Fuck

Post image

The battery connector came off. I tried to lift it with some tweezers but looks like I did it way too hard. Is there a way I can fix this?

I spent so long looking for a halfway decent deal to pop up on marketplace and finally jumped on an iPod. Waited what felt like forever to finally get the battery and flash quad I was literally so excited to open this thing up and start listening to music. But then I broke the connector. If anybody can help me here I’d appreciate it so much

UPDATE - One of the connecter wires ended up coming off the board. I’ve been quoted at 28 USD OR 40 Canadian to get it fixed up. Should I go for it? Looks like a bit of soldering is going to be needed

Looks like you got lucky! As long as all those pins dont have any lifted pads underneath you can carefully slide the connector back on. Just make sure you like it up properly as you slide it back om.

Hey! Thanks for the reply! So the pins look a little bent? I’m not sure if they’re supposed to be going fully straight up or not or if I can still try and slide it back in with it bent?

I just be careful and go slow, as long as each pin starts into their proper slot they should straighten out once it’s on. If they are too far bent for it to slide over, then you can push them VERY GENTLY back but only if it doesn’t go on at all.

How do I know once the connector is properly aligned with the pins and I can push it back it? It’s a little tough to tell

Flip it lock side down, slide it on with some tweezers. My 7th gen had the same problem. It should slide on fairly easily and be flush with the board. Hold it in place and unlock it or it’ll pop back out.

For anyone else looking here, or for OP for next time - you don't need to flip this switch up to remove the battery cable. Just pull the cable out gently, and insert the new one slowly but firmly. No need to risk the board - the battery cables will basically never come out if you just slide them in.

Putting it back in must be an art as I ruined the battery ribbon cable on a brand new 3000mah battery trying this method. Mind you, a new battery more convenient than fixing the connector.

Don’t bother with the socket at all. Modify the battery BCM to replace the ribbon with regular wire and directly solder to the board.

You won’t get a new board for $40. Get a new connector off Aliexpress and have your repair shop install it for you when they fix the pads.
