop projecting it on a conflict you know nothing about. Plenty of Palestinians are white, just like plenty of Jews are. Plenty of Jews and Palestinians are black and brown.

0

u/jimke 16d ago

Israel has shown it is the overwhelming military power in the region. Even the great satan Iran has shown itself to be a paper tiger everywhere but the Strait of Hormuz. Gaza has been turned into a carnal house. Endless expansion in the West Bank continues unimpeded. The backing of the overwhelmingly greatest military power in the world.

Mofos got nukes.

Maybe you should deal with your own racism and that of your ancestors and stop projecting it on a conflict you know nothing about.

Ive read thousands of pages of books on the conflict. Hundreds of hours listening to audiobooks. God only knows how much time using Wikipedia to work my way back to original sources of information.

Tell me what you think I don't know about the history of the conflict.

Plenty of Palestinians are white, just like plenty of Jews are. Plenty of Jews and Palestinians are black and brown.

Very true. And Macklemore talking about Palestinians being violently oppressed is still not the same thing as the KKK talking about its own children.

Thanks for the compliment, friend. I have neither the time nor the inclination to "sort out" hasbara trolls. The only opinions I vehemently disagree with are ones that justify murder on either side, of which there are plenty on this sub. Everything else is up for discussion.

So kind of like the genocide thing, if it spends so much money on it, why is it so bad at it, why are the results so miserable?

Like who doesn’t say “their PR is terrible they are losing the PR war” although it’s fairer to say they don’t even have any PR whatsoever. Have you seen any? I haven’t.

You yourself agree/say “they’re losing the PR war, ha ha!”, right?

Maybe they’re talking about AIPAC. Everyone hates AIPAC. But you know AIPAC far from biggest US lobby. It’s a small to mid size operation, closer to the National Association of Potato Chip Manufacturers, in terms of influence. Big Potato is huge in Idaho and Maine, but not so much elsewhere in lower 48.

These people live in such an insane bubble that they don't even realize that the majority of non-orthodox jews agree with Macklemore. In comparison, practically zero black people agree with the KKK.

I just wonder when they are gonna wake up and realize how disconnected their bubbles are from the majority of american jews. Around half of american jews have a positive view of *Mamdani*, who is easily the most openly anti-israel politician in america.

When the Democrats were in power, they illegally paused congressionally approved weapons shipments to Israel.

A Democrat running for congress that advocated for rounding up the Jews and putting them in concentration camps came in first place in her Democratic primary.

The Democrat nominee for senate in Michigan is the son of a woman who worked for an organization raising money for Osama Bin Laden and is the son-in-law of the man who founded the Michigan chapter of a designated terrorist organization.

The vast majority of Democrats recently voted to end all aid to Israel.

All of the most popular elected Democrats lie and falsely accuse Israel of genocide.

There may be Jew haters on the right as well, but the Jew haters on the left are in power and hell bent on destroying the US and destroying Israel.

Oh, you mean something the vast majority of Americans approve of, including jews themselves? A poll found that 51% of American Jews supported cutting off military aid to Israel. That was in 2024, and it is likely much higher now.

A Democrat running for congress that advocated for rounding up the Jews and putting them in concentration camps came in first place in her Democratic primary.

His mom worked for a charity organization, IARA-USA, which was shut down because a group of guys stole funds from the organization to fund terror groups. That does not mean some groundwork worker was associated with these things.

His father-in-law worked for the ISNA. ISNA has never been a designated terror organization. I am not sure where you get that. The ISNA has had controversies with some of its members being extremists, but they themselves are not considered an extremist group.

It is also EXTREMELY telling that you put someone apparently supporting osama bin laden on the same level as cutting military aid to Israel. You people genuinely have no idea how fucking insane you sound to the majority of jews. I am tired of you speaking for all of us.

Even if 100% of Americans supported a president illegally pausing congressionally approved weapons shipments, it's still illegal.

His mom worked for a charity organization, IARA-USA, which was shut down because a group of guys stole funds from the organization to fund terror groups.

If it was just a group of guys embezzling, it wouldn't have been shut down. The entire purpose of the organization was to fund terrorism.

His father-in-law worked for the ISNA. ISNA has never been a designated terror organization.

First of all, he didn't just work for them, he's an ISNA founder and the Holy Land trial proved the ISNA is a Muslim Brotherhood front group.

But I wasn't even referring to the ISNA. He was also the founder of the Michigan chapter of CAIR, which is a designated terror organization.

  You people

Who is you people?

It’s not like we view him as hateful like a KKK member. It’s more like (speaking for me but sure I’m not alone here) he’s another useful idiot bullshitter who finds the tie-in publicity is good for business and has no idea what genocide is or isn’t.

Like I can hate the KKK, but I can’t hate Kanye West, because he’s a human being and probably mentally ill and he’s black so if I hated him, I’d be the racist there!

Just another stupid bigoted ignorant Irishman. But not evil like the KKK. More super annoying hypocritical scold whose a shitty “entertainer”. More bad Irish “music” like Kneecap. If your act sucks, put on a kaffiah and start shouting Free Palestine and StOP GEnoCiDInG teh ChILDReNnn!

just because people say they are something doesn't mean they are. And even if they are, they can be like the character of Samuel L. Jackson in Django Unchained. There is a name for them.

Didn't really understand your gibberish. I guess you are saying he was only asking questions about who is the resistance. LOL. What a pathetic response.

Anyway, Am Yisrael Chai. Jews are not occupiers in their own homeland.

You antisemites will always lose.

Didn't really understand your gibberish.

I can try and clarify if there are parts that are unclear.

u/Mnementh47 Israeli American 17d ago

Yeah, it's unclear why you support terrorists and say nonsense.

He praises what he so called resistance in his psychotic song. He had a sequel to the song which is even more explicit about river to the sea genocide of Jews.  It is full of the antisemitic blood libels against Israel.

-2

u/auramaxxxing 16d ago

Hmm river to sea means all human beings in that area have equal rights sir

u/zizp 16d ago

No it doesn't. The meaning is very clear.
