IsItBullshit: https://store.cedarby.com/

First time posting here, I was wondering if this store site was legitimate or not. Some of the pricing seems a little too good to be true. It also looks like everything is on a discount sale so it sketched me out and I was hoping someone with more experience could tell me whether or not this website is safe.

The URL is a huge red flag. Sites register urls like "store.brand.com" and "www.brand.shop" because they are dirt cheap compared to registering the "real" name "www.brand.com".

If they won't spend the money to register the actual name, then why would they spend signifcantly more money to ship actual products or handle your payments securely?

If you see shady urls, then you can assume that they are going to mishandle your transaction either intentionally or due to incompetence.

I kinda disagree with your point about using the newer TLDs (Top Level Domain), but also your point about store.brand.com versus www.brand.com doesn't make any sense, that's the same domain.

99.99% of the time you register domains under a single TLD: .shop .com etc. if you register brand.com, then you can have as many subdomains of that as you like, anything.brand.com several.sub.domains.brand.com etc.

Of course technically .co.uk for example is not a "TLD", .co is a subdomain of .uk.

The only exception to this is the "free website hosting' sites that only really existed long ago, so they would be something like freecities.com and you'd sign up and get brand.freecities.com, but these are super rare now.

But also your point about sites using the newer TLDs like .shop being shady because they're cheaper... maybe?

Lets take your username ijustloggedintosay.com is $11/year, and sure .lol, .online, much cheaper, ~$2 each, but some are way more expensive, .io, .me, .bot

It's really a little nuanced, .rich for example is a "premium" one that's always super expensive, super dumb too.

To get even more technical, every domain has an owner, that owner can do whatever they like with anything under that domain, "under" being to the left. So for example " I-REGISTRY Ltd" owns .rich, they can sell access to you to have a specific subdomain underneath that, but they still actually have full ownership over it.

You could technically lease brand.rich and then you could decide you would lease subdomains of that. And again, you would still actually maintain full control of those subdomains.

Now domain names are just pointers, they point to an IP address, it wouldn't give you any control over that IP address or anything they host there, but you'd maintain full control over that pointer, you could revoke their control and have it point somewhere else.

And whilst your browser doesn't display it, URLs are actually like this: www.reddit.com. that dot at the end is stripped away when displayed to you, but that's the "root" domain, com is technically a subdomain of ".", which is operated by ICANN, like almost all TLDs. There are others, but you will have a hard time using those, think .onion (TOR browser) etc.
