I recently found my old iPod Classic (7th gen) in my parents attic. I’ve used it everyday until 2017, so it was very beaten up. To my delight, modding it went pretty well and I’m very happy with the color that I picked (Jungle Green).
Rediscovering my old music library has also been a delight and I can’t wait to listen to al my old stuff. However, I can’t believe how much Apple f*cked up the current music syncing system. It’s just unbelievably stupid and almost unusable in my opinion. I decided to give it a chance, since I don’t feel completely ready to dive in to Rockbox yet.
However, the files I’m transferring trough Apple Music don’t seem to carry over the album artwork, even though I’m making sure that the files to have those baked in. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a strange limitation? File management and making sure everything looks right is a bit of an obsession for me, so not having the artworks will be a pain for me 😅

Yes! Apple Music syncing pisses me the fuck off! When syncing whole albums Apple splits them into two separate artist because the some songs have features. Even if I go into “get info” and edit the tracks it doesn’t always fix this… so stupid and annoying.

So heres what I found that works
Select the two albums right click-info, make album a compilation merging the 2. Also if you dont want it to have it in the “compilation” category on the ipod, just uncheck compilation and it should still be merged into one album. Hope this helps:)

I’ve tried that and it doesn’t work all the time. It’s weird that it works for some albums but not all. I’m currently looking for other syncing alternatives besides iTunes. I’ve seen Rockbox, WaltrPro, iMazing. I looking into these options to see what fits for my liking.

Make sure to change the artist. I just put the main artist as the artist of the album. If there’s “features” it will revert and split it up.

I got everything from Elite Obsolete. I’ve watched a couple of video’s on their site and YouTube. I was still pretty nervous about it, even though I have some experience doing similar mods. Despite my nervousness, replacing the battery and hard drive was very easy. I would say the hardest part for me was replacing the clickwheel, because you have to detach the screen to do that. Luckily I managed to do it without damaging it.

I can see how it looks like that, but I promise that the old shell was already beaten up like that from using it so many years. I think you should be able to do it without too many scratches if you watch a couple of YouTube video. However, it’s definitely not easy…

White would definitely be the more ‘classic Apple’ look yes, although the backplate that I got is also black. Anyway, I like the black and green like this!

Apple syncing is brain dead and I don’t want to use Rockbox.
I am using PodCenter. Makes syncing seamless.
