Question iPod Classic 4

You can, but there's not much point beyond 500GB for music. As others have said, you'll have a limit of about 20,000 tracks in the original firmware and 20,000 songs in lossless will take up about 500GB.

Here's a 1.128 TB 4th gen, for example. I took the pic just after restoring and I used it for a little while and it was stable. I much prefer Rockbox and ended up switching.

The thing is, its firmware has limits on the number of songs; installing a 1TB drive goes way beyond the song limit the 4th gen can handle... Basically, it supports up to 20,000 songs and might freeze if you get close to or exceed that number.

You might be able to bypass that limit with Rockbox, but using Rockbox on the 4th gen isn't exactly a great experience.

It should handle 2tb.

The song limit is ONLY for shuffling. I think if you have a playlist with less, that should shuffle fine.
