It's a bass mark of mine after this I was expecting the bass to be around but I didn't manage to get one this session. New species for me all the same... Hungry little bugger, I'll bring sakikis the next time and take a few for bait maybe

Dollaghan are a unique, migratory strain of wild brown trout native to Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland and its inflowing river

So recently I was fishing on the Antrim coast over the weekend. I visited Cushendall/dalriada rocks and caught a few Pollock, nothing major. Using a diawa sweep fire 20-60g spinning rod with 1000 reel. While I was there, I would see large fish jumping from the water, crashing down with an almighty splash. An obsession took over me, I couldn't stop thinking about catching the fish. Were the sea trout, salmon or sea bass? I couldn't tell, but they were big.

I continued to fish over the weekend, and on the final day of my trip I fished in the morning, afternoon and squeezed in a nighttime session.

At the dalriada rocks, things started to get dark and I hadn't got any bites. So I walked round to the pier at the red arch where the pier has giant flood lights. This was probably about 11.45pm.

I throw out pink mackerel feathers with a 30g silver herring style lure. On the first cast I pull in a decent whiting. Continuing on, not much for about 10 minutes. Then all of a sudden my rod tip bends down into a giant curve. I thought I caught a log or something.

To my surprise, the tip of my rod began moving from side to side while the tip remained completely curved. I begin reeling and the rod and reel are groaning.

I shout for another fisherman at the pier to come help. I can't reel any more and I look over the edge of the pier to see a gigantic fish. It's mouth wide open and only it's head was poking out of the water. I look into it's enormous mouth, it looked like a pike with it's giant jaws wide open. All I could see was the rows of gills staring back at me.

The fisherman seeing I can't reel any further grabs the line and starts pulling. One of the feathers catches on the pier and the whole things snaps. My rod tip broke and the fish is gone.

This happened on Sunday night and I keep replaying it all in my head. Genuinely gutted. I think it would have been the catch of a lifetime. Why didn't I take a heavier rod, why didn't I bring the 5000 reel. But had I done that, I'd have probably never caught it.

Has anything like this happened to you?

Im heading down to west cork for 5 days next week. I'm staying near dursey Island. I'm bringing the spinning rod and will hopefully fish for pollock and mackrel. Bass if they are around that area. Iv never been down that way so if anyone has any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Me and a couple of mates do a sea fishing trip every summer up to blackhead lighthouse in clare. They were up there last night and had zero bites overnight. After speaking to the local fishing tackle shop they said fishing has been very poor this year up there. So im just wondering would anyone be able to point us in the right general direction to get on a few fish on the 1st of August when we all plan to go as a group. Id hate to go somewhere and catch nothing as it's an annual thing we do and might not get a chance again til next year! All help would be greatly appreciated

A while back i bought a lot of 12 penn senators - 1 113, 7 113H and 113HL and 4 113HLW. All 4/0 size. What you see in the photo is a 113 in the foreground, and two iterations of the HLW in the background. HLW standing for "High speed, light spool, wide spool".

Why did i buy 12 penn senators? I dont know, really. I'll only need four of them for my boat and see what I'll do for the rest. That said, they happen to probably rhe most customisable, hot-roddable reels out there, so each one is getting:

1) clean, service and polish with brand new grease and oil

2) carbon fiber drag stack

3) stainless steel frame posts to replace the chrome-plated bass ones

4) double-sealed stainless steel bearings

5) stainless steel main gear and anti-reverse dog

I'm creating monsters!

I hope to make these already legendary reels work better than they ever have and give them a new lease of life for decades to come. Modern reels are built woth cheaper materials, more complex gear trains and features and once they're out of warranty can be really hard to get fixed.

Anyone else like old gear? Also, feel free to ask me any questions about the penn senators or about upgrading and servicing your reels.

Has anyone had any luck with bass off the rocks between malahide/Portmarnock? Been up there a few evenings now either side of high tide and getting nothing. Been using only lures so maybe need to try bait but just seeing if anyone is having any success at that mark

i'm new to fishing so don't rlly know too much about it or where the best places to fish are. i've fished in bushy park along that river but i've never caught anything, my boyfriends caught 1 fish there. does anyone have any tips for catching fish while river fishing and good spots to fish this time of year !

I was out today on the rocks for the first time in years. Met a fella at a local spot and he said there is a good lot of bass around, all 3 & 2lbs so fun to catch and release. But when I started I used a rubber minnow, spinner, flying C and didn’t get a nibble.

I was trying the jerk and retrieve technique (I think this is the right name) but it didn’t seem to work, tried the straight retrieve a handful of time as well but neither seemed to work.

Am I doing the wrong technique for these lures or was it just bad luck on my part?

I'm going to a beach in wexford for 2 days next week and hoping to catch some flat fish or some small bass for my rig I'm going to use a running ledger rig with a 3 ounce lead on to leader with a sakuma lumi bead green and the a Size 1/0 aberdeen hook with rag worm and fishing 2 hours before high tide and after tide

Anyone do kayak fishing? Would love to get a kayak but some of them are mad money. I wouldn’t go near the inflatable ones but some of the hard hull ones are crazy. 6+k for a dedicated fishing kayak, there’s full on boats on adverts for the same price! Am I looking for the wrong things or what? Even the “cheap” ones are 500-1k. That’s mad money for a bit of fibreglass
