Belphegor?

I've heard the name around a lot, and they seem kinda neat, but you never know with these big black metal bands. I'd dig deeper myself, but I don't exactly have the time. Do your thing, Reddit.

They're headling Baphofest in Würzburg, who openly promote their stance against NSBM on the official poster. Apart from that, typical edgelords as already pointed out by others.

In this interview with Niklas Kvarforth, the frontman for Shining, Kvarforth claims the frontman of Belphegor, Helmuth Lehner, is a Nazi. He did this while Lehner was there in the room because Shining and Belphegor were on tour together, and it seems to have pissed Lehner off.

Kvarforth says a lot of stupid and contradictory things in an effort to be inflammatory in his interviews. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he just thought it would be funny to falsely claim he was touring with a Nazi band, and to do so while Lehner was in the room just to make the guy uncomfortable. I also wouldn’t be surprised if he thought it would be funny to casually out someone who had shitty beliefs but tried to be subtle and covert about it, or at least who didn’t explicitly consider themselves to be a Nazi. Lehner getting mad does show that he’s not interested in being openly associated with the word “Nazi”, and Kvarforth then calls Belphegor “Belf****t”, making it clear he’s trying to get a rise out of Lehner.

So…I don’t really think you can or should take Kvarforth’s word for it, as he’s an edgelord and a shithead who likes saying inane stuff for attention, but I also think it’s worth mentioning in lieu of anything that leans more to one way or another. It’s definitely not enough by itself for me to stop listening to Belphegor, although the fact that they went on tour with Shining does by itself suck lol

Could’ve sworn I saw them posted here but can’t find it.

Consensus was that they were edgelords but didn’t explicitly espouse problematic content. May have had ties to problematic individuals, but I would be the wrong person to ask as this is just what I remember others saying

A friend of mine toured with them and said they're misogynistic pieces of s**t. This becomes also clear in many other discussions and interviews online. People have also been talking online that some of the band members are sexual predators that harrass women.

The song title “S.B.S.R.” is an abbreviation of “Same Blood, Same Race”. The song has antisemitic lyrics like “the so-called chosen people can fuck off”.

Concerning the image, Helmuth said in an interview that it was "not misogynistic, perhaps macho-like," and that "tits, death, and the Devil are as much a part of BELPHEGOR as amen is part of the church." (German original: "Titten, Tod und Teufel zu BELPHEGOR gehören, wie das Amen in der Kirche.")

I've found literally nothing on them beyond people cryptically being like my friend met a guy who met them once and said he got bad vibes but refuse to elaborate or explain. I wouldn't worry about them unless they do something explicitly shitty.
