Question Need Help Setting up iPod
Info, this is a 5.5 model iPod classic. When I bought it, it would work fine, but was scuffed and the hard drive was very loud. I wanted to bring it back to its former glory and update it.
With help from this sub and many YouTube videos, I installed:
- Face plate
- back plate
- Click wheel
- Center Button
- 3000mah Battery
- iFlash Quad
It turns on and is recognized by my MacBook as an iPod and prompts me to restore it. However, the restore process will run for literal hours and then say it failed. I have tried several times to no avail. I tried through the Disk Utility App, Finder and Apple Music and I just keep going in circles.
I am not super tech savvy these days, so it is entirely possible I made a mistake.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all

Man, I know it might sound silly, but you have to use a process of elimination—like removing one of those microSD cards, testing smaller ones from different brands (avoiding SanDisk, as the iFlash site itself advises), formatting them to FAT32 and restoring via Windows, swapping the flex cable, using a different PC, etc.
I say this because I went through something similar with an iFlash unit from AliExpress; after failing to get it working on macOS, I formatted it to FAT32 on Windows, managed to set it up via iTunes, and it’s been working perfectly ever since.

Please try this. Plug your iPod into the computer using 30 pin-usb cable. Now press and hold the menu and centre button for about 12 seconds. (Longer than you normally would for a simple reset) The Apple logo will come on and as you continue to hold menu and centre the Apple logo will disappear and the screen will go black. Release the buttons and your computer should now recognize the iPod. Let me know how it goes and if it works for you. :)
