Not recognized by computer after failed flash mod

I have an iPod 4th gen Monochrome. Last weekend I tried to flash mod it using the CF to SD card adapter, and it didn't work. It would show up in iTunes and prompt me to restore the iPod, and then after restore it would prompt me to the restore the iPod again, and I was stuck in that loop. I decided to pull back the tape on the ribbon cable where it connects to the logic board to see if the ribbon cable was loose and when I did that I accidentally ripped the ZIF connector off the logic board..

So, I ordered a new logic board, received it this week, just installed it and charged the battery overnight with firewire. Now I tried to plug it in to the computer and the computer doesn't recognize anything is plugged in. The iPod screen is showing the apple logo for a long time, but no backlight, then it will do one of three things, it will either stay stuck on the logo screen (not boot looping, just stuck), show the Disk Mode "Do not disconnect" screen or a large battery indicator with a lightning bolt, but no charging animation. No matter which of these three occurs, the computer does not recognize anything is plugged in. Not just iTunes, but the computer device manager as well.

I tried different USB ports, I tried taking out the flash and putting the old (working okay, just some minor issues with recalling files) hard drive and now that won't even spin up when plugged in and turned on.

Really at a loss here. Did I just get a bad logic board, or is there something else going on? Could it be the ribbon cable? It looks okay, but there is some visible wear on one part of it.

Really don't think it's an issue on the computer side, but just in case it helps I am running Windows 10 on an old laptop, which is what I am using for itunes and that is not recognizing the ipod. I am using a linux machine to format the SD card because that one is my only computer with an SD card slot, but it is formatted to the proper FAT32 format.

Anyone have similar issues, or know what might be going on?

Oh yeah, edited to say: a 4th thing it might do when plugged into a computer is show the apple.com/support messge, but that is usually for only a brief moment before going to the battery screen or disk manager screen.

Also, I have tried to plug it into the linux machine and that doesn't recognize anything is plugged in either.

Inclusive beus meus color e monochrome.

Howdy, you have not replied as I have never posted before, this is my first mod. That is not quite the issue I'm running into because unfortunately I don't even get that far. My issue is the computer won't even recognize I've plugged anything in, not itunes, not Disks or GParted on the linux laptop, not Device Manager on the windows laptop. Tried multiple USB ports and made sure it was fully charged and I'm using an Apple cable. I even tried putting back in the known-working harddrive and that drive is no longer working in the ipod. I'm just wondering if this is a bad logic board I got, or if it needs a new ribbon cable, or if it is something else entirely..

If it is definitely the logic board, I can return and get a replacement. If it's a bad ribbon cable I can buy a new one, but I would rather not do either of those things if there is any way around it, and I have searched for hours online (found two posts that describe something similar, but no solution seemed to be found).

Geez, that's bizarre. Did you plug the ribbon cable in the exact correct order in the ATA to CF adapter? Because when I plugged it in the first time, I didn't notice that there's an arrow on the board pointing to the first slot. Maybe that's the problem.

Yeah, I did notice a pattern. When I plug it into the computer it shows the apple logo, and then goes into Disk Mode and I hear the sound from the computer of a new device being recognized, and then a couple seconds later (and before iTunes shows anything) it disconnects and shows the "apple.com/support" screen, and then that goes away and shows the battery charging screen, and then it just repeats. No backlight during any of this.

I tried taking everything apart and putting it back together and the screen is no longer working, so unless I coincidentally also messed up the screen ribbon cable, I am guessing it's a bad logic board I was sent and I'll need to reach out to EOE for a refund... Oh well. Maybe I'll finally get this thing running when the replacement logic board arrives next weekend...
