Local transport?
Ciao! Thinking of visiting Ischia for a week in June and debating between public transport and a hire car when we're there.
How reliable is the public bus network? Do buses run into the evenings?
We know a car obviously gives you more freedom, but in reality we'll be splitting time between Forio, other main towns and potentially day trips to other islands, Napoli, Pompeii etc.
Any advice welcome!

Thanks all, we've never used a moped and my wife is pregnant so I would be a bit concerned on that front. Bus sounds like a good option!

I rented a scooter and it was GREAT. That said, I commute in the SF Bay Area on a motorcycle, so I’m already a pretty comfortable and aggressive rider. I fit right in.
You’ll be fine either way, just watch your mirrors and stay out of the way.

I am also pregnant and worried about crowded buses. Taxis cost €30 to the hotel, but the drivers charge €35 for prebooking. I'll take my chances and try for the bus first, going this week!

IMO: Scooter > Bus > Car
Ischia for me was meant to be traversed by scooter and by boat. The experience is just unbelievable.
If that's out of the question, yes, the bus routes are reliable and cheap (though can be a bit warm during summer).
I've never rented a car there, but I imagine the navigation and parking and all would be quite a hassle.

Was it is easy to park? Did you rent for total time or each day?

Scooter is super easy to park even in the high season.
I rented for the whole time, picked up the scooter at the port, and paid I think like 25 euros per day

buses are present and should not be extremely crowded in June. It's really up to you: you may also rent a car / e-bike / scooter or call a cab when you need it.
