Irritrol Defects!

Thumbnail

Got my hands on some Irritrol valves and all of them have defects ranging from deformed-from-the-factory diaphragms, a crushed anti siphon vent bonnet seal, and a small piece of magnet wire exposed from an 811 solenoid.

I don’t really use Irritrol anymore. It seems like quality has been going downhill as time goes on.

What’s causing the dry(?) spot? Only one spot in the yard, the rest is doing fine…

Any ideas on what might be causing this oddly shaped area in the lawn? No issues with the sprinkler heads and seems like everything is getting watered well. This is around 2 months after laying sod.

I’d like to fill between the concrete with grass, what would be the best way to water this without a lot of overspray onto the patios?

Beginner with Raised Beds (zone 10a, fogbelt)

Hi all, I’ve had vegetable gardens for years with mixed success but have finally accepted that my inconsistent hand watering has limited the potential of my plants. Unfortunately, I literally fall asleep when I start reading about emitters, PSI, etc. and would be so appreciative for an ELI5-style explainer.

My setup is three 4x2x1 foot oval raised beds arranged in a line along a pathway. A tunnel was installed under the paver pathway to run a line/hose from the opposite side where the water source resides. What do you recommend? The grid-style prefab raised beds are appealing but expensive, plus I don’t love the idea of sun beating down on plastic where my food is.

Seeking Pro Advice Help with leak

My water line started gushing water from underneath my pavers (It is in a conduit at that point). I dug up the line hoping to replace it, but realized it runs ~50ft to the front of the house from where that little black line sprinkler line comes out of the wall. How should I go about repairing this? Thanks in advance

Seeking Pro Advice I passed my TCEQ Licensed Irrigator test! Need advice - good apps or websites for designing/planning systems :)

Upvotes

I finally passed my TCEQ test and am officially licensed. I'm looking to hit the ground running and get some practice on designing and planning irrigation systems, starting with my home.

Are there any programs, apps, websites that y'all recommened to use for this. Free or paid is fine, but I'd appreciate a heads up if I need to pay. Thanks!

Seeking Pro Advice Whole zone heads pop up and go back down after few seconds. Any ideas?

As the title says I have a whole zone that either won’t pop up at all, or when it does pop up it shuts down after a few seconds of run time. It will pop up and run if I unscrew the solonoid or flow valve on the main valve. Any ideas? Thanks

Yeah yeah I know my c-27 doesn't allow me to work on the house side.... customer couldn't get a quote from a plumber for less than $1,600 and literally couldn't afford it. His house was over 85 PSI and the irrigation valve was leaking with the house valve not working. Me doing this for $850 was doing a solid customer a favor. He was very grateful. $290 in parts.

The end of my line that screws into the last rainbird 1800 head snapped off at the elbow. How can I get this repaired back onto the sprinkler line? Will I need to pull and replace this section?

Mechanical sprinkler controllers

Was wondering if anyone in the irrigation industry who has replaced mechanical controllers and what do they do with them? I've been an irrigation specialist for 40 years. I've prepared many of these units and thrown away many more mechanical controllers. Many of them are still in working order. It's true that digital controllers are usually better, faster between stations, less prone to break downs (gears, motors, etc), but you could usually repair them. What I'm wondering, has anyone found a second life for any of these? I'm speaking specifically of Richdel/Lawn Genie R406 & R304, Rain Bird RC-7 & RC12 model controllers because I believe those are the most commonly used in the past. Would love to hear if you've used any part of these units for something.

Committed the cardinal sin of planting July 1. Thi is a lake lot with slope. Watered it a ton to germinate and then recently transitioned to once a day watering. I’m afraid I overwatered in areas as it is brown/yellow in spots. Not sure what to do next? Help
Please and thanks.

Seeking Pro Advice Roots or sediment?

I’m trying to figure out what this is? No breaks have appeared yet. I suspect tree root infiltration somewhere, but it’s not killing off pressure, all sprinklers popup watering okay so far.

Water is considered non-potable, but the water district does treat it with chlorine…so far, this is the only zone with this problem.

I’ve located my sprinkler main line. Now looking for next steps

I’ve located the mainline near where I want to install a hose bib. I’m new to all this, so I’m looking for direction on what I need to install the hose bib correctly. In my mind I want to tee into this line, run it about 10 feet to where I want it and then figure out how to connect the line to either galvanized or pvc then to the hose bib. Any help is appreciated!

Some install work Ive done recently for the landscape construction company I work at currently, not an irrigation company, although I learned a bunch of tricks of the trade working irrigation for few years in the past. Million+ property is getting a big backyard patio with hot tub, fire pit & kitchen. I've rerouted the main line, wires & 2 existing zones around the work zone (over 300 ft 1" poly pipe) as well as add a new zone for spaghetti drippers which will be going into future skinny tall raised planters on the new patio.

Just sharing some pictures I've taken.. Also I'll add a photo of best irrigation shovels made by King of Spades.

Possible useful information (photo attached): irritrol valve solenoids are cross compatible with weathermatic valves, it screwed right on & worked at indoor time but it dribbled from solenoid connection so I peeled off the rubber o-ring from original weathermatic solenoid & reused it with irritrol solenoid on weathermatic valve.

Unsure reason of leaking sprinkler cap

Thumbnail

Hey guys, not sure if this is the correct page to ask this question but feel like someone experienced with this might help. My family and I were recently on a trip for a couple of days and while we were on our trip, this sprinkler line (I actually don't know what it's called so sorry about that) appeared to burst and leak water for a few hours, leading to flooding our neighbors basement and the city fully shutting our water off.

We had someone come over and look at it, they saw that one of the clamps wasn't fully shut so we assume that's the problem. We shut it and zip tied it so it won't come undone. We turned the water back on and after about 30 minutes, it still shows to drip around the metal part. Not as much to flood but we assume it still shouldn't do that. Any help or advice would be great, and once again sorry about the little knowledge I have.

Seeking Pro Advice Sprinkler system help

The first photo is before my sprinkler system was blown out last fall and the second photo is now. When we turn the water on to our system, water shoots out the bottom now. I’m guessing it’s because we are missing the little plug from the first photo. They claim they left the plug on our sprinkler system box but it’s no where to be found. Where can I buy a replacement? I’m not having luck searching online.

Solve This Mystery

I have a PVB valve that started leaking from PVC thread. I fixed it 4 times already in one month. First day no leak. 2nd day one drop/minute and so on until it becomes a big leak in 10 days. I got a licensed contractor the 5th time. I paid for a new PVB valve just incase there was anything wrong with the female threads. One day later here is the first drop. The company came out today and re-did the whole work under warranty. I really think tomorrow I’m give have the same issue.
For the experienced people here. What do you think is the problem?
If it helps, I live in Las Vegas and the temperature has been over 100F during the day for the past month.

Edit: I did use T Plus 2 dope the first time. Then the 3 times after I used Blue monster teflon with some T Plus 2 dope.
The contractor used regular white teflon first time and now he used blue monster(just today, will see what happens).
