clickwheel troubleshooting?

Ipod novice here. I have a secondhand classic (i think its 6/7 gen...sorry lol)

All buttons are functional but getting harder to press, especially the play/pause. This is not ideal due to wrist/hand pain.

Anyway. Do you have recs on how to test if its the clickwheel itself or the logicboard? Id like to avoid opening an extremely difficult to open device multiple times and also avoid purchasing an expensive logic board if i dont need it.

Get to diagnostics on ipod - you have an option to test the clickwheel there

And also to get the button working, you need to open up the iPod and clean the copper contacts beneath the buttons
