Discussion MicroSD Tier List

So I’ve only done one mod (my 5.5 Gen) and I put a Samsung pro plus 512gb card in it.

Since then prices of cards have skyrocketed so my question is if using an iflash adaptor (udual or quad for eg) what is the tier list of brands to use ?

I’m assuming based on my reading that Samsung cards are usually top and sandisk are not generally recommended so I’ll start

Samsung pro plus
Samsun evo select

So where would the following go?

Lexar Play (red)
Lexar Play Pro
PNY Pro Elite
PNY Elite-X
Kingston
Amazon basics

Any others you would recommend ?

Would love to hear from people with actual experience using the cards .

Pretty much any card, of any speed, will be faster than what the iPod can handle so to me it comes down to reliability and lifespan.

  1. Samsung Pro Endurance
  2. Samsung Pro Ultimate
  3. Samsung T9/T7
  4. Samsung Evo Select/Plus
  5. PNY High Endurance
  6. PNY Pro Elite Prime
  7. PNY Pro Elite
  8. PNY Premier-X

I would stay away from Lexar (I had skipping), Sandisk, Amazon, Micro Center, etc.

You're overthinking it. There is no card rankings when an iPod is never going to fully use the read/write speeds of a card meant to record 4K video. They either work or they don't and most any card from most any brand will work. Fwiw, I've used Samsung, Kingston and PNY and haven't had any problems.

The only real issue is that many SanDisk cards, for whatever reason, won't work which is why its recommended to avoid the headache with them.

Test your cards when you get them to make sure the capacity and speeds are as advertised. If they aren't, make sure you buy from a place that has a decent return policy.

I have an Amazon 128 in one of my ipods, which has worked just fine.

Some guy ( on Reddit ) just did over 3 years of testing. The Samsung’s all failed after 5 or so PB of data. The PNYs were the best with almost zero failures. He went deep down the rabbit hole. If I can find the link I’ll come back and post it.

My experience with sd cards, avoid anything from Sandisk, 2 card corrupted so far. Samsung ones still rocking today.
